  1. When Y&R had the 2010 remote in New Orleans, it was reported that New Orleans was Y&R's #1 media market. I know at one time Y&R's #1 media market was St. Louis and St. Louis aired Y&R at 4 pm head-to-head w/ Oprah.
  2. @Gray Bunny I thought of Chicago as a Y&R/CBS city, considering the Bells were originally based there and Lee Bell had a local talk show. I got the impression that Lee Bell was a precursor of sorts to Oprah. Correct me if I'm wrong but did Lee Bell's talk show end just before Oprah went national?
  3. The first set of post-Oprah game show ratings. $25000 Pyramid and Card Sharks clearances dropped a little. NBC other than Wheel of Fortune and Scrabble not looking so great. ABC also not looking so great. We know September 1987 NBC ends Wordplay and moves Scrabble to 12:30 pm.
  4. Three tiers have formed: Bell shows and Days at the top, ABC big three middle of the pack, P&G shows at the bottom.
  5. @JAS0N47 Thank you for the clarification re ABC 10 am programming.
  6. The game show ratings are now four months away from Oprah going national. November 1986 chart I'm expecting a drop in clearances for the game shows not named The Price is Right. ABC hadn't programmed 10 am at all since the 1970s; I'm not sure if they ever did. NBC gave up 4 pm in December 1977. ABC gave up 4 pm in December 1984. CBS gave up 4 pm in September 1986. We can see ABC struggling w/ 11 am and I don't think they had any success at 11 am until The View. It will be interesting to see if NBC Wheel of Fortune clearances were impacted by Oprah going national.
  7. Thank you @JAS0N47
  8. Y&R this week: Lauren departs Genoa City. B&B this week: Lauren arrives in Los Angeles. B&B this week: Sheila returns. B&B started tanking (at least to me) after Sheila's goodbye party, thus these moves by Bradley.
  9. @JAS0N47 When putting together the 1980s game show ratings, have you come across any weeks where Wheel of Fortune finished ahead of both halves of The Price is Right?
  10. Thankfully Josh Griffith hasn't gone all The Hand That Rocks the Cradle w/ Claire.
  11. Same here. The Price is Right lead me to Y&R.
  12. That was a pivotal week in CBS daytime history, as Y&R expanded to 1 hour and CBS rearranged the afternoon line up (ET) to Noon Local programming, 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow, 1 pm Y&R, 2 pm As the World Turns, 3 pm Guiding Light, 4 pm One Day at a Time reruns. Wheel of Fortune has blown up, and we're still four months away from the syndication debut.
  13. Two big moves on the business end in Fall 1995: CBS is sold to Westinghouse and Disney begins the process of purchasing ABC. On the broadcasting side in Fall 1995, CBS affiliates start moving Guiding Light to the mornings (10 am ET; 9 am Central, Mountain, Pacific).
  14. It was often said that ABC soaps got their highest ratings in the Northeast and on the West Coast and CBS soaps got their highest ratings in the South and Midwest. Not sure where the NBC soaps fit regionally.
  15. December 27, 1976 ABC new times for Ryan's Hope and All My Children. ABC new schedule (ET) starting w/ soaps until the end of the day was 12:30 pm Ryan's Hope, 1 pm All My Children, 1:30 pm Family Feud, 2 pm $20000 Pyramid, 2:30 pm One Life to Live, 3:15 pm General Hospital, 4 pm The Edge of Night Ryan's Hope was now head-to-head w/ Search for Tomorrow.
  16. I have no memory of Traci first book being about her and Ashley. I didn't like how Bill Bell wrote BE Ashley and Traci as romantic rivals. During ED original run he kept Ashley and Traci in separate orbits as far as their romances and romantic rivalries went (Ashley/Victor/Nikki, Traci/Danny/Lauren, Traci/Brad/Lauren) and Ashley looked out for Traci and was protective of her. I also think Bill Bell realized that Don Diamont was no match acting-wise for ED so that's why he had Brad original storyline pursue Traci and not Ashley.
  17. So who's having a Hot Girl Summer here? I'm not going to post that video as this is a family friendly board
  18. It seemed Bill Bell was starting to lose interest in the Abbotts around 1987, first with Traci role being reduced then the Ashley and Jack recasts which threw off the balance of the family. BE Ashley feels like a totally different character compared to ED original recipe Ashley. I might be way off about this, but with Traci role being reduced, BE Ashley seemed like she was both Abbott daughters as one character.
  19. The 1980s was a crazy time for fashion.
  20. In hindsight, Ashley should have been rested in 1988 and brought back when ED was ready to return to daytime. ED didn't get a proper exit storyline and Bill Bell rushed into recasting Ashley but then BE Ashley basically floundered for like 6 months until Bill Bell set up Ashley/Brad/Traci triangle during Summer 1989. BE was a serviceable recast, but looking back at her run, her main storylines (Ashley/Traci/Brad triangle, Victor marriage/divorce, Blade/Rick) didn't really work. Second half of 1994 to first half of 1997 Y&R was off track and was shaken by the huge rise of time slot rival Reilly Days. That era to me is marked by the frat party, Nick/Sharon eating the show, and a lull in the storylines. The only bright spot was Who Shot Victor.
  21. @Franko The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune were time slot rivals on these date ranges and times August 11-September 5, 1975: 10:30-11 am ET. September 8-11, 1975: 10:30-11:30 am ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and High Rollers. September 15-October 31, 1975: 10:30-11 am ET. November 3, 1975-January 16, 1976: 10-11 am ET. NBC Celebrity Sweepstakes and Wheel of Fortune. March 7-November 4, 1977: 10:30-11:30 am ET. NBC Hollywood Squares and Wheel of Fortune. December 12, 1977-April 21, 1978: 10:30-11:30 am ET. NBC Hollywood Squares and Wheel of Fortune. April 23, 1979-June 20, 1980: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC High Rollers and Wheel of Fortune. June 23-August 1, 1980: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC David Letterman Show and Wheel of Fortune. August 4, 1980-October 23, 1981: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and Password Plus. October 26, 1981-April 23, 1982: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and Battlestars. Wheel of Fortune December 28, 1981 was Pat Sajak debut. January 3-April 1, 1983: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and Hit Man. Wheel of Fortune December 13, 1982 was Vanna White debut. The Price is Right January 3, 1983 first playing of Plinko. April 4, 1983-June 29, 1984: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and Dream House. Wheel of Fortune September 19, 1983 was syndication debut. July 2, 1984-September 4, 1987: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and Scrabble. September 7, 1987-June 30, 1989: 11 am-Noon ET. NBC Wheel of Fortune and Win, Lose, or Draw. Wheel of Fortune January 9, 1989 was Pat Sajak final NBC episode. Wheel of Fortune June 30, 1989 was NBC original run final episode.
  22. @JAS0N47 Thank you for the additional info 😀 I'm interested too. The Price is Right was the first daytime show I became a fan of, and that lead me to the rest of the CBS game show block and then to the CBS soaps.
  23. @Khan Thanks for the reply. Like I always point out, its too bad that so little of 1976-1978 GL is out there which makes any 1979 and 1980 episodes that surface such a treat. We all know CB 1988 departure was due to health reasons and CB departure lead to MZ 1989 return, but imagine if CB Alan and MZ Roger had faced off in the Calhoun era, I think it would have been amazing. I just realized that a couple weeks ago (June 14) was the 35th anniversary of CB passing away.
  24. Unless I'm not searching properly in the 1970s ratings thread, the latest I found is May 1978. April 23, 1979 CBS moved The Price is Right to it's current time slot 11 am ET. Sometime between May 1978 and February 1980, The Price is Right became the #1 non-soap daytime program.
  25. Thank you for the reply @Mitch64. Roger and Alan paved the way for the 1980s to be the decade of the villain.
