DAYS:Can it finally rid itself of the almost-incest?

Something i noticed as soon as I started watching DAYS was that it liked to walk the fine line of incest. I dunno who decided to make everyone in the town related, but it's hurt a lot of chances for certain couplings and then in some instances ie: Max and Chelsea it was pretty much ignored. Related by blood or not, dating your niece is weird. Even Chelsea makes a reference to the incest of the town. I felt like that might be a jab at certain past writers...

The writers over time have felt the need to make EVERYONE a Brady..it's ridiculous.

Well it's brought up, at least, in today's show. When Chelsea is relieved to find out Stephanie is Max's niece, Abby reminds her that she is too. Neither by blood. Chelsea's response is "this stupid town is so incestuous."

I wish they'd move away from it too. They desperately need a new family in Salem.

I hate how half the cast are now Bradys, too. It's over-the-top. After Cassie was revealed to be Roman's daughter, there were seriously like five men (Brady, Patrick, Jack, Tek, John) she could've dated without it being actual incest. Which is ridiculous.

I also don't understand the refusal to pair Max with the one female in his age range to whom he's NOT related -- Abby.

There are clearly not enough families in Salem. Hopefully once the writers cut some staff out for budgeting purposes, slowly they can begin adding new characters who are not related to anyone. I was happy about EJ coming on the show because at first I thought he wasn't related to anyone in Salem, and now it appears, that probably isn't true.

The show definitely needs an infusion of characters that are not tied to anyone in any way on the show. I was hoping EJ was not going to be tied to anyone too, and I think that is the reason I liked him so much in the beginning.

It is sad that most shows have the problem where there are way too many unconnected folks and the majority have no history with one another. On Days they have taken it too far to the other extreme.

That is another reason (as I said in another post) that I don't feel the DiMera's should come back right now. The DiMera's particularly Stefano have just as much history with the show as everyone else. And so much of it has already been explored to death (except for the real reason behind the Brady-DiMera feud).

I mean when you have all the couples who have been together for so long, and then everyone being related - you need an infusion of new blood to stir things up.

Days failed big time with the Lockhart family. They were on the right track with EJ but I am afraid they are going to mess it up too.

And it is sad that ever new female character in the last 5 years (except for Bonnie) has ended up being a Brady: Cassie, then Chelsea, and now Stephanie (who is not really a new character but new to almost everyone since she was a baby when she left).

Patrick is the only new male character in quite some time that was not a Brady.

This show needs a new family and it needs more Hortons!

gezz...at this rate, they will move the Christmas Tree decoration party to the Brady Pub.

That has been a huge problem for DAYS for many years. Lucas, for example, didn't need to be a Horton. Except for a few scenes here and there, he doesn't acknowledge he is one, and hardly shares scenes with Jennifer, Hope, Shawn-D, Alice, etc. The writers, if they choose to, can still undo this. It wouldn't be far-fetched to have a story where it turns out Lucas is Stefano's son, or fathered by one of Kate's johns.

The biggest blunder was when Hackley made Cassie and Rex Bradys to pimp her Roman/Kate coupling. I'm sure C&B were going to make the twins Tony and Marlena's, before they were canned and Hackley came on. In the end, it ended up being a waste. JER dissolved Rate, and there is really no chance of a reconciliation.

EJ came and disappeared so quickly. We need him back on, and we need him to NOT be a Brady or a Horton. The writers also need to dump this burgeoning Chelsea/Max/Stephanie triangle and pair up Max and Abby, and also stop Sami, Lucas, Carrie, and Austin from swapping siblings.

One idea might be to bring on Justin and Adrienne's kids, Victor, Joseph, Jackson, and Alexander, Justin's son with Anjelica Deveraux. They're at the right age to be in the group with Max, Chelsea, Abby, Shawn, Belle, Mimi, Philip, even Sami, Carrie, Lucas, and Austin. Since Justin is a Kirakis and Adrienne a Johnson, any of those boys could be paired up with Chelsea, Sami, Mimi, Belle (if she and Philip split (or Carrie (not Abby or Stephanie since they're cousins) and it would inject some freshness into the show without having to rely on brand new characters.

They could also bring back Greta and Nicholas Alamain as well. DAYS needs to build up their twentysomethings with characters that have no real relation to the other ones.

Well, if we're talking about Max, then I don't mind.

If we're talking about all of the others, then yeah. ITA.

Justin and Adrienne boys couldn't be possible lovers for the Chelsea character because Chelsea is a kiriakis also, Victor is her grandfather and their uncle.

I'm still not convinced Chelsea is Bo and Billie's daughter. That's my wishful thinking!

thats what I hate about the Days family trees. Even when you think its okay to pair 2 people up they end up having some type of connection anyway!

Thats why I thought Nicole leaving the show was a stupid idea. She had no ties to the Brady's or Horton's, and I would have loved seeing Austin come back for Nicole and have a Carrie/Nicole/Austin triangle. Just something fresh, Austin she never be going after Sami, how dumb is he? Can you imagine a Nicole and EJ pairing, talk about HOT! Come back Ari, JER is gone!

What about Jeremy Horton? He must be all grown up by now...

Or Noelle Curtis?

Or Melissa and her husband's kid (haven't they implied that she is married? So she can have a SORASed kid!) Or maybe Faith and Scotty had a child.

Or maybe Marcus dies and it turns out he had gotten married and had a kid, and his kid comes to live in Salem.

Reading the Early Edition for tomorrow I was reminded that Carrie has now been married or almost married to Lucas, and two of his brothers, none of whom have the same parents..
