Controversy

Rauch has become a controversial figure among some soap fans.

* His production stints at One Life to Live and Guiding Light featured sci-fi plots such as cloning and time-travel.

* He has also had some conflicts with several of the actors on the shows he has produced. Ellen Holly, who played Carla on One Life to Live for nearly two decades, wrote in her autobiography "One Life" about how Rauch told Lillian Hayman, who played Holly's on-screen mother, Sadie, as she was walking to her car after a day's taping that she was fired and that she had just taped her last episode. Several other actors, such as Maeve Kinkead and Lisa Brown, have had strong personal or professional differences with Rauch.

* He fired three very popular actors from Another World in 1975: Virginia Dwyer (Mary Matthews), George Reinholt (Steve Frame), and Jacqueline Courtney (Alice Matthews Frame). The death of Mary Matthews was particularly shocking as she was the matriarch of the main family and her death occurred on Good Friday. Fans and critics were outraged and Courtney responded several years later to outrageous comments made by Rauch about herself and her former peers at AW.

Y&R was Masterpiece Theatre. Paul Rauch is late-stage Dynasty. With floodlamps.

I believe he made a very large contribution to the downfall of GL by making everyone and everything look and act as tacky as possible. During his reign I could count on turning to CBS and seeing nothing but orange, yellow, and Kim Zimmer trying to look hot. So I never turned to CBS.

    • I should say a number of people do enjoy the season 9 and 13 finales. I get the appeal of the 9 finale. I just do not like the storyline.
    • Neil Wade was Doug's son and ran the Wade bookstore, which lived on until 1980 when the Dobsons had it destroyed in a fire. Irna was still headwriter. She stayed until early 1970. He had been losing his eyesight for months in the story. He was killed off in mid 67. That lead to Penny quickly marrying Roy McGuire to gain custody of Jimmy, Roy and Sandy's son. That caused conflict in the Hughes family as Sandy was married to Bob. Doug was also killed off in 67. Irna loved to pile on the tragedies. Penny left in 68.

I really should because that would be fun, I just need to figure out how to do that on here haha. I see people doing it in the BtG threads all the time and always wondered how they do that without saving photos to their computer and then uploading them - that just seems like it would take a lot of time.
    • Most definitely; twenty-two, to me, is the perfect number. Oh God.

Shanice is a physical therapist? YES! This gets her more involved with other characters and since Bill will be her patient, she'll be down to Fairmont at his house and in the middle of the mess!   @Antoyne We'll be seeing more of her!
    • AGREE.  IzzyB stupid? Any examples spring to mind? It's been many long years back but I recall her being pretty astute about the men in her life, for example. She didn't take a lot of crap off of powerful men. Also it seemed to me she didn't suffer fools, at all. Now, Brady, sometimes he seems to be like the Scarecrow, no brain installed, other times he possesses smarts. But, honestly, he doesn't resemble anyone he's related to, IMO.
    • IMBD claims Nina Kramer and Rory Kramer are the same person - they/them identify as non-binary.
    • People often underestimate how popular and commercially successful MSW continues to be - even to this day. The initial DVD release sold well, and it would never have gotten the blue ray box set treatment if it wasn’t in demand. Many shows that people swear are popular never get that treatment (because they don’t sell well).
    • GH:  - Rory Kramer first listed as Director on June 10   It looks like he's a music video director, though he hasn't directed a video since 2020.
