Y&R: New Head Writer

The thing that makes this sad to me is seeing yet another show just tossed into the hands of one of the same old, same old names. The fact that TPTB feel comfortable throwing the show into the recycling bin tells me that there's no real interest in improving any of this. It's more about trying something half-assed for Y&R until they can get another winner a la The Talk.

My apologies if I'm giving anyone the impression that I got screwed so I want them to get screwed as well. That is not the case at all. I was specifically targeting Q with my question as well as that other person. Why is one being heralded at the man who saved GH and revitalized it but the other is the death knell to YR while being accused of the very same things that moRon is getting away with daily?

I've been watching soaps since I was 13, starting with OLTL, and I cannot believe the trash that is accepted today.

That said, I feel for YR fans if Pratt is that bad. I certainly understand your pain!

You've already gotten what I think is a fair answer from some of us on how and why Ron and Pratt are very different, in some of our opinions anyway.

I can critique Ron Carlivati for forever and a day and trash the worst of his show, but the worst of his show is bad in a completely different way from what Chuck Pratt does. I can find one bad writer worse than another bad (or deeply, deeply flawed) writer. Just because some people may think Pratt is even worse doesn't mean they are giving anyone else a pass. It just means they have a different experience from you.

Oh I agree 100%

Pratt and Guza and JFP all are not fans of the genre they work in. Carlivati clearly is.

Guza, Pratt, Phelps. All of them worked for Monty and saw what charismatic actors and a creative vision can do for a daytime show. But none of them have her instincts. And they all have such disdain for their audience.

From what I've read Alden said she doesn't have a desire to be head writer. I dunno if that's true, but that's what Jamey Giddens was saying. He said she said it in an interview

Wow we agree :o

LOL

Thank Christ there seriously is. I only have a few active posters on ignore, but every time I make the mistake of clicking "read this post anyway" I remember why.

As for Pratt, I'll give him a chance like I do every new writer. Maybe he's learned some lessons along the way.

It has nothing to do with the topic. Talk about things Jean did wrong or anything that has to do with y and r. Pratts bad history as he destroyed amc is up for grabs but GH talk shouldn't be allowed in a thread that based solely on y and r head writer talk. Talk anything that relates to that how bad Pratt is or people u think should be head writers or vice versa. Again the same stupid I hate GH agenda gets brought into a post it doesn't need to be in

    • Thanks for that. It was great to see her in an interview. She's very likable. Although it was somewhat confusing. What new soap is she talking about going on audition for in 1973. Was it The Young and the Restless? The editing around that part was weird and choppy. I felt like there was a chunk missing or something. And I'm not sure why she was saying she got colorectal cancer from HPV and said it's because she never got the HPV vaccine but then said she's never had anal sex. I'm not a doctor but that didn't seem to make any medical sense. I don't know. Maybe I'm tired. It just seemed like some of this interview didn't make sense.
    • If it helps any, the last script cover from the Elman papers that I have is from episode #3,736 airdate November 15, 1977. Writers are the Hollands with Frank Salisbury.
    • B&B really does look incredible. The lighting and the polished sets have made a significant difference how visually appealing the show is now.
    • I found the problem with the Labine era was that the show lost some humour when the Labines came on and it could be dull. They also didn't seem to understand some of the characters. As others have said, it looks fantastic in comparison to the next regime but I just remember boredom being the primary response.
    • Something I didn't realize: Frank Ashmore, who played Monica's investigator Corrigan in 1981, was also Victor, the third guy in the cockpit, in Airplane!
    • Thanks, maybe I will skim through those episodes.  I have previously binged late 1985 through early 1987; April-June, August 1992 (I skipped Carlo Hesser murder trial), Jan-March 1995 and I began watching in 2006. I just struggle to stay consistent with routines especially binging routines haha
    • I could've sworn we went over the Bobbie thing a while ago, and saw her introduced to Rick and Lesley as "Nurse Barbara" in very late '77? Or was that early '78? I know the clip is online. Jackie always credited Marland with creating her IIRC.
    • Thanks.  Loon Lake - very on the nose. With that "dad" outfit Bo looks even more like Cassie's father...
    • Luna parachutes herself into Llanview at the end of September 15th 1991.
    • That lengthy flashback does make me wonder if she threw out a lot, but I agree it may have been too easy an urban legend. Would these have been her very first episodes? I imagine you could feel the big difference when Bobbie arrived, alongside the Quartermaines filing in, the return of Heather, and Lesley/Rick/Monica/Alan heating up. It does remind me that there must have been some dud moments in the 60-minute format we just don't see because little of the period is available in full.  I wonder how much longer the Dantes lasted under Marland.  David Hamilton is so disgusting. I appreciate the show making him disgust as some shows when they have stories about older men or women manipulating teens aren't as honest.  I can't see this Rick being friends with him. Chris Robinson's Rick, on the other hand, I could believe.
