You are absolutely correct about this assertion. Promising Young Woman alone built up a reserve of awards goodwill. Hollywood is fickle though, so who knows how long this will last? Today’s Emerald Fennell may very well become tomorrow’s Diablo Cody, who although still doing work, is just no longer a film industry darling. I also think Fennell’s British-ness also tends to automatically elevate her creative ideas in the minds of the industry people.

Surprised that Margot Robbie didn’t get in for Best Actress but America Ferrera managed a Supporting Actress nod. I guess Best Actress was more competitive than people anticipated. Annette Bening is about to head into Glenn Close territory with unrewarded nominations.

I'd love to see "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" tie for Best Picture, lol.

It's pretty ridiculous that both Gerwig and Robbie got snubbed IMO (Gerwig was also snubbed for the equally excellent Little Women). And probably an angry response from the Academy's senior members.

Thrilled about Anatomy of a Fall, but this is dirty pool to me and we're probably going to see another round of anonymous ballots with grumpy Academy members bitching about wokeism or something re: Barbie. Never mind that it was the biggest movie of the year, and not exactly coasting on woke capital and tear-stained online social media posts (like other movies in recent past I could name).

The rumors today that Paul Thomas Anderson ghostwrote KOTFM are wild.

There's usually one or two surprise nominations and America Ferrera was it this year.  A bit disappointed about Margot but she was never going to win.  As a big Christopher Nolan, I hope he wins Best Director.  I know he's the favourite, but you never know.  Will feel more comfortable if he wins the DGA.  So according to these nominations, it's a three horse race for Best Picture: Oppenheimer, Anatomy of a Fall, and Poor Things.

Given the complaints I've seen people make about the Killers screenplay, that's interesting.

A few days ago, in one of the Oscars prediction videos, one of the 'experts' was talking about how Margot and Greta stood a good chance of not being nominated because the Oscar voters do not want to reward this type of film, they don't take this type of movie seriously. Given the history of the Academy, that would seem to be true. The nomination for Annette Bening is much more of what they want to see from actresses, along with that cookie cutter long-suffering wife role from Carey Mulligan.

I feel bad for America Ferrera as she's gotten so much backlash for her nomination, with people saying in one breath it's due to her being Latino and in another saying she's not Latino enough, saying it's just "woke" voters due to her speech, other people acting like it's an outrage that she got in compared to someone like Penelope Cruz or Rosamund Pike (who is certainly entertaining to watch but whose work in Saltburn I've seen too many times to count).

There was also a viral tweet saying she's just like Jamie Lee Curtis. It feels like people are just jumping on her as an easy target, even though she isn't even going to win.

I saw a tweet from Stephen King about how out of touch the Oscars were with the public, which confused me, as the most popular movies of last year got a lot of nominations. Maybe he's a big fan of Super Mario Brothers, GOTG3 or Wonka?

I like America Ferrera, but it feels like a very condescending nom; like, 'oh, we'll give them something for the famous monologue'. It was a great scene and she did great. Do I think it needed a nomination, no, but that's the weird giveth and taketh mentality of the Academy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there some sort of controversy surrounding America Ferrara when she still was on "Ugly Betty"?  Not anything to do with her personal life, per se, but just that she was polarizing for some reason.

She did a lot of campaigning during the voting period, and I guess also benefited from the category only having two sure nominations. I do wonder if part of their reason was strategic - people look worse when they decry the lack of nominations for Margot and Greta and don't mention her. It plays into "white feminism" discourse (not helped by Hillary tweeting today...).

    • Glad you enjoyed watching. Yes, Michael seems like fun. I am always interested in more of these niche talk show appearances.
    • Thanks for the tag @DRW50
    • Upon reflection, I think you're right, their chilliness toward each other was more recent. She said women on the show in 1984 were not supportive and she still stays away from them. She seems friendly with Susan Hayes so Deidre is the only woman still around from those days, though I guess Kristian Alfonso and Leann Hunley could also qualify. And it might be someone long gone but who is still present in Suzanne's social circles.
    • I don't know.  The animosity seems to be more recent than the mid 80s.  When Maggie was a victim of the Salem Stalker i remember reading an interview with Suzanne where she said they aired the episode(s) surrounding Maggie death in a theatre and made a big deal about it.  Suzanne was very upset about being fired and Dee comforted her and said that they were making such a big deal about it because it was Suzanne/Maggie.  I cannot find the article but I will keep trying. That said Suzanne's comments on Soapy about how some of the female cast members treated her during her illness was disappointing to hear to say the least.
    • Anyway... Kristen should have a prison lesbian story arc. And then come out and become obsessed with Marlena so we can move her on from the Brady nonsense. Is that secret room still in the DiMera mansion?
    • Oh, wow... where can I find this interview?
    • I'm really liking Izaiah and Eva so far. And why can't I help but feel that something might happen to make Jessica stay in Fairmont Crest permanently?
    • So Pam didn't create her? I thought she had the whole of 87-88. I'll look around, thanks for the point in the right direction.

date: Tuesday, November 18, 2025 | Jamey Giddens, Danielle Paige | Steven Williford Samantha, accept the fact you were in the wrong and do not deserve your digital devices. Do not like it? Go upstairs. Read a book. Do some knitting. Bradley and Martin's "we get it" to Tyrell was hilarious and absolutely a parent's thing to do. Loving a bit of history of both the Duprees (via Eva) and the Hawthrones (via Izaiah). So cute. Poor June. I am sure she did not purposefully mean to mess up; we have all been there working in customer service. Shake it off and keep on keeping on! Not twice a week for Vernon's cobbler order... Sharon must be using that as payment for their meetings. I appreciate that Ted still cares about the Duprees despite the end of his marriage to Nicole. Not Dana using Peaches' crisis as a way of taking Ted's attention away from a co-worker. Girl, do not be so obvious. Bradley is a man after my own heart with a simply divine chocolate milkshake. That is the way to go. Dana really needs to dial it back. Money will not buy her everything she wants and she will realise it soon enough. And I doubt Shanice is scared off by her idle threats, either. "With all due respect, Ms Thomas, this isn't a shopping mall." Oh, Dr Wilkes just owned Dana's arrogant ass. I love it. Wigs and personas? Okay now, Shanice ate with that read. I like that June assured Bradley that she will not replace him or Martin in the twins' lives. And that blood does not make a parent. Words never rang more true. Jessica reading Samantha was amazing. Dana would want to involve Ted. Her obsession is crossing beyond dangerous boundaries. Not Dana catching Vernon leaving Sharon's room at the country club. That is not good. Not good at all! Notes: Ugh. Not another breakdown from writer2. This week was going so well. Thankfully, Paige is an outstanding scriptwriter (one of this soap's best), and her words today are excellent. The food at Orphey Gene's does look bomb, so I do not blame any of the characters for uptalking it. I would eat there daily if I could. And gain hundreds of pounds, too. David Lami Friebe (Izaiah) continues to make me sick watching him, but he is nice to listen to. I still really like having June as the central person hub at Orphey Gene's. That familiar face you see when you walk in and have scenes. Dana wanting a second opinion means we could have an incoming doctor, right...?
