Some of my favorites-

Edge of Night- love that last shot.

AMC- The only good thing that happened to this show during Frons was bringing back this theme music.  This is my favorite version though.

GH- I didn’t think anything could replace the sirens and ambulance, but this is my favorite soap open.

I’m also really partial to this version of the song used in the 1990’s Guiding Light theme, but I loved the images and cast best from the first version with Beverlee, Sherry, and Harley dancing at the end.

Favorite prime time soap open is Knots Landing.

Themes That Best Used the Available Technology Available at that Time- AW and ATWT -1981 - a variation on their pervious themes that utilized computer technology - they may looked dated today, but were technological marvels for their time

The ATWT '81-93 theme, AKA my formative years, AKA the last ATWT theme song I will acknowledge as I'm not into funeral music or flushing toilets.

The Ryan's Hope 1983 opening. It was a lovely window into what the show could have been and should have been.

Until we got to Paul Rauch gutting the opening in 1997, I think GL had many, many good openings. Beyond those already mentioned, I also like the "pop" version of the longtime theme. So, so late '80s, but so good. I especially like the little Johnny/Chelsea bit at the end.

I've always thought this OLTL opening was so underrated. Gorgeous. This is so precious to me. A "generic" opening done right, rather than like a failed USA network crime show from 1993 (looking at you Linda Gottlieb...)

This is just a stunning, stunning theme. It's a shame we never got to see more of it.

And of course:

GL really did have amazing themes. That theme you posted was the right way of doing a cheesy ‘80s update while that SFT theme sounded like a garish porn intro.

I actually like the 2002 GL opening a lot and was sad they ditched it so quickly.

My favorite part of the 1990s "Hold on to Love" theme was its use as incidental music on the show. I don't think anyone used their theme music quite as effectively as GL. You already knew you were watching an important or sentimental scene when it came on.

This one is my favorite, starting about 1:37.

That conversation between Ross and David was pretty great too!

I love it when soaps include subtle variations of their theme song within a scene.  ATWT used to do a light and sexy one during the mid to late 80s.

@Faulkner I'm not sure about that 2002 GL theme though, it sounds perilously close to that "toilet flush" theme that ATWT had in the late 90s/2000s that @DRW50 mentioned.

    • OH, I AM.   And it looks like it's a pretty good episode so I might watch later on this weekend after work cuz I see a lot of scenes with people I actually like. Very happy to see Rocco/Danny appear to be getting story, too.
    • I do agree that a revival of EON would work, if it doesn't fall into doing all of the typical soap opera tropes... which it became guilty of in the final few years of the show with the over abundance of Raven/Sky at the expense of the actual detectives, police, etc. And I know it was mentioned earlier that Raven had lost any true connections on the show with the death of her on screen mother, and the loss of April/Draper/Deborah.. and I do agree with that. I actually thought the show would have done something with the Shelley character that could have connected her to the Raven character.  There were a few scenes where the two would have scenes and size one another up before they would go their separate ways.. so I assumed perhaps they would have been revealed as half-siblings and/or perhaps cousins.  Alas.. not to be.
    • It definitely flowed beautifully. So much that I was annoyed when Vanessa/Doug because I wanted to get back to the party. I know it was intentional to build up tension and suspense. It worked. lol. I'm glad it was there in hingsight because it gave us that great conversation between Doug and Vanessa. Foreshadowing? And yesss!!! This episode was sooo old school soap giving beat after beat after beat leading up to the unveiling of Eva as Ted's daughter. And we still have plenty of fallout/aftereffects to work through.   Speaking of...Bill, Bill, Bill lol. Good to have confirmation HE was the scary lawyer.   I'm sure I will have a busy Monday, but I can't wait for it. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more. Probably Anita vs Silk Press Sheila tbh. And yes, I feel they will be matching each other 'blow for blow.'
    • And if they go there, it could also be tied to Johnny completely cutting him off, possibly going to work for Titan, etc.
    • @AbcNbc247 maybe it is just that they've gone to that well too often, and I don't like when DAYS goes dark, but I'm OK with EJ abusing drugs, and just skipping the whole sobriety part. Side note: experiencing hallucinations of my son killing me would be enough for me to never want to take a pill again.

    • Part of the reason that Courtney worked at OLTL was because the show had an actual character for her to play.  One that was somewhat different than her character on AW, and after the way she was treated over at AW.. it had to have been nice to be courted onto a new soap that actually valued your contributions.
    • I figured the "long" was already implied
    • You'll be very impressed
