I am absolutely shocked and totally saddened.

I loved Jackie Zeman. I loved Bobbie Spencer. Although I gave up on GH many years ago, I would tune in to see her and she never disappointed me. No matter what producer tried to fire her, Jackie hung in there and remained a loyal cast mate and a passionate advocate for daytime.

She deserves a major tribute. A life cut short far too soon. May her memory be a blessing.

Alan Sarapa raises a good point that they’ll need to put off their tribute to JZ/Bobbie until after the WGA strike (which hopefully isn’t too prolonged and doesn’t end up snowballing to include DGA/SAG). But they do need to get it right. GH has done some wonderful tributes (John Reilly, Sonya Eddy), so I have faith they’ll do right by her. I think Tony Geary would absolutely return for it in some capacity.

Jackie’s State of Mind episode with Kin Shriner might be worth a rewatch. Maurice can be a bit much but he does elicit some good stories:

Singer Rick Springfield -- who famously starred on General Hospital in the early 80s -- shared a tribute to Zeman with ET on Wednesday.

Incredibly stunned and broken-hearted to hear of Jackie’s passing. Such a truly kind soul with no touch of the diva and only sweet things to say about everyone. She was the one (along with Gloria Monty) who helped launch my 80s career when after the screen test along with several other hopeful young men Gloria asked Jackie who she thought would make a good Noah Drake and God bless her if Jackie didn’t say me," Springfield shared. "Love to your spirit as it ascends sweet girl. You left your mark on many of us and you will not be forgotten."

I can't believe it either. Right after SE died with what also felt like no warning. I'm glad we got to see her a lot during the lead up to the nurses ball, but damn it all. 70 just feels too young to die these days. I don't care if that's an illusion, it just pisses me off and makes me sad.

Bobbie was the heart of GH through my childhood. She and Tony were the stalwart couple, the younger version of Steve and Audrey manning the halls of GH

As so many remember the major Bobbie stories (Stealing Scotty! BJ’s heart!) for years it was about the normal moments at the brownstone that made Bobbie special. She was like a sister to Felicia. She had amazing and heartfelt scenes with Tamara and Sarah as Carly. It was those everyday scenes that made her special.

The nurses station, the brownstone, and Kelly’s. Bobbie reigned over all the hubs of Port Charles life. I will be hard pressed to think where they will do a proper memorial for her when so many of these symbolic locales were hers.

My dream guest list? Carnes as Lucas (of course). Rick Springfield and Susan Pratt, to close out on that love story and rivalry. Maybe extra cameos by Sarah Brown and Tamara Braun?

Those of you who knew me way back when know how much Jackie and the character of Bobbie mean to me. Growing up watching GH is what inspired me to become a writer, and so much if that was due to Jackie's brilliant work.

Though the show tried its best to diminish and erase her, Jackie remained loyal to the institution that she helped to build. Seeing her on screen never failed to bring a smile to my face. I hope she knew what a force she was.

I feel as if I've lost an old friend. I am heartbroken.

Copied from the article thread in the news forum here:

Saw this on Twitter. I still can't quite believe it. Bobbie may have become marginalized, but JZ still was a link to GH's great past.

Barbara Jean Spencer was a great bad girl gone good...or at least, a gray character.

May Jaclyn Zeman rest in peace.

And per the question above, another Tweet said it was a short battle with cancer. Damn.

This is heartbreaking and stunning. I don’t know what to say. I feel for that cast and crew and all the alums who loved her. Not to mention the cast and crew of The Bay where she was an integral part of the show.

The cast and crew of General Hospital has had to face so much loss in a short amount of time. I don’t know if I can recall a time like this. Kristina Wagner is someone in particular who is on my mind. I hope they are doing okay and that the studio gives them the support they need to grieve. The amount of loss that they keep facing cannot be easy.

Heartbreaking.

    • Where's the credible source that JFP is back?
    • I remember Phyllis' place when she was with Billy -- there was a lot of (fake) concrete on that set, and I remember her living in a place that had a lot of red and white.
    • The only time Phyllis had a home in recent years was when she lived at the cottage house (Victoria's now home), the Abbott mansion, Nick's now-gone home, or the two temporary apartments she had. Otherwise, she's houseless.

    • The restaurant and coffee shop hopping is what bothers me, too. I absolutely hate it. Yes, the new sets are great. The Newman ranch, the Abbott mansion, Billy's house -- they're all classy and great. I appreciated The Crimson Lights update a few years ago, and the remodel of Sharon's tack house where Victoria lives is nicely done. However, because of limitations on what's permanently standing and what needs to be assembled when used, the sets problem is still a mess. We get Jack's office and that hallway into his office for a couple days, and that's it. That means any Jabot business talk is conducted at a bar, restaurant or coffee shop. It's nuts that Devon's office is no longer used. Lily? She sits down at either Society or the GCAC every damn day. Billy's starting this new, dynamic company -- no office. Phyllis? No home, no work space. She runs from restaurant to coffee shop. And no, throwing in that Chancellor Park set as a meeting place for EVERYONE who goes to the park isn't enough. When you have SO many characters discussing business (also a huge problem) it's a huge error to have only one business locale up at a time.  Comparing Y&R to DAYS does not work. We all know DAYS has no budget. We know that Y&R has been #1 for DECADES and SHOULD have a budget. We deserve better. Is the GH budget that much bigger than Y&R's? Because they manage an enormous cast and a buttload of sets just fine. GH doesn't look like a show that's penny-pinching. And then when Y&R spends money on a new set, it becomes a storyline, which is a joke. We hear about it for weeks on end. When has this ever happened on a soap? When should this ever happen? Compounding all this sets mess? The writing on Y&R is ABYSMAL. It has never been worse. I have never been so bored with this show in my entire life. B&B is trash, but Y&R is worse -- it's boring trash.
    • If I recall, they moved a wall that cut the living room from the kitchen off, and it is now more open. Either way, or the wall by the staircase, because you could always see that smell kitchen. IIRC, he's still living in the house he had during Mal Young's regime that got quickly nixed.
    • Vault is temporarily down - I'll get it back up within a few hours.

    • For all of Kat's supposed interest in true crime, she seems pretty clueless.

date: Friday, June 6 | Ron Carlivati, Jazmen Darnell Brown | Phideaux Xavier Katherine, you sneaky sneak. Eavesdropping on Eva's phone call with Laura to go off to her hotel room. Very happy to see Chelsea and Naomi hanging out at Uptown! Bill is pushing himself too much; those mini-strokes are going to lead to a full-blown one, and trust me, those are not fun to recover from at all. So, Vanessa couldn't walk, huh? Is Joey that good <s>in bed</s> on the poker table? Darius is the hotel equivalent of George on the Fairmont Crest grounds, trusting the Dupree women like it's nothing. At least Darius got some crisp new bills out of it. I appreciate that outwardly, Bill isn't a toxic hetero male when it comes to his future son (if he has one) doing ballet. That's refreshing from a man of his stature. So, the child bride prances to the kitchen for a sports drink and does not prance again until she hits the living room? Girl, you want that man dead. Uh-oh, Joey has let out Douglas' secrets... and Ms Vanessa does not look any happier about it. Vanessa, destroy them both. Tomas continues to be a stand-up guy; he's keeping it honest with Eva that Katherine has his attention. Good on him. At least Katherine put on gloves this time when handling "evidence", ha. Oh, so Madison is "Dr Montgomery"? Oh so this should be interesting to see unfold! Notes: I appreciate the ongoing "coming out" moments for Chelsea with her family members; today, it's Naomi receiving the news and reacting completely naturally to it. Lauren Buglioli (Vanessa) is really beginning to show some range in her work, from the uppity real estate mogul, to her crying, and now we're about to get full bitch mode. Bring it.
