"Who is Donny" ... oh EB, I love you on social media.

And it says a lot the last few pages are nothing but wishful casting and complaints about AARP MAGA Chance. LOL. This show is in trouble. Who on earth thought hiring Josh Griffith for the third time would be a smart move? And why has Chelsea become the star of the show again? Lord.

Chelsea is the new Adam. everything going on with Chelsea is snoozeworthy.  I hope someday we get a scene where Lauren walks up to her and smacks her for what she did, stealing revenue from Fenmores. I guess we'll be waiting until the next HW comes in and bounces her out on her azz.

Is this show still not giving Lauren things to do?? Granted the actress is no Meryl Streep but with very good writing, she's certainly capable of fronting a reasonably entertaining storyline, or at least being a part of one.

It's a given that JG would disappoint (although I thought he would at least give viewers a grace period of a decent storyline, or at least 3/4 of a decent storyline like last time around) but what has happened to the casting department for this show?  Have they given up trying?

Y&R is the worst that it has ever been right now. The stories are lifeless. The show is a trainwreck and a mess. I just saw the latest ratings and Y&R is number 3 in a couple of the demos, which is pathetic.
I DO love how Eric dragged that moron who plays Chance. Well deserved and well played by Eric.

At one time both SC and GT were part of the Procter & Gamble/PGP soaps universe.  With that NYC backdrop...man, I miss NYC soaps! I mean, when those soaps were good.  Okay, I miss when soaps were good. Period.  This picture, for some reason, is making me nostalgic for that time.

If Y&R had any sense, instead of bringing "Trailer Park Chance" on, they would've tried to lure Michael Graziadei on for a brief story arc.  I mean with MS back on the show, you'd think they'd want, at least a mini-reunion.  And he and CG had really great on-screen chemistry the last time he was there.  Seems like a no-brainer.

Even Paul, why don't they try to bring on his daughter Heather for a brief story arc?  Vail Bloom is sober these days, right?

Anything to bring the show some life, because from what I've been reading, the show's stories are on life-support right now.

With Ashley gone, it makes since to me that Lauren would be used more as the token female vet that has ties to most of the canvas and has the potential for a business storyline.  Plus with them using Tracy Abott more, there is natural history and a place for some feisty scenes.  Really a waste.

I didn't even expect anything good from him. I was down on his re-hiring from the start. I'd take a garden gnome head writing over him.

And agreed on the casting department. Who the hell was calling for AARP Chance? They should have just brought back Jeff Branson's ass and put him back with La Staff and called it a day.

Chance and Abby are boring and DOA before they even start. It's getting ridiculous at this point how she has a new love of her life every year.

Wasn't that Phyllis who had the doppelganger?

I don't expect anything good from any writer associated with this show anymore.  I expect more aspiring writers to prefer to do a websoap over Y&R at this point.  Too many restrictions, too much network chicanery.  I was discussing with @DRW50in another thread the fact that CBS truly is a cesspool. They've got yet another scandal going on at that network and I bet nobody's surprised.

CBS really is a cesspool.

I agree that the network soaps are way to restrictive on writers. We've seen so much talent just flee. We've also heard for years how many folks have 0 interest in head writing, one of the reasons we keep recycling the same hacks. You could see the care involved with the Prospect Park reboots of AMC and OLTL based on who was behind the scenes.

I'd love them to simply move online and be given a bit more freedom. But if they're still under the network umbrella, wouldn't interference still exist? Just way too many cooks in the kitchen with soaps, honestly.

LOL!  No, Lauren's had a doppelganger, too!  And Emily (Patty's psychiatrist, whom Patty underwent plastic surgery to look like)!  And Jack!

At this rate, I expect we'll be introduced to Victor's lookalike in 2020!

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
