  1. I haven’t gotten to the funeral episode yet, but the scenes where Sonia told everyone in the Vic that Dot had died felt brutally real. Gillian, Letitia, Natalie, and Rudolph all seemed very cut up inside - but they all knew June for decades and were very close to her off-screen as well. The touches of Martin mentioning how close Dot was to everyone important in his life, and Sharon saying she knew Dot all her life were nice and didn’t feel tacked on either. I guess Dot’s greatest legacy was the impact she was able to have on other people’s children lives, the kind she was never able to have with her Nick. In the end, that’s what nurtured her as it did others.
  2. Christine was an often unsung member of FM, but totally essential to their success. The band just wasn’t the same when she wasn’t a part of it. RIP to her.
  3. I wonder what the business logistic are - did Freemantle sell the show to Amazon, or is Amazon paying Freemantle a licensing fee to produce it (similar to what Channel 5 and the BBC did previously)? Amazon acquired the entire library in this deal as well. Freevee is a free service, so the fact that will be its primary platform in the UK is also great, as that's the territory with the show's biggest following. Having it on Freevee in the US is a nice bonus.
  4. I thought it was a very moving movie and probably the best of the MCU’s Phase 4 efforts. Letitia Wright was amazing, but so were all the main players. It was an arduous task, but they managed to pay tribute to T’Challa/Chadwick, while also moving forward. The only real critique I had was the movie could have been 15 mins or so shorter, and Riri Williams (a character that has always sucked in the comics, but wasn’t as annoying here) felt shoehorned in. Ryan Coogler is an immensely talented director, and I hope the speculation that he’ll direct Secret Wars is true.
  5. Degrassi Reboot Cancelled at HBO Max
  6. James Gunn, Peter Safran to Lead DC Studios for Warner Bros. Discovery
  7. Angela’s Tony wins (her win for Mame is not included because that was when the Tony’s weren’t televised, so there is no known recording if it). Her theatrical career gave her the opportunity to be cast as a leading lady, something Hollywood refused to do because of her “unconventional” looks by Hollywood standards.
  8. I don't recall seeing this 60 Minutes piece before. I know she was a bit pissed (who wouldn't be?), but I didn't realize that the intentional sabotage CBS inflicted on MSW in its last season had hurt her so deeply (she gets teary about the topic in this clip). And most of all, it was because of the loving fan response that made her get that way - Angela and Jessica were just so endearing and beloved by generations of people.
  9. I remember hearing that about MTS too, but wasn’t sure if that was just about daytime. I know some articles from the late 80’s and early 90’s specifically call out Angela, and gasp, Bill Cosby.
  10. I think it showed to general audiences as well - when Q ratings were a thing, it was often said Angela had the highest in all of TV, or near the highest at least during her time on MSW.
  11. Time will tell, but outside of Jessica Fletcher, Angela always said Mrs. Lovett from Sondheim's Sweeney Todd will be her definitive role - it probably will be in her storied Broadway career. I remember discovering this original cast album as a kid and being totally spooked it was the same woman from MSW. 😁
  12. She's one of those people I can't imagine ever not knowing about. Her accomplishments on Broadway, TV, and the Silver Screen are too many to name. All I can do is thank her for the countless hours of entertainment she's provided us all. RIP to a true legend. We've discussed MSW and Angela so much on this board over the years, so safe to say there's a community here very fond of her. Thinking of @Khan specifically who I know loved her.
  13. Kadeem Hardison said a few years back when the Roseanne drama happened that Carsey-Werner (or just Tom Werner now as I don’t believe Marcy Carsey is active anymore) are not interested in reviving the show, or in the same way they were with Roseanne (despite her issues). Perhaps that’s attributed to keeping a distance from anything associated with Cosby as ADW was produced in association with him. Which backfired IMO as Jaleesa never had any agency or any real story again after Walter left. There was that unfortunate quick marriage with Colonel Taylor, and then Dawnn Lewis abruptly left at the end of season 5 and Jaleesa wasn’t mentioned again.
  14. I love Evan Peters, but no real interest in a Murphy spin on this story.
  15. Thank goodness for sitcoms like Cheers, Kate & Allie, Nightcourt, The Golden Girls, and Designing Women for counterbalancing those corny family sitcoms.
  16. Rosanne had only debuted on Oct 18th of that year - so, two months in, it was already hitting #1 in the weeklies and the first serious challenger to Cosby's then dominance.
  17. Promo ABC ran when Roseanne dethroned Cosby in the weekly ratings in 1989. How often were these types of promos done congratulating shows that hit #1? I remember Roseanne saying at the time all ABC gave her was this promo and a stupid cake that said #1 (which she and George Clooney took a baseball bat to) while the male network stars were getting fancy cars and bigger network deals. Must have been an amazing time for Carsey-Werner though, having the top 3 shows in all of television at this point. That’s a feat I don’t believe another production company has ever accomplished.
  18. Facts Meanwhile, Disney+ is claiming it added close to 14.5 million in Q3. So, if you want to compare in the streaming wars, Peacock is still trailing far behind the competition.
  19. Her limited run was definitely closer to Anne's definitive interpretation than whatever Jensen was dishing out by that point. They even starting dressing Vicky more sleeker/sexier again to accommodate the tempcast.
  20. And Hollingsworth was later brought over to EastEnders to tidy things up as well not long after Eldorado, so the BBC must have been impressed despite the poor ratings. ITV wasn't even trying to hide how much they wanted to kill this show from the beginning by scheduling the first hour-long Coronation Street episode directly against the premiere Eldorado episode, lol.
  21. I only saw one episode of Jennifer Hudson's talk show in a doctor's office - but damn, she's so awkward, stilted, and unnatural. She's VERY rough and I will be surprised if she gets another season.
  22. I believe that pilot episode is the highest rated sitcom pilot episode in history thanks to that massive Cosby lead-in.
  23. The way they treated Lisa doesn’t surprise me, and pretty sickening that a young pregnant woman was treated like that. Her comments about the show not being a timeslot hit is funny as we’ve discussed this at length in past threads. However, the data backs up ADW being a timeslot hit despite what Jasmine claims. Without the Cosby lead-in, the show suffered and that had nothing to do with Martin (it didn’t even really directly compete with it in that last season and Fox was still a fledgling network that didn't have ratings comparable to NBC in primetime). Cheers had become a legitimate ratings hit in its own right along the way (that surpassed even Cosby) in a way ADW never did. I do think the show was ultimately undervalued by NBC though as they were more than happy to move it to Saturday in that last season and watch it die with little to no fanfare. Yvette Denise Lee, who created Martin’s Thursday night companion on Fox, Living Single, got her start on ADW, and of course a lot of ADW actors were guest stars on Living Single.
