  1. A lot of people on Reddit have been saying that Garcelle is kind of a confessional sniper. Very cutting in her talking heads but meek in the moment (not backing up Sutton against Erika’s gangsta threats). Of course, she has to be careful about how she handles herself in ways her cast mates may not, but hopefully she gets Erika together.
  2. You know what? I was watching over the holidays and I was really pleasantly surprised at the level of discussion, only because the show doesn’t receive much mainstream press. Way more depth and less grandstanding than something like The View, even on topics that would be considered relatively trivial. And Loni Love is really great at playing devil’s advocate.
  3. Well, at least Sally got to tell Chloe and Chelsea where to shove it today.
  4. Yeah, that sounds about right. It’s a “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” but not for the obvious reason. Plus, they’ve already dealt with Kristina’s bisexuality.
  5. This Craig/Nancy stuff is pathetic and embarrassing.
  6. I get the sense they’re at least testing audience reaction with some very overt plays at sexual tension. Whoever mentioned Alexis in the “late-in-life coming out” thread was on to something. I think NLG would do well in such a story.
  7. Even the people who “like” Sally treat her with disdain or at best like a yappy child who needs to be scolded (Chloe, Adam). This is a 30-something woman, not a precocious teenager.
  8. I was getting some sexytime vibes between her and Alexis.

  11. It’s so one-note. I know she’s a lot and her own worst enemy, but so is Phyllis, and people don’t go around telling her she’s a piece of sh!t all the time. Can’t she have one decent friend? Otherwise just go all out and make her a total rip-roaring bitch.
  12. Yeah, me. The early ‘90s were top notch but oof, did things fall apart circa ‘93-94. 1997 was also great, but again, mess afterwards. The ‘80s also felt a bit all over the place. 2000s had some good stuff and some awful, unprofessional stuff.
  13. The 1990s were indeed tough because so many shows had great highs and abysmal lows. GH had the some of the highest highs of all time in the ‘90s while Y&R was great but also steady. For me, the toughest call is the 2000s. The last gasp for most shows. I’d also say GH simply on the strength of its day-to-day writing staff and production values, but the quality was largely so poor across the board as to be a meaningless call. Same with DAYS in the 2010s. Upon rewatch, my favorite soap of the ‘80s is probably ATWT (very layered and rich) with GH, OLTL, and AMC all up there. ‘70s probably Y&R (so lush and innovative), AW, or OLTL. It’s so weird that my second favorite soap probably wouldn’t top any of these lists (GL). Too erratic. Haven’t had the opportunity to watch much ‘70s GL due to availability obvs, aside from all the 1979 stuff.
  14. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto boots Adele from No. 1:
  15. Does someone behind the scenes hate Courtney Hope? They love to write someone sh!tting on, talking crazy, or condescending to Sally, whether it’s Chloe, Chelsea, or Adam (and previously it was Phyllis, Jack, Summer, Kyle, Nikki, Victor, and Tara).
  16. It’s bad. I was very curious as to why Trina completely disappeared after being *drugged* and feeling poorly, while her besties and love interest behaved as if she didn’t exist. Not even Esme checked on her to see how her nefarious plans were working, if I recall correctly. I was baffled, but saw the online outcry and felt validated. Beyond even the bad optics, it’s nonsensical.
  17. So they’re chem-testing Chelsea with Chance and Rey?
  18. I wonder if she did a “What Have I Done to Deserve This?”-type collaboration with someone like Disclosure (or a hip-hop act like Megan Thee Stallion), she might pull off a rare modern-day hit. I feel like there’s a current drumbeat and visibility with younger audiences that she could take advantage of. I’ve liked Justin’s music over the years, but I think he should probably stick to acting these days.
  19. Lol. And those were the two deaths that, if they were undone, most viewers would happily look the other way, as they were so ill-advised.
  20. Yeah, a death on DAYS isn’t worth much consideration based on recent experience (which is one reason why the show feels so frivolous). I know Paige’s death has stuck, but that’s a rare exception that could easily be undone per the show’s inconsistent rules. GH is much more prone to letting deaths stick. I agree on Maxie. But these shows will always go for the big gesture that will win them a short-term viewership boost that will please the bosses or an Emmy here or there. It would also seem silly to bring Felicia/KW back on contract for that.
