In case you missed it, Laura and Ava mentioned Nikolas. Ava refused to take his calls from Pentonville. Laura said that Nikolas is being transferred to another prison in a different state. He will be harder to visit that way. The new writers are not going to bring Nikolas back on the show.

I think one of the problems with the framing for Trina is she has limited POV and screentime so those nuances are lost in the writing. Any fan of a character can be entitled, but I am not surprised that her fans seem to think she is being minimized or put into "safe" roles, especially as that was likely the only plan for the character before the pairing with Spencer took off.

I think that was still what Frank tried for after she got paired with Spencer, lol. He was only somewhat successful.

Regardless, Trina's love interest just got written off dramatically and the show is undergoing a writing change. The character is going to be recalibrated and yes, sometimes on less whenever something like that happens. I'm not going to assume the worst just yet. Especially since elements of the fanbase are wildly unrealistic if they expect a) Spencer to be recast immediately or b) Chavez to return ASAP and play out a reunion. Neither is likely to happen any time soon. it also remains to be seen if

Spoiler

Gio Cerullo is 18 & definitely not for Trina.

One thing Dan & Chris tended to isolate Trina to a very specific zone. She could have scenes with Joss, with Spencer & with Ava & be at the gallery & with her family. But that was all. Having her go to Brook Lynn's bach/bridal shower is something new which may signal that PM/EK are going to be broadening her horizons & as a character that should be excellent for her. But, don't mind me. I'm TrinaFF. I want her to have friends, associates, her own story perhaps & a new boyfriend later on this year. I hope what John posted above will come to be.

I'm somewhat concerned because a portion - not all - of SprinaNation is currently campaigning that Sprina MUST continue & there HAS TO BE either NAC or a recast Spencer immediately. Shades of the strident Danny & Michelle fanbase at GL which indirectly caused the show to write Danny, Michelle & their son Robby off the show!

Laura, specifically is a bone of contention for some SprinaNation fans. Laura knew Trina & knew how important she was to Spencer. (Many of Spencer's friends & family did not know Trina.) And she never expressed condolences to Sprina. Those fans were shocked that Laura didn't go over to Trina at the funeral.

I think that position is valid. It's more the show's history (or any soap's history) of heavy airtime after one half of a popular pairing goes compared to Trina's airtime, and also the tone of the writing that I can understand getting a negative response. I also think the decision to repeatedly have her show up to apologize or to sit for Ace while Laura spends a lot of time doing prop duty for lunatic characters we are meant to feel sorry for (Cyrus, Heather) hurts the setup that should have been there with the characters.

I don't blame them unless it gets into the area of "GH MUST reunite Spencer and Trina ASAP with NAC in the role!" That's not likely to happen right now. And they can miss me with jailing Laura, or whatever.

I can see that, but that also depends on the actor and isn't always the case when one half of a pairing goes (especially with the FV guarantee merry go round). And I do think Laura and Trina got a pretty fair amount of time together right after Spencer hit the drink (and again today, apparently). But I'm less hard on the Cyrus or Heather stuff because I think these scenes Laura has had with her relations have been surprisingly very good since the writing change - especially Cyrus dropping the man of God nonsense. I'm not going to begrudge what I think is good material.

There's a bunch of people who apparently think Laura's gotta go for being there for Heather. I don't!

I agree with Vee and Ive seen that talk all over TwiX

Also it seems like some are coming in to Trina episodes automatically looking for Racism

Like today she visits Ace. Tells Laura I wouldnt mind visiting Ace more and takes him to the park

So now Trina wants to be that Baby's Nanny. Portia must stop this. Where today did Trina ask to be Ace's nanny?

Also Trina was playing the WHAT If game today when talking with Laura. She knows she didnt make Spencer chose. Everyone plays the WHAT IF game to a degree after someone we love dies.

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive.
    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
