  1. There's certainly plenty of guys thrown away by the other soaps in recent years who would fit the bill. The choice may help us see what direction the show is going in...
  2. Maybe after all that mess about the supposed original story plans for Jason's return that would have Morgan returning from the dead, those plans are fully on ice.
  3. I guess they were smart to be able to get money for that without having to do feet pics.
  4. This reminds me of when Cheryl Ferguson after being killed off EastEnders kept going to the press trying to get hired. Didn't really work for her either. This is probably around the time actors turn to OnlyFans.
  5. It would be great to see AJ with the new Michael.
  6. The only real interest in Brennan seemed to be down to those who liked Charles Measure. They could have Chris McKenna take off his shirt off a lot more, but it probably wouldn't help with the writing, or how uninteresting most of her pairings are. If this were a British soap they probably would randomly make Carly a lesbian by this point.
  7. Congratulations to the divine Lynne (and she also won the Silver).
  8. Madonna Honors Late Superfans With 'Dress You Up' 40th Anniv. Bundle
  9. He reminds me a little of a younger John O'Hurley.
  10. Enjoying your rundowns of the show @I Am A Swede That big gap in 1976 and 1977 does seem odd. Another sign of just how careless ITV was with the Farm years (and has always been with the show). Airing episodes months out of date always confuses me - around 1979 or 1980 they air Christmas panto episodes months late.
  11. I love it. Just change "to a restaurant" to "to a continent."
  12. That's kind of you to say. That's Cord's mother, who has a complicated backstory that isn't too worth getting into. She fell in love with Clint again and her jealousy of Viki, along with her deep loathing of Tina, made her go batshit. I agree that as 1992 goes along the show is more confident in itself, shaking off some of the trappings Malone and Gottlieb inherited.
  13. Will the next big special event involve Lily singing this to Cane?
  14. Hulk Hogan’s legacy isn’t complicated As the centerpiece to Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation, Hogan became a household name and the driving force behind pro wrestling breaking into the mainstream. There’s a world in which Hogan’s obituaries end at his wrestling accolades. But this won’t. Because Hulk Hogan is a self-admitted racist who was caught on tape using the N-word freely on multiple occasions and also dreading the idea that his son’s arrest could mean that the two could be reincarnated as Black men. When that is part of your legacy, it becomes singularly defining. As a result, Hulk Hogan died being known a racist who also became famous as a professional wrestler. He only has himself to blame for that.
  15. I give Malone credit for trying to bring that aspect back with Angel Square in 1995. I wish the others at the show from then on had not moved away from what he was setting up. Which period of OLTL would you say had a creative upswing in the late '00s? I haven't gone back to rewatch, but if memory serves I'd go about mid 2007 to early 2008.
  16. That's not to say there weren't some good patches here and there, or that the other soaps in those years were leaving OLTL in the dust (they weren't). I just think OLTL was created with a very specific purpose, which when moved away from they almost never found again. "Cartini" choosing to use the 40th anniversary for stale camp and a rapemance instead of remembering the roots of what Agnes Nixon, Gordon Russell, Doris Quinlan, etc. had done to make OLTL so unique spoke volumes on what many at the show by then seemed to think its legacy was.
  17. I definitely didn't think you were slighting the cast. I do agree about the overall show. I think there was a weird format which some broke through but many just couldn't, especially the parade of ingenues (even though I did have a soft spot for some, like Brenda). OLTL should have been a much more layered show. It's a shame that other than a year or two in the early '90s, it never was again after '81 or so.
  18. That's a good point, although I'm trying to remember how good the visual looks were on JFP soaps after GL.
  19. Thanks for letting us know. The scripted court show is a lost era (and more interesting than all the People's Court/Judge Judy sister and brother shows). It's hard to find these episodes and even harder to find info on them, as you can see from the shambolic IMDB entries. I hope someone out there can start sorting out dates, casts, etc.
  20. They seem to have scraped through another year. I hope they will keep some of the positives of this year (like Emmett) and learn from some mistakes (stop the endless Esther focus). https://www.stuff.co.nz/culture/360777718/shortland-street-return-2026-nz-air-funding
  21. There's some, but that's mostly down to certain performers. Andrea Evans often manages to find heart and sincerity in very daffy and selfish stories. I think Clint Ritchie does too, in the Old West story. And Erika does a good job making the stroke story believable. Jessica Tuck may have been the ideal actress for that period as she can play the roughness yet bring the vulnerability.
