I think that nuEJ is getting better now that he's had more than one episode and is interacting with more people. I can't believe they had him in jammies in those bedroom scenes. Why did they pass up the opportunity to have the new guy shirtless?!

Love seeing Anna. Kate is SO bad at pretending to be blind, lol. I swear that Gabi and Jake have the same exact conversation in every episode. "Did you tell Kate you're with me and not her?" "Nope." "OMG why not? You must want her and not me!" "I swear I'm gonna tell her, she's just not ready yet!" Zzzzz. Kate toying with Jake is at least fun.

It's is weird Marlena treats family members (including her husband) and close friends.  It's always been like that though.  Laura and Kim used to treat people even though I can't recall what Kim was (social worker or licensed therapist).  The only other psychiatrists on this show I remember were bad guys.   But this show has never been great with the accuracy of the medical field or any field of work really lol.

Honestly, instead of making both Carrie and Belle lawyers, I may have made one of them a shrink.  It's actually weird none of Marlena's kids or grandkids ever showed any interest in medicine.  It would be interesting if Allie decided to get into social work or psychology after her trauma instead of starting a bakery when she doesn't bake.

Exactly!!! Allie should decide to become a counselor at the hospital that deals in trauma. And for Chanel I would've preferred if she would've opening a boutique instead of a bakery. But at least Chanel/Allie has goals unlike most of the twenty/thirtysomething set on soaps these days.

A boutique seems more like Chanel's vibe, but maybe it would be too similar to Gabi Chic?  I am glad Chanel, Allie, and Tripp have goals, unlike Claire/Ciara who seem aimless.   I don't think ID sings, but when is the last time Claire mentioned her singing career?

Allie seems like someone who would be very good at counseling.  I could see her easily transitioning into that role.  Honestly even someone like Claire could become interested in mental help because of her previous mental health issues (ala Kim), although she seem less suited for that, but it would give her something to do besides follow Ben around.

That's where I am at personally. I am actually happy to see young characters have plans that are both ambitious for their age and realistic but could provide fodder for stuff later one. Give characters depth, angles and layers instead of relying on the lazy police/lawyer/doctor/workwithfamily.

Much better than aimlessness - since putting youngsters on soaps at Salem college seems to be not an option for some reason even though it'd provide a simple response to what-are-they-doing without tying them to a job AND be realistic - or worse yet the inevitable "I wanna be famous" storylines every soap gives us with regularity with younger characters, especially when they sing.

Bakery hasn't been done before and like any business the actual thing they do will be irrelevant to whether good storylines come out of it. I don't think the drama around Kirakis or DiMera's business empires has ever had much to do with what they actually do/make.

I agree about the "famous" storylines.   I don't like supermodel stories or singing stories much.   You are subjected to lots of iffy singing or a suspension of disbelief that all the towns need models to promote their singular cosmetic line forever lol.   Outside of B&B, which is in LA and is about fashion, it rarely makes sense.

I prefer doctor/cop/lawyer to working at the family business on Days though.  Has there ever been a good business story on Days?  Maybe some Vivian/Kate/Titan stuff in the 90's, but I can't think of anything else in recent memory.

Bakery hasn't been done before so that's different, but I feel like it will be in the same vain as opening coffee shops on soaps just without the set lol.

lol

So bad.

Nothing says building up romance like a dead body (I assume he dies; I haven't watched)

Excellent points.

I would love Allie becoming a counselor.

I agree with others that making both Belle and Carrie lawyers is a bit redudant. Belle makes more sense as an Elle Woods lawyer type who's actually good at it. Carrie would have made sense as a counselor but the character never seemed to have a solid career direction. Model, business, owning a business ... it never really seemed to work (Model was just a plot point of course).

Both Carrie and Belle are odd choices as lawyers, but I buy both of them now.  Carrie never seemed terribly interested in studies or school and I don't think she went to college for long, so it's a weird career turn around.  I thought she was as believable as Billie, Kate, Sami, Austin, etc at Titan in the 90's doing whatever they did.

Belle at least was portrayed as super smart and studious until she got married at like 20 and then bemoaned how her and Shawn had no money despite both rich parents and the fact she made no effort to get a job lol, but I could see her and Shawn pulling their lives together off screen.  Much more believable than Austin Reed: super accountant/teacher.

    • Yes, Stacy does this both for early DAYS & early GH. I have written some for her, for DAYS.
    • Hahahha I think sleeping with almost all of your daughters's boyfriends and husbands and getting pregnant... definitely gives Brooke the right to top 1 place. Long live the whore of Beverly hills.

    • CurlyQGrl has DVDs of some episodes, that they can sell, but that doesn't matter. What is helpful: they describe the scenes on the tapes, so you can read that as recaps without ordering anything. Doesn't really give storylines, though, which is what you asked for.  Here's the links anyhow. full menu https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/menu.html GH page https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/menu.html GH 1960s https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/eps/gheps1960s.htm
    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
