And Billy wasn't around post-Mamie - he was in boarding school - an integral part of Billy/Jill relationship. For writers who supposedly know Y&R, they are making many unforced mistakes since the first episode. Maybe they trying to write the Barbers out. Because Mrs. Martinez having fake memories of something she wasn't present for when the Abbots was young children. Edited December 24, 20169 yr by MoTheGreat
December 24, 20169 yr Member Was Mrs. Martinez was around when Billy came back from Boarding School? I don't remember her being there.
December 24, 20169 yr Member Mrs Martinez was definitely there when David Tom's Billy was around but she was mainly offscreen. 2 hours ago, Fevuh said: I have trouble remembering but Drucilla and Olivia were -- were they Mamie's daughters or were they nieces? Liv & Dru are Mamie's nieces. Their parents (who are both still alive) are Walter & Lillie Belle.
December 24, 20169 yr Member Yes. Actress Norma Donaldson who played Lillie Belle passed away in 94 (She was previously on GH as Simone's mother ) . Robin Braxton was the last to appear in 94.

December 24, 20169 yr Member I think they meant trying to write the family out of Y&R's history. I would hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
December 24, 20169 yr Member Could Mrs. Martinez have been the cook when Mamie was the head of the household help?
December 24, 20169 yr Member I don't know why, but it's always bothered me that they never cared to come up with a first name for Mrs. Martinez.....I guess because she's basically been played by different actresses on and off for over 20 years, and I know she was never suppose to be as close with the Abbotts as Mamie was, but now I feel the longevity of her working in that household would be enough to be granted a first name....i guess maybe if the show was ever interested in creating a Hispanic family, which unfortunately was dropped too soon with Estella and Rafe.

Now that they have been focusing on family, Margarita Franco started appearing. I hope they bring in a family member for the younger set. At least it would give a little variety to the show. Yes! This show has become too inbred. They need an outsider. Maybe someone for Abby or Summer.
December 25, 20169 yr Member Let me understand this. Ms. Martinez has a line or two about watching the kids grow up, the writers are angling to wipe the Barbers off the canvas? Really? I don't get it.

Other than Lily, there are no Barbers on the canvas. I imagine the point being made was wondering if these retcon memories mean that the character of Mamie is now forgotten, similar to how characters like Miguel are long forgotten by the show.
December 25, 20169 yr Member Yeah, I still don't get it. A couple throw away lines are not the beginnings of an effort to remove the Barbers from the shows history, regardless if Lily is the only blood of theirs left. Edited December 25, 20169 yr by GMac
