Ratings from the 80's
@JAS0N47 When putting together the 1980s game show ratings, have you come across any weeks where Wheel of Fortune finished ahead of both halves of The Price is Right?

Same here. The Price is Right lead me to Y&R.

That was a pivotal week in CBS daytime history, as Y&R expanded to 1 hour and CBS rearranged the afternoon line up (ET) to Noon Local programming, 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow, 1 pm Y&R, 2 pm As the World Turns, 3 pm Guiding Light, 4 pm One Day at a Time reruns. Wheel of Fortune has blown up, and we're still four months away from the syndication debut.

Ratings From the 90's
Two big moves on the business end in Fall 1995: CBS is sold to Westinghouse and Disney begins the process of purchasing ABC. On the broadcasting side in Fall 1995, CBS affiliates start moving Guiding Light to the mornings (10 am ET; 9 am Central, Mountain, Pacific).

Ratings from the 80's
It was often said that ABC soaps got their highest ratings in the Northeast and on the West Coast and CBS soaps got their highest ratings in the South and Midwest. Not sure where the NBC soaps fit regionally.

Y&R: Old Articles
I have no memory of Traci first book being about her and Ashley. I didn't like how Bill Bell wrote BE Ashley and Traci as romantic rivals. During ED original run he kept Ashley and Traci in separate orbits as far as their romances and romantic rivalries went (Ashley/Victor/Nikki, Traci/Danny/Lauren, Traci/Brad/Lauren) and Ashley looked out for Traci and was protective of her. I also think Bill Bell realized that Don Diamont was no match acting-wise for ED so that's why he had Brad original storyline pursue Traci and not Ashley.

So who's having a Hot Girl Summer here? I'm not going to post that video as this is a family friendly board

It seemed Bill Bell was starting to lose interest in the Abbotts around 1987, first with Traci role being reduced then the Ashley and Jack recasts which threw off the balance of the family. BE Ashley feels like a totally different character compared to ED original recipe Ashley. I might be way off about this, but with Traci role being reduced, BE Ashley seemed like she was both Abbott daughters as one character.

The 1980s was a crazy time for fashion.

In hindsight, Ashley should have been rested in 1988 and brought back when ED was ready to return to daytime. ED didn't get a proper exit storyline and Bill Bell rushed into recasting Ashley but then BE Ashley basically floundered for like 6 months until Bill Bell set up Ashley/Brad/Traci triangle during Summer 1989. BE was a serviceable recast, but looking back at her run, her main storylines (Ashley/Traci/Brad triangle, Victor marriage/divorce, Blade/Rick) didn't really work. Second half of 1994 to first half of 1997 Y&R was off track and was shaken by the huge rise of time slot rival Reilly Days. That era to me is marked by the frat party, Nick/Sharon eating the show, and a lull in the storylines. The only bright spot was Who Shot Victor.

@JAS0N47 Thank you for the additional info 😀 I'm interested too. The Price is Right was the first daytime show I became a fan of, and that lead me to the rest of the CBS game show block and then to the CBS soaps.

@Khan Thanks for the reply. Like I always point out, its too bad that so little of 1976-1978 GL is out there which makes any 1979 and 1980 episodes that surface such a treat. We all know CB 1988 departure was due to health reasons and CB departure lead to MZ 1989 return, but imagine if CB Alan and MZ Roger had faced off in the Calhoun era, I think it would have been amazing. I just realized that a couple weeks ago (June 14) was the 35th anniversary of CB passing away.

Unless I'm not searching properly in the 1970s ratings thread, the latest I found is May 1978. April 23, 1979 CBS moved The Price is Right to it's current time slot 11 am ET. Sometime between May 1978 and February 1980, The Price is Right became the #1 non-soap daytime program.

Y&R: Old Articles
Going by memory, I think Nikki first met Dr. Josh in a medical capacity when she and Brad were engaged and Dr. Josh gave the impression that he was married. It was after Nikki and Brad engagement ended that Nikki saw Dr. Josh again and found out he wasn't married. Hope was back for something like 8 months, returned Fall 1996 and was gone by Spring 1997. Y&R had been off-track since second half of 1994 (it started w/ the frat party). Summer 1996 I enjoyed Who Shot Victor, but it was in the fall that the lull hit and it would continue through the first half of 1997. @DRW50 You are killing me 🤣 Shari Shattuck casting as Ashley derailed some storylines too. I think Bill Bell was planning a Victor/Nikki/Brad/Ashley quad but Shari Shattuck didn't pass the chemistry tests w/ EB and Don Diamont so there goes that storyline.

What Are You Listening To?
Classic story theme song battle. The only version that matters as far as I'm concerned. I recognize Celine Dion version cemented her place in the 1990s pop landscape but for me it will forever be Angela over Celine. Oh hells no to this version. If I was Angela Lansbury I would have bitch slapped Ariana Grande for ruining the song.
