That used to annoy me to no end in the late '90s and the '00s, but the later versions with even the characters knowing how absurd the constant use is do amuse me.

If I had to guess, I'd say the show or the network thought he was too goofy and not a leading man. It's always easier for a soap to tell a story about a stalwart man and an out-of-control woman, and that's what we got once lap dance Rachel arrived. I'd still love to know what went on with the Kevin recasts. If the idea was Geiger being too short, Armstrong was certainly taller, but not much else. I wonder if they were told Geiger was being let go by the network, were at a loss, and someone remembered Jack Armstrong for how good he looked in Speedos on Eden (Diana Barton was also cast on Y&R around this time so clearly someone in soapworld was a fan). Armstrong's assets would have been put to better use on OLTL about 15 years later, but not in 1994. It takes a lot for me to say an actor was much better as a performer on a softcore Playboy soap than on OLTL or his previous flop stint on AMC, but Armstrong genuinely was. Not just in the expected, but even his acting. Maybe he was better in his primetime work than on soaps...I have not watched any of that.

Thanks @Paul Raven I could see Morgan being OK, even if it's odd imagining her doing martial arts, but van Dusen bored the hell out of me on Y&R and PC. Not sure how his primetime work fared.

ARTICLE: ‘Big Brother’ Winner Rachel Reilly Reprising Role On ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’
Nice to see another BB fan on here (I think most either quit the board or the show...). Rachel certainly deserves the gig after carrying the first half of the season on her back.

She and her husband were extremely wealthy. She had multiple VCRs and constantly taped and kept the tapes in storage facilities. As time passed, she left her house less and less frequently. There were 6 hour and 8 hour tapes, although I'm not sure if there were when she started taping.

Unfortunately, those are the people who run the country and own the press. They will eat this up. And anyone who doesn't will nod and move along, as always. I haven't seen it getting much attention aside from people who are having a few laughs at him going on about Nordics.

Thanks @Soaplovers ! Here's another pilot on their channel I'd never heard about - an Invisible Man pilot with Kyle Maclachlan.

That's the best description of what shifted. I do respect Marland not taking John too far over the edge, because the story that was going on under early Marland where he was obsessing over Sierra could have easily gone that route (I remember Ryan's Hope having a similar story and I think it ended with Roger Coleridge nearly raping a woman [and John did have that history]). Still, much as I bemoan daytime of recent decades where so many "good" characters go around murdering or attempted murdering, I would have enjoyed seeing John in a more aggressive role during James' return.

ALL: AI logos for the soaps
The GL logo is such a good trip back to their '50s and '60s openings but could still work for today.

I didn't think Wright was very believable as a stripper - admittedly most who are cast on soaps aren't going to be - but I didn't have a problem with her as an underdog. Wright had a very hard energy, and it just got harder as the show went along. The show rarely let Cassie be an underdog, but when they did, I thought Wright sold it, even in stories I thought were bad and unbelievable (like the forced estrangement from Reva after Richard died). I think Rauch just didn't care very much about Vanessa. I know he later went off on "Matessa" fans for being entitled, but his anger there seemed to be about how much he'd done for them as a couple. As a character, he did sweet [!@#$%^&*] all for Vanessa. Wasn't there a claim on here that Cassie was intended to be a major rival for Reva but Kim wanted them to not be at odds? I would guess that Watros made it known well in advance that she was leaving. As for fans who were upset that Dinah was being ruined to prop other characters, all I have to say is:

There was also a lot of backlash from fans, which I don't think "Cartini" had expected. He was then killed (again) off not that long after.

Thanks as always @Maxim Based on Tonja's forceful personality, I can easily see a director asking her to tone it down and Tonja saying, "NO!" The Dorian and Sloan clip (I almost typed Suede - he was probably more up Dorian's alley) is interesting. Flirtation, but she's also trying to sniff out info. I was trying to figure out if Renee had feelings for him and was getting jealous. Imagine a Renee/Asa pairing. Asa and Sloan, pistols at dawn.

ALL: Returns That Fizzled
Taylor also had a confused, ill-fated return to AMC where she reunited with Cliff (again) only for him to be "killed," then he came back, but she was with Matt, then he left again, and she left again. The story is very drab, and Taylor lacks chemistry with Michael Tylo (as many did aside from Lisa Brown), although from what I saw Taylor did her best. I remember reading somewhere that when Taylor was asked back in 1989, she was disappointed to learn it was just for Cliff's rushed exit. And other than various guest appearances, that was it for the character. It seemed like the show just gave up on Nina after using her so heavily in the '80s, instead starting over from scratch with Palmer and Opal. I think if they'd tried, they could have found a new chapter for her without Cliff, but I guess they felt she was used up.
