I am very sorry to hear this news. I have always really liked Billy Miller and enjoyed his work, going all the way back to his work as Richie on AMC. He was a talented actor and had chemistry with different female co-stars including some who struggled in other pairings. Kelly Monaco and Amelia Heinle brightened up in their pairings with him. I also remember having chemistry with Alexa Havins during his run on AMC and wondering what could have happened if she had stayed in that role/Richie hadn't been killed off. I remember Alexa saying he had a lot of talent and that she believed he would do well.

The last scenes of him as Richie/sparring with Annie/MCE on AMC are my favorite scenes of his. I loved the way they sparred about their relationship and family dynamic. It was very good work from him (and MCE too IMO).

May he Rest in Peace.

Wow this is a complete and total shock! With Miller being around my age well it reminds me of my own mortality. May he RIP indeed!

Well said Carl as this fits my sentiments as well. Definitely for myself I think Miller’s best work as Billy was that first year and he certainly was always memorable. Unfortunately the MAB/Sheffer/Hamner/Rauch crap just took its toll on everything and destroyed the show alive.

I was actually surprised he didn’t return to Y&R as Billy at some point after leaving Y&R. Oddly I still remember a Jess Walton interview a few years back she mentioned she enjoyed working with Tom, Brown, Jenkins, and Thompson as Billy, but zero mention of Miller. I wonder what happened there.

I feel bad his attempts to have an acting career outside of daytime never took off despite being gone every pilot season—his thankless roles on Ringer and Suits just went nowhere and I believe I last saw him on The Rookie in a guest spot a couple years back.

This is unverified but a poster on my forum said that her local news reported that he had a massive stroke. I'm sure confirmation of that will show up if it is accurate. I know we all wonder what could have struck him down so cruelly at his age.

May light perpetual shine upon him & give him grace. RIP much too young, Billy Miller.

I saw Michael Fairman's Tweet and came right here. I remember him on AMC, Y&R and GH and it was clear what a charismatic, talented actor he was -- too good for Daytime some said at the time. I was always surprised he never hit it big in Primetime TBH. I remember seeing him in a tiny role in a movie with Bradley Cooper, American Sniper?, and hoping it might lead him to other roles.

He reinvented the role of Billy Abbott on Y&R and brought it into adulthood, and as @DRW50 said, it was MAB's reviled run at the show which perhaps prevented me from giving him his props on Y&R at the time. He later went to GH and greatly impressed me there. In recent years, did it seem like he had left acting and moved back to Texas, or did I imagine that?

I believe he and Kelly Monaco were in a longtime relationship-- she especially seemed very much in love with him. I hope she is OK right now, this must be devastating for her.

As many have said, love or hate him, I think he did some of his best work, and made some sense out MABs so called writing. Wayyyy too young and definitely not what I expected to hear this morning!

RIP!

    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
