April 14, 201115 yr Member But they've given us bullsh!t to watch. You can't feed a dog bullsh!t and then blame it when it doesn't want to eat it. The ratings for the soaps have declined since the moment that they aired and it has never been about quality. NO scripted program lasts forever, the audience gets bored eventually. Also, the daytime audience has dwindled due to social changes. It is unrealistic to expect all the soaps to last until the end of the earth. They were going to get cancelled eventually. April 14, 201115 yr Member I wonder if it would be possible to have Nathan Fillion come back as Joey for the end of the show?
April 14, 201115 yr Member ginatognoni terribly super sad day. I am grateful for the opportunity One life had given me over the years it is a piece of my heart- love you gt
April 14, 201115 yr Member ABC SID says the magazine isn't going anywhere.... There will no doubt be changes in 2012, after the second soap stops airing, but we ain't going anywhere. about 1 hour ago via TweetDeck Thank you ALL for your questions and concerns about the future of the magazine. Rest assured, we ain't goin' anywhere. about 1 hour ago via TweetDeck http://twitter.com/soapsindepthabc Not for nothing, but if we made a Which Soap Rag Will Fold First? thread, ABC:SID would probably be on the bottom rung. I predict, at the very least, they merge with CBS, include DAYS, call it SoapsInDepth, and it still folds before SOD and SOW. This must be like the movie groundhog day for Daniel Cosgrove by now. Watch him take over for Tom Degnan on OLTL after AMC stops taping. JPiss is probably wet just thinking of the possibility of reuniting Cosgrove and Conn(ombino) on another failed soap. Quite honestly, I'd like to see the character phased out altogether and Nathan Fillion comes back for the last month or so and competes with David for Dorian, ultimately winning the heart of Viki's nemesis. How fitting would it be for the show to end with the fans knowing Viki's going to be Dorian's mother-in-law, guaranteeing they'll be rivals for life, the one life they'll live.
April 14, 201115 yr Member WGA statement The WGAE is deeply disappointed by ABC's announcement that both All My Children and One Life to Live will cease production. These groundbreaking shows have provided entertainment and enlightenment to millions of viewers, and have provided good employment to dozens of talented, dedicated writers. We urge the company to reconsider. http://www.deadline.com/2011/04/wga-east-statement-on-cancellation-of-all-my-children-one-live-to-live/ AFTRA statement http://www.deadline.com/2011/04/aftra-statement-on-cancellation-of-all-my-children-one-live-to-live/ Today's announcement that two long-running AFTRA programs have been cancelled and will cease production in September ('All My Children') and January 2012 ('One Life to Live') represents a devastating loss for thousands of AFTRA members, union crew members and production staff in Los Angeles and New York. The AFTRA actors –- past and present –- of these two ground-breaking serial dramas have entertained generations of viewers around the globe for more than 40 years with stellar performances and dedication to their craft.“AFTRA representatives are communicating with affected members in both cities to ensure they are fully informed of their rights and benefits under the AFTRA Network Television Code. Additionally, AFTRA is in contact with ABC representatives to oversee as smooth a transition as possible for these performers. “It is no secret that serial dramas, once a prolific source of employment and benefits for television actors, have been challenged by the new economics of television. It is, therefore, critically important that AFTRA members stand united to strengthen existing contracts and to organize new increased work opportunities in new and evolving media industries.”
April 14, 201115 yr Member I really hope that we get the good RC in the last few months of OLTL and not "One Twink to Live" RC.
April 14, 201115 yr Member Nathan Fillion's twitter A moment of silence for a disappearing genre. OLTL & AMC, we'll miss your hard work and talent http://twitter.com/nathanfillion
April 14, 201115 yr Member JordiVilasuso Jordi Vilasuso 6 more months of really good show! This has been the best group of people that I've ever worked with. I am blessed to have been part of AMC!

NO scripted program lasts forever, the audience gets bored eventually. Also, the daytime audience has dwindled due to social changes. It is unrealistic to expect all the soaps to last until the end of the earth. They were going to get cancelled eventually. I think that if the soaps had also changed, more would still be on the air. Soaps were considered out of step before but adapted and survived. No one in charge of daytime has cared for years about changing with the times. Even this move away from soaps isn't a risk as much as a long list of cliche catchphrases that were dated ten years ago. Until someone willing to take a chance gets involved with daytime again, we will probably be watching reruns of reruns of reruns in daytime within the next 5-10 years.
April 14, 201115 yr Member I still can't get over how awful a name "The Chew" is for a show. Who the hell came up that? That's the best name they could come up with? Every time I see it I think of:
April 14, 201115 yr Member I know I'll get made fun of, but I actually shed a tear. It's the end of an era. Maybe soaps have fallen in the last few years, but 43 years is a lifetime. I grew up on these shows, and it makes me sad that future generations will never know. +1. When I started writing up my message to Kristen A. on Facebook. I cried. Like I said...I'm more upset about the actors/writers (the good ones...like RC...who is pissed about this too. And, watched OLTL before he started writing) than I am the soaps themselves. I'm totally adding that to the reasons I don't want kids too. I was raised with soaps. So was my mother. My grandmother...my great grandmother got her into soaps. She listened to GL when it was on radio in 1937. Like I didn't have enough reasons already. This one takes the cake...and then frosts it and sticks it up in the Martin Attic where nobody can get to that yummy cake and that's what Frons has done to us!
