GH March 2021 Discussion

Gladys is a hoot. She's trashy and messy. She stirs it up. So many of the characters are so BLAND.

So glad this is finally kicking into high gear. Those scenes of Saint Sonny/Mike at Tan-o's. With his new found BFF's are unbearable. I'm hoping Nina breaks Sonny's heart.

I hope they go there with Nina and Sonny. I don't need them sleeping together but you know they probably will. I want it messy. I feel like Valentini is still afraid to let the show truly be as messy as it could be lol. So many Stanco stans have been whining about the "miserable" show (and all of the so-called couples busted up were awful and chemistry free). I mean, they would never have survived Frons era GH. Or the 80s on any soap.

I only bring up the stans because whenever I seem to have any interest in the show, the stans don't and the show seems to end up catering to those loud and vocal stans who have no idea how a soap works.

I' sure Maura West would appreciate such kind words while she's polishing her Emmys and reminiscing about her many nominations.  She's always been fantastic.  When you consider how often during her ATWT run the stories were crappy (don't forget Denise DiMuccio on GH oy!), yet she never phoned it in like RoHo has throughout Paul and ALL  of his time on GH.  He definitely stopped caring and was there for his ATM withdrawals.  RoHo's stans are the only reason he's been working. Bringing him back will just be more garbage.  There's a reason shows didn't cast actors that previously appeared on them in different roles without a few years between.......

Yep, I'm not a fan of Nina but I'm here for her finding out Sonny's alive and keeping it from Carly as revenge. Finally something interesting is happening. I'm just glad that anything at all is happening with this Sonny story finally. It feels like it's been months of Sonny hanging out with Phyllis and Lenny (and I actually like them but it's time for something to happen).

Also random but I'm pretty sure I saw the guy who plays Brando (Johnny Wacker or whatever his porn-sounding name is) in a commercial for the Gardisil HPV vaccine.

I could give a rat's ass about Nina and "her legacy" but I'm so here for it, lol. Like you said, something interesting.

I like Phyllis and Lenny too but it's been repetitive. Sonny acts strange, Lenny gets concerned, Phyllis talks him down, cop comes in, wash rinse repeat. LOL.

I happened to be looking at the Emmy records just this week and Maura is tied in fourth for number of wins with Heather Tom and Helen Gallagher (three wins). The first (Erika Slezak with six wins), second and third (Susan Flannery and Kim Zimmer with four wins) are all retired so she has room to move up the rankings.

She is also tied at third in number of nominations (10) with Susan Flannery (who is retired), one fewer nomination than Kim Zimmer (who is also retired) so I wouldn't be surprised if she did move in second place within a couple of years.
Catching up to Susan Lucci's 21 will be hard though LOL but her combined record (3 wins/10 noms) definitely puts her in the top four actresses of all times with Slezak (6 wins/9 noms), Zimmer (4 wins/11 noms) and Flannery (4 wins/10 noms) and, unlike these three, she is still active with room to add to her collection.

I've been trying not to throw that out there but yeah, you know it. Sonny's wonder sperm will magically knock up Nina. I guess Snarly's reaction to it should be worth it. I'm so tired of her. I'd rather watch Cynthia Watros' Nina and her "legacy" over Laura Wright's wailing as Carly.

Meanwhile, it's always fun when I randomly stir up the stanbases. I threw out there that Howarth would probably play Drew with Franco's face and they are losing their minds lol. They act like the show gives a [!@#$%^&*] about Billy Miller as Drew like they do.

PREACH!

Roger was playing himself really (as Franco in the last few years). He hasn't "acted" in a very long time. He perked up when Franco had the upper hand on Peter and I almost remembered when I used to like him.

They wanted Todd 2.0. both times (on ATWT and GH). It didn't work.

ATWT had several miscasts, IMHO in their desperation to snag ABC stars (Susan Batten, Marie Wilson, Julie Pinson, Roger Howarth). How'd that work, I see ratings rose and they're still on the air -- ooops, you're not.

Howarth would have been better as a resurrected David Stenbeck (not that I'd really necessarily like that, but if they insisted on hiring Howarth ...). I also thought Hunt Block would have made a better Scott than Craig and would have given Lisa something to do. Anywho .... I digress like always.

This is where the show really screwed up by giving Sonny so many kids.  A Nina/Sonny baby would be soapy goodness.  It would be so much fun to watch Carly's head explode.  They should have made Avery Morgan's baby and Donna should not exist.   I would even say Kristina is useless as well.  Sonny should have only Dante, Michael, and Morgan as his kids.  Then we could have a Nina/Sonny daughter and the possibility would be left open for a Brenda/Sonny kid.  GH is the only show that has 3 supercouples with no kids (Robert/Holly, Duke/Anna, Sonny/Brenda).  It's very strange.   Why Ethan is not Robert/Holly's son astounds me to this day.  Why Brenda's rando child isn't Jax's is perplexing as well.  These stories write themselves lol.

Come on, Chase and Michael. Ignore Willow, Sasha and Brook Lynn and give each other what you both really want

I’m really liking the Britt/Maxie relationship. It was a great idea to bring Britt back and keep her on.

And although we all saw it coming, I am liking Nina’s story too. It’s starting to look like Nina actually has a purpose on the show for the first time in years

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
