  1. The Batgirl directors also worked on Marvel's Ms. Marvel Disney+ series, anyway, one of them posted Kevin Feige's email to them on their Instagram story. Class act.
  2. The funny thing is DC’s rare successes have been with their standalone films, their attempt to copy the MCU with the DCEU previously was half-baked and poorly executed. Some have said their open embrace of being a disconnected brand has hurt them though. General audiences may be confused if there are multiple people playing Batman in close proximity for example. While Marvel has developed a brand identity where many people will go see those movies without prior knowledge or care for a certain IP, just because of the Marvel name being attached. DC/WB hasn’t been able to cultivate a similar brand or strategy.
  3. Batgirl just got lost in the shuffle. David Zaslav, the CEO of the newly formed Warner Brothers Discovery, announced on the investors call that they’re basically throwing everything out of the window when it comes to DC films, and they’re going to try to copy the format and long-term planning Kevin Feige has established with Marvel Studios. He’s hired Alan Horn to consult and lead this vision. Horn, of course, worked with Disney/Bob Iger and Kevin Feige to build the MCU into what it is today. He was obviously at WB before where he helped green light Nolan’s Batman films, the Harry Potter franchise, and other things. Obviously, he wants to try to challenge Marvel’s dominance, but it’s also a reputation and brand problem. Kevin Feige has spent years building the Marvel brand into what it is, while DC has been careless and making terrible decisions for the same amount of time. They have a lot of catching up to do. Warner Bros. Discovery Teases 10-Year Plan For DC Films “There will be a team with a 10-year plan focusing just on DC. It's very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together, very effectively, with Kevin Feige at Disney," he added. "We think that we could build a long-term much stronger, sustainable growth business out of DC. And as part of that, we're going to focus on quality. We're not going to release any film before it's ready. We're not going to release a film to make a quarter. We're not going to release a film unless the focus is going to be, 'How do we make each of these films in general as good as possible?' But DC is something that we think we could make better and we're focused on it now. We have some great DC films coming up — Black Adam, Shazam, and Flash – and we're working on all of those. We're very excited about them."
  4. I really hope Corday and team are secretly planning the finale/ending of this show on the down low, so when NBC/Peacock cancels it with little notice, they're prepared to go out with some dignity. All soaps, please reference how Neighbours ended last week in Australia/the UK!
  5. I feel like I’m always going to go back and reference this finale. I’m not confident another long-running soap would be allowed to go out with similar dignity or care at this point.
  6. TSJ always had more sexual chemistry with men than any woman he was with.
  7. We should be eternally grateful we were spared that travesty.
  8. She's largely become an albums artist since '4' but I think this is her most singles and pop oriented album since I Am... Sasha Fierce (an album that hasn't aged well at all and is amongst her weakest work, IMO). Also appears to be a nod to the contributions of black performers (like Donna Summer) to the world of dance/house music, which is often overlooked by not just white audiences, but black audiences as well. The Neptunes wrote and produced said song and gave Beyonce and her record label permission to clear the sample. Honestly, I'm not quite sure what point Kelis is trying to make for a song she didn't produce or has any legal claim to. Sampling is also hardly a unique practice in urban/pop music. It kind of is what is if she doesn't have the legal grounds to prevent it.
  9. Margot Robbie is one of the very few soap alums I've seen that has never been shy of or tried to hide her soap past. I've seen her consistently bring Neighbours up in interviews for years, and how much she owes to that experience. She also sent all of the cast and crew a ton of champagne on their last day of filming... GOOD NEIGHBOUR I’m eternally grateful for Neighbours – it was perfect training for Hollywood, says Margot Robbie
  10. Susan's end monologue also had a great tribute to those fans in the UK who stuck by this show and kept it going for so many years - "Everyone deserves a place in the in the history of Ramsay Street, even those who watched us from afar. Together, we have been, the perfect blend." The show also made sure to give the UK fans a special shoutout on IG: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgnEpZhoJmI/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link I noticed both Home & Away and Corrie also posted fond farewell messages on social media: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgjbpzuv7Io/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet https://www.instagram.com/p/CgmrrRVM6V3/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
  11. Hats off to Kylie for wearing a very Charlene outfit and not letting the veneer of her subsequent pop goddess persona detract from that.
  12. Apparently, per her creators, Kamala was originally planned to be a mutant in the comics - but the politics of Marvel/Disney not owning the film rights to X-Men and their associated characters came into play and prevented that at the time. Ms. Marvel Co-creator Says Character Was Originally Planned as Mutant The show creators have also said the direction to make Kamala a mutant in the MCU came directly from Kevin Feige and they hadn’t originally written that in. It is fair to say Kevin Feige has a distaste for the Inhumans in his month. The very racist and misogynistic Ike Pearlmutter (former Marvel CEO) tried to use the Inhumans as an X-Men/mutant replacement for years because they couldn’t profit from those films as they sold the film rights to Fox in the 90’s. The fans noticed that sh!t right away too - but it never worked, the Inhumans comics never sold and the X-lines generally remained best sellers for them (despite horrible creators being put on them). Fantastic Four arguably got it worse when Marvel canceled that book completely at one point for similar reasons. They also stuck the Spider-Man lines with horrible creators and some of the worst stories of that time - but Spider-Man being seen as the “face” of the Marvel brand meant they couldn’t sideline him completely. Pearlmutter also forced Feige to put an Inhumans film on the MCU slate, which Feige hated. Things eventually got so bad that Feige went to then Disney CEO Bob Iger and threatened to quit if they didn’t remove Pearlmutter as his boss. The Inhumans project was then shifted to TV (and Pearlmutter’s influence was then relegated to Marvel’s pre Disney+ Marvel TV shows). Yes, Kamala will next appear in The Marvels alongside Carol and Monica Rambo. The first Captain Marvel movie was very divisive, so I wonder if this film being repositioned as 3-piece (as opposed to ‘Captain Marvel 2’) is intentional. Now that Kamala is also a mutant, I wonder if they’ll pull from Claremont’s Avengers Annual #10 and do a take on Rogue’s origin story, or at least tease it in a post credit scene.
  13. SJB played a very unique almost un-soaplike character in Carly. Not just the character herself, but the way it was often portrayed in a very visceral and often gritty way. Similar to the same way Judith Light had done as Karen Wolek decades before on OLTL (yes, she too was a recast, but who remembers anyone else playing that role?). LW doesn't have that quality, but she's playing whatever Carly is now.
  14. Well, this show was useful for something in the wider MCU - setting up the existence of the X-gene/mutant gene. Kamala Khan is an Inhuman in the comics, but is clearly being set-up as the first person to be called a "mutant" in the MCU 616 timeline. Granted, there's only like 5 people who have ever cared about the Inhumans, so outside of those people, I think most people are just happy the sacred timeline is building up to a wider expansion of mutants and the eventual MCU X-Men reboot.
  15. Himesh Patel earned an Emmy nomination for Station Eleven.
  16. Mona brought so much to an often underwritten role. She held her own with that entire Jackson family in the 90's. RIP.
  17. Jane was definitely Spinner's most mature and equal relationship (Paige dominated him and later used him for sex, and Darcy was a mess of a character who was no saint herself, but expected Spinner to be). They could have easily just reunited them when they decided to write him off instead of the Emma sh!t - and it's frustrating that they had the opportunity to do so and didn't. Even if Sean didn't come back for Emma, they could have written her out some other way.
  18. This was nice to see - Mishael Morgan acknowledged Victoria Rowell's post on her Emmy win via an IG story. https://www.instagram.com/stories/mishaelmorgan/2873279402345170025/
  19. I didn’t realize longtime makeup artist Patti Denney was retiring. Mishael Morgan thanked her in her Emmy speech and just posted this IG story. https://instagram.com/stories/mishaelmorgan/2872139947039744656?igshid=NmZiMzY2Mjc=
  20. I think you can celebrate someone's win, but also hold systematic injustice in the industry and genre accountable. The two aren't mutually exclusive and each deserves respective dialogue.
  21. I didn't see anyone criticizing her win? I think the critique was more so around how it took the dying days of the genre for the academy to finally award a woman of colour. That, and the way daytime continues to write for write for characters of colour and treat their respective actors. Mishael is a worthy winner, and some would say she is the last truly amazing "find" Y&R ever had. Her initial casting is definitely the most significant contribution of JFP's tenure at the show.
  22. If Rihanna hadn't stalled her music career, she likely would have been closer to or surpassed The Beatles by now.
  23. God, these records are so meaningless in the current chart era with these formulas in place.
  24. The repeal of Roe Vs. Wade is also going to cause years of litigation in states with those trigger laws, this will not be the last time the Supreme Court hears an abortion case. It's bleak right now with right-wing nutjobs in the majority, but I have to hope this issue will pop up again when there is a sensible majority on the court. It may be another 50 years, but the time will come.
