PASSIONS: Back to the good ol' days?

I agree JSF-I think it is back but it is still not close to what it was. The identity of the show is coming back and it is improving.

As for the rehashing, every soap rehashes but I wouldn't call alot of this rehashing. It is more like JER taking what worked and trying it with different characters and different spins and that is where JER is exercising some creativity. I agree that we should wait until at least October before declaring that Passions is back to the level it once was but I don't know if you will ever get that back. No show will ever be the same so this may be the closest you get which is fine by me because I am loving the show except for Kay's stupid memory crap and the subsequent triangle.

They are on the right track with the new stories and pairings and I do think the improvement is due to JER being here full force which is why I think the next 2-3 months will be telling to see if they can sustain this like they they did in 1999-2001.

If Passions is supposed to be better, why is Whitney still stuck with Chad? These two are disgusting. They slept together believing they were siblings and have stunk up the show every since. Why have everyone moved on to new partners but Whitney? Did the actress do something to JER, because he seems to have a Vendetta against her? LOL

Seriously. I've seen the Chad actor "act," and he's the worst on the show. So why does she get to be stuck with him? I hardly think her fans, if she has any remaining, would think Passions is better if she's still stuck in the same place with the worst "actor" on the show.

Would TC fans think Passions is better?

Would Ivy fans think Passions is better?

Would Sam fans think Passions is better?

People, let's face it. The show is junk with a big fat black (pun intended) incest hole sitting in the middle.

OMG. *You* disagree? I'm shocked. I--I'm shaking. This is so unexpected.

Please, don't use buzzwords and propaganda if you want to debate. Everyone knows I "disagree." Let's try something else.

Exactly, Phoenix. And I agree; it isn't rehashing so much as it's recycling what worked and using it in different ways for different characters. Personally, I like it.

Um, incest is gone. You knew that right?

As for Chadney, I'm not one of their fans but, evidently, the show gets a LOT of fan mail for them because JER said he undid the incest just for those fans.

TC fans...who cares? He wasn't one of the big characters anyway. but for those who missed him, yeah, I'm sure the fans agree they're glad just to see him on screen again.

As for the Ivy and Sam fans that you mentioned, again, who cares ?People should judge soaps as ensembles. There are too many variables when you judge by characters. For instance, I think Ivy shoudl be rich again and not be some stupid poor homebody. But that's just my opinion, and I'm content with just SEEING her, which we didn't, during Vendetta. The same goes for Sam.

As for the show being junk...haha...not true.

At this jucture, however, I'd like to point out that the whole point of this thread wasn't to say it got 'better' (which I believe it has), but more to say, you know what? The ones who say this is like 'classic' Passions are RIGHT. No two ways about it -- because the same stories and elements are being recycled. So that should end that debate.

The good vs. bad show debate is another one altogether.

JER must have a Jones for Divins because he is the worst soap actor I have ever seen. Dud & Whitney are the worse soap couple ever. And people say Shuis have lost faith in each other and shouldn't be together but Whitney had no faith that Dud wasn't her brother and tried to kill their spawn But that has all been swept under the rug and everything is a ok again now that Dud and Whitney are fluck buddies. And someone better not tell me that Dud and Whitney have more fans than Shuis.

I doubt that they have more fans than Shuis -- dear God, I hope not! -- but they do have lots of fans outside of SON. Hey, it shocked me, too!

This isn't classic Passions. I don't think classic Passions will ever be back because the Passions I remember from 1999 to 2001 was a show that had promise, potential, and had stories that seemed to be heading in a direction where there would be huge events and major consequences. The Good versus Evil storyline was a big one: Faith, Charity, Grace versus Tabitha. The witch burning flashbacks. All that is lost now and the show doesn't seem interested in bringing it back. Maybe I have just outgrown it, but I don't think so.

The show has just proven it doesn't have a storyline and resolve it and move the characters in a different direction. They just do loops around the race track. Sure, the first 18-month loop was fun, but once it got back to the same point again, it was useless.

Will Tabitha ever be revealed to be a witch? I would tune it for that storyline, and I hope it involves Grace and Charity. THAT is soap I'd love to see.

Oh, wow, Andre, I can agree that new stories with real resolution need to crop up -- and that be a recurring thing -- but about Tabitha being outed as a witch? Even in '99, I felt that would never happen until the series' last episode, lol. I mean, how could it happen? That's the show's biggest secret--and yeah, little by little, some of the harmonites have learned the truth, but not the ones that need to. That is, not the ones that would kill Tabitha or shoo her out of town. I don't know...I just don't think this is like the movie "Practical Magic" where the witches would be accepted. THey burned them at the stake in Harmony past and I believe they would be just as unwelcoming today.

Passions' "series finale" will probably involve a grand showdown between Tabitha and Charity, with Tabby being destroyed after Charity and Miguel make love and she comes into her full powers.

That SHOULD happen, but it won't.

That would've happened before the current state of the show. But now, I think Tabitha will probably get stuck in a snowglobe if they even stage a finale battle between good and evil.

No, this isn't the Passions that it should be, but a rehash isn't the answer. A continuation of the stories from the first 3-4 years of the show is what's needed, not the same exact stories with different characters (and in some cases, the same character by name and name only).

Wow, people are really complaining about Passions, and I just don't see the reason or need for it.

I don't know why anyone would want to go back to the days of sloooooooooooooow storylines and non-sensical, repetitive dialogue that explained everyone's relationship to each other, and constant flashbacks. And do I need to remind you again about the snail's pace?

Passions has been on a role for the past 2 and a half years now, when old storylines were actually wrapped up and resolved.

For example,

-Eve's past was fully revealed

-Chad turned out to be the Eve/Julian child (more on that later)

-The secret of TC's shed was revealed, with a new twist

-The reasons for Martin's disappearance were revealed

-The reasons for Sheridan's nightmares were explained

-Beth was exposed for kidnapping Sheridan and stealing Marty

-Simone came out as a lesbian

-Julian's shooter was revealed

-Liz was revealed as Alistair's attempted murderer

-Noah's past with Maya and the Dragon Lady was resolved

-Little Ethan turned out to be Ethan's biological child

-Chad and Whitney found out they weren't related and reunited

The only lingering secrets are Grace/Ivy/David, the tabloid, Theresa telling Ethan about their son, and the Evian child, which may or may not be revisited, as indicated by Eve and Julian's dialogue after learning Chad wasn't their son. Oh, and I guess the story about Jessica being a serial killer is still unresolved, but I don't think any of us care about that.

Passions has finally resolved old stories and started new ones in the past few months:

-The Siren/Fox/Kay/Miguel quad

-Luis and Fancy

-Theresa and Jared

-Eve/TC/Rebecca/Julian has restarted with a new twist (TC's depression, and Rebecca "giving up" on Jules)

-Alistair is "dead", so a lot of the evil has disappeared from Harmony

-Simone and Rae's relationship has restarted, with the possibility of a triangle with Paloma

Passions is right on track, and as long as the supernatural and campiness continue to be at the forefront, and stories don't drag out too long, and new things happen, then I don't see why anyone is complaining.

Passions rules all! :D

I don't know...while tabitha's evil she's also lovable. That's why I always thought the series finale would be that Tabitha turns good and is accepted into Heaven....with Timmy. :)

Passions has been on a roll for 2.5 years? The last two years have been the show's worst years, and they have the ratings to prove it.

That SHOULD happen, but it won't.

From a non-fan of PASSIONS(watched the first three months), I still think it will end with either the entire audience being pissed off because coupled ended up together that ultimately were not supposed to in the mass audience's eyes(i.e. Ethan/Gwen, Fancy/Luis, etc.) or Reilly leaving the show as one big cliffhanger.

I obviously don't agree. See my previous post for my reasons.
