Following his shocking appearance last month as Peter August on “General Hospital,” Wes Ramsey will appear as another of his villainous soap opera characters, this time as Owen Kent on “Days of our Lives,” a role he last played more than 16 years ago.
In an interview with TV Insider, Ramsey told the outlet how surreal it’s been to be back in daytime, playing the two roles, noting, “This is another glorious example of something coming up that is very unexpected.”
“Being asked to reprise a role that I played 16 years ago is something I’ve never done before,” continued Ramsey. “That’s the kind of thing that can happen in daytime, and it was absolutely a wonderful experience.”
“When I filmed there 10 months ago, I obviously had no idea that I would be asked to revisit a role that would happen to air weeks in advance of that reveal,” said Ramsey, referring to taping scenes at the “Days of our Lives” studio in Burbank and the tape-to-air scheduling difference between the two soaps. “It’s a great gift to be called back to do something you once did before because it means somewhere along the way, someone making creative decisions liked what you were doing enough to want to bring you back. It’s a compliment and something I don’t take for granted.”
In his return to Salem on Friday, February 27, we discover Owen is the one holding Stephanie (Abigail Klein) and Jeremy (Michael Roark) captive. “Owen is a man who desperately wants to love and be loved and is lonely,” teases Ramsey of his character. Meanwhile, for how the story unfolds, fans will have to just tune in to find out. Until then, Ramsey shares he enjoyed his time working with his new co-stars, including Robert Scott Wilson (Alexander Kiriakis).
“Abigail and I got along really well, and she’s wonderful, a real pro,” praised Ramsey. “We really let ourselves go there and had a ball. Robert Scott Wilson and I got to work together, too, and he’s a great guy and a wonderful actor. He and I really got to step up to the plate together and had so much fun.”
While this stint is expected to be short, Ramsey does look forward to another return appearance, should it arise, saying, “I do hope there’s room for some of this to perhaps be revisited somewhere down the road.”
