August 11, 201411 yr Member Heartbreaking. So talented. Both comedy and drama. Good Will Hunting, Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society... The Genie in Aladdin. First time I ever heard anyone talk of an Oscar for voice overs. Edited August 11, 201411 yr by cct
August 11, 201411 yr Member I am so heart broken and devastated right now. He's one of my favorite actors. The world is a little less funny right now. Edited August 11, 201411 yr by wingwalker
August 12, 201411 yr Member Many creative people have, if not a history of depression, some periods of emotional down times--often times, in order to connect with emotions, one must have access--emotions are very often quite close to the surface. Looking back now, I'm thinking of how often Robin Williams at times seemed like something of a geyser of emotion, mainly exuberance (sometimes overly so) but I often wondered what was on the other side of that seeming exuberance. He and Jim Carrey, in particular, often reminded me of the human equivalent of the Comedy/Tragedy mask, that Drama icon that I actually have on my desktop. It really is true that Drama incorporates both sides and obviously Robin's life incorporated both sides but the scales were tipped to one side, it's just sad how far that balance was tipped toward the Tragedy. He entertained a lot of people but behind closed doors, he was obviously suffering more than most who watched him in the public could ever know. I don't know what else to say. This is truly sad. What makes a person believe that they have nothing more to give in life, no more purpose? Edited August 12, 201411 yr by DramatistDreamer
August 12, 201411 yr Member Mrs. Doubtfire is one of my all-time favorites. But he has been in so many great films and has tackled many diverse roles, from the super silly to the psychologically disturbed. Very sad to hear.
August 12, 201411 yr Member How sad he had everything but couldn't see it. Such a talented guy and willing to do anything.
August 12, 201411 yr Member Mrs. Doubtfire is a movie I grew up with. RIP. Watching this makes me think how devastated Billy Crystal must be right now.
August 12, 201411 yr Member Ellen DeGenres @TheElIIenShow This just goes to show that money and fame don't always equal happiness. True happiness comes from the people you love, never forget that. RIP Robin! Mork and Mindy was my show! My favorite eppy was when Raquel Welch appeared. You will be missed, Robin
August 12, 201411 yr Member I just don't know what to say. I am absolutely shocked and stunned by this news. It is just so unreal to me. May God be with Mr. Williams' loved ones, esp. his young children, right now.
