I know this episode is already available but if anyone wanted a recording made at the time, one was uploaded last month.

Someone put this up a month ago. I looked and couldn't find this episode online, although I may have missed it. A few little bits are familiar but that may just be down to usual soap repetition. There's a fun short scene at about 6 minutes where John winds Lisa up over Lucinda dating Ralph Mitchell (or as John describes him to Lisa, "a relative of some ex-husband, some marriage you can't even remember"). Lisa blows her top. This episode (Bob and Kim's vow renewal) is up, in parts, and has been for many years, but the opening, with Andy reading, is new! Going through this I am shocked by the ending, which has various Oakdale couples in bed or on the floor, some just talking, some...not talking. Compare that to soaps now, where most love scenes feel like an afterthought, however few there are. ATWT had a reputation for stodginess for a long time (which is probably one of the reasons for the disastrous choice to turn the show into soft porn in the mid '90s), but as you see here, the show did have a sensuality and sexuality, it just wasn't one they clubbed viewers with. @Soapsuds @rsclassicfanforever @MarlandFan

It's sort of heaven and hell because without Long I'm not sure how long (no pun intended) Vanessa would have stayed on the canvas. Yet I can see where she didn't quite do the best by the character - she was treated as a B-character.

Beverlee and Jordan had some good chemistry around the time of the affair reveal, it could have worked. I'd be interested in a story where instead of revealing the affair with Mindy/Roger to Billy, Alex decides to stay quiet and seduce him, knowing that would really hurt Mindy (and piss Roger off), then maybe she develops feelings for him along the way. There'd also be good material for Vanessa and how that would strain her relationship with Alex - I could see her being the one to tell Billy the full truth, as she feels she has no choice. I know Nadine was involved with Billy at this point in the story but fond as I am of Nadine I know she could have easily been moved out of the plot.

I saw someone speculating that he was Peter August, which would probably be even worse (and makes me glad Maxie isn't on at the moment).

I have been thinking the last few days about bringing in a son for Evan Walsh, for little to no reason, and then killing him off. Didn't he blow himself up or something? Did they ever say anything about why they brought him on? Did he ever even have any background? Didn't they also bring on a son for Emily at this time and do nothing with him?

The only part that entertained me was Jason getting a closeup view of what the family had to deal with for so long with him. I don't mind them dragging the story out if they had more grounds, but instead it just feels stalled out.

At least they didn't have Sonny and Carly attend the service. They did have Jason make sure we knew not to blame Sonny, but that's standard practice. I'm glad they included Felicia - and the flashback could also be used to remind of her current worries for Maxie.

@Vee I appreciated your rundown. I do wish we could get the alternate universe of the Blair/Cord story, or Andrew/Megan, etc. So much built on impending cast changes. The ins and outs with Stephanie and how they are transitioning Kevin are also interesting (maybe moreso than they are onscreen). Actually hearing in detail about family and personal treasures lost makes the Llanfair fire feel more real than most soap fires where everything goes back to normal and the same head shots are put back on the same tables. It's also a clever way to hint at the unraveling of the family.

I am not sure of everyone but I think she also cut Larry, Charlene, and Colton. And Edge, although I guess he was never long-term, I don't know. Did she write Cheryl out or was Cheryl already gone by then? (I know she comes back to die under Riche)

What Monty didn't seem to get was the stories and characters which made early EE take off. The early episodes focused on atmosphere, grittiness and reality, but the lower-end razzle-dazzle of Angie and Den captivated many. The show leaned into that while still presenting the stories with tragedy and honesty. Introducing a dull family and their bakery while dumping or downgrading a ton of the cast wasn't going to have the same effect, class issue buzzwords or not.

I wish we could vote for flashbacks. I would vote for the one from 1998 when Danny was trying to win her heart and got her a large stuffed animal in the shape of a cricket. Christine was...less than thrilled.

I agree, but I wonder if the show intends for them to be the same.

I wonder if it is meant to be dramatically potent that he and Britt have the same story (the show sees them as the same I mean as they see Rocco as Britt's son). I saw a bit where James told Cody that sometimes he wishes Cody was his father. Josh Kelly played that moment beautifully, but it also made me feel really sad for Spinelli (and I'm not exactly a Spinelli fan), as Spinelli has had that role for a while now.

I saw someone tweeting about their disappointment with Monica's passing thus far. Some I have already said myself (they should have had flashbacks with old actors even if the parts have been recast). Some I hadn't thought of - like Anna and Felicia not getting any reaction. I didn't know that Monica was a bridesmaid for Robert and Anna (I can't even picture that).

Yes, his wife and daughters joined the song. I saw someone saying Lin Manuel Miranda is Dawson-coded, which amused me.

Starting around 10-11 minutes in this Locher Room episode about fans who name their kids after soap characters, there's an ATWT segment. A man talks about how he watched ATWT when he was a kid and loved Sierra - he knew when he grew up, he would want to name his daughter Sierra. And he did. They also interviewed a fan and her daughter, the daughter named after Margaret Colin. Colin herself briefly appears as a surprise guest. @DramatistDreamer You might enjoy the Sierra part.

James could not be there (he sent in a video message - he's clearly not well but his spirit seems very strong). Lin Manuel Miranda filled in for him.
