IMO, Peter Reckell has always been decent/good.  Not great, not going to win emmys, but a solid Days lead.  He was just so off today.  He must be rusty or trying something as a brain washed guy.  But I don't remember brainwashed Bo from the 2000's being this awkward.

@SoapsudsI literally thought the same thing about Paul/Andrew.  Can't Paul go anywhere to coach?  If he was specifically tied to a University perhaps, but it seemed like he was coaching a minor league team from the dialogue, which I think could have more flexibility.

Belle/MM are bland, but it was a better bland performance than usual lol

BTW, wouldn't you love to travel like they do on a soap?

John flew from Salem to the west coast for about an hour, had a beer with his son, and then went back home.

Andrew spent the day at his office, then flew cross country (without luggage), and was able to catch Paul before he went to sleep.

Of course, nobody ever needs a ride to the airport, connecting flights, or even a laptop to watch a movie.  And when you arrive, no need to text your loved ones, they're sure to be home waiting for you with a cold cocktail.

To be fair, minor league coaching is apparently so demanding that Paul had to leave Marlena's funeral early in order to get back to his team (that plays baseball in February?)

Paul's excuse just doesn't make any sense to me. My cousin is a coach and he moves around. His wife got relocated due to her job and he got a coaching job where she was relocated to.

During MM scenes I kept thinking who could replace her in the role.

I thought the same but I remember what Will said that a lot of family showed up. We never saw the funeral so we don't know who supposedly showed up. But if Paul had gone to the funeral why was he giving his dad condolences for Marlena's death? Tells me he didn't bother to show up.

Any other blonde that's 40 in Hollywood?  My hate for MM's Belle and Belle in general knows no bounds, but I did like her today and with Brady the other day.

I think the subtitle actually had the ........ too

My brother is a football/sports trainer for a big University and he has a contract and does work with other athletes as a trainer in other sports, so if they explained it more in that vein it would make sense.  It sounds like he's coaching the San Jose AAA Flyers in winter on this though.

Paul specifically mentioned that he was at the funeral, he was just checking in to see how John was doing currently

Also, realistically, wouldn't Paul seem like a bit of psycho if he moved to DC to start a relationship with a guy that was a casual hookup while on a vacation adventure?

Yes, he actually would be a psycho to do that lol.  But...it's a little rash to call the whole romance off without giving it a try because of distance when it seems like Paul's situation might be a little more adaptable or fluid than Andrew's.

Is that Terri Conn?  Isn't she busy selling Tupperware on home shopping?

I mean it's not Salem where they only allow a maximum of four gay men to live in town at the same time.  Paul lives in San Fransisco and Andrew in DC where there are tons of options that are more geographically desirable.

Re Peter, a friend texted me and wanted to know why he was acting like the court jester, lol.  He was a bit off but hoping he was just trying to portray that Bo isn't totally himself.

Some people have weird hang-ups I guess - it's like when someone doesn't have Hollywood perfect pearly whites there's always a bunch of people freaking out

    • Yes I was watching AW during that time, but I was very young.  So might have missed the references you mentioned. The late 1960s and early 1970s would have been during the Nixon and Cenedella head-writing eras.  Assuming you are correct, I'm quite surprised (and disappointed) Harding Lemay did not continue the Michigan references.  Especially since he was raised in a far northern region of a northern state, very very near the Canadian border. And I know he loved writing (either directly or indirectly) about his upbringing in that region. Perhaps no one in the studio ever told Lemay about the Michigan connection.  Who knows??  But I'm sure Lemay would have had a field-day playing all those Michigan references, which would have made his AW even more believable and relevant than it already was.  Such a missed opportunity!!
    • To me, there were some weaker writers on ATWT in the 1980s pre-Marland, but starting in 2000, the advent of the show's associated with Hogan Sheffer and Jean Passanante, the quality plummeted and remained in the toilet for the show's remaining years. It's amazing that so many actors were still able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I just don't think KMS was one of them.
    • Off camera so we could be surprised today.
    • What was most frustrating, is that RTPP was weakly written at the beginning and remained tedious for what seemed months on end. Then, in its last stretch, it suddenly perked right up and turned itself around significantly. Unfortunately, by that time NBC was fully committed to How to Survive a Marriage, and went ahead and cancelled the flourishing RTPP in favor of HTSAM.  Ironically, history repeated itself. HTSAM was dreadfully written in its opening months. NBC fairly quickly gave up on it and changed its time slot to compete with the ratings powerhouse ATWT. Wouldn't you know it, NBC hired Rick Edelstein to take over the writing reigns and the quality soared. It turned into a rich, layered, deep psychological drama along the lines of Harding Lemay's Another World. Alas, NBC axed this newly-shining soap too.

    • 100% this. Murder, She Wrote deserved to have a proper final season farewell on Angela Lansbury's terms after all she did for CBS primetime. Sadly Les Moonves denied us this. In a way Angela did call everyone out through the episodes that shaded both Friends and CBS.  Angela did not give a f--- about being elegant and classy with her shade. She was hurt and rightfully so and I don't blame her for reacting the way she did. It was difficult to watch when Angela tore up and it made me sad and angry.
    • I have a long-time friend with whom I used to watch soaps religiously when we were kids. When I told him about SON recently, I suggested that he jump into the forums so he could join the discussions about vintage daytime TV. He was incredulous that this TGL thread alone was up to a whopping 1183 pages. He asked, "How much can anyone even talk about a long-cancelled soap that much?!?" Then I reminded him that he has brought up the topic of The Guiding Light EVERY SINGLE TIME he has phoned me in the last 50 years!

So, he became sheepish and embarrassed, but relieved to know he's not alone in is undying love for his favorite show. TGL community rocks!
    • B&B is flailing along with one pointless plot after another. I could care less Liam is "dying". Having Sheila suddenly become Mother Theresa is ridiculous and they are obviously painting Luna into a corner which is stupid. Why get her pardoned only to have her basically repeat the same thing? I just don't get it. I love the location shoots, but why bring back Nick, without Jack??? B&B needs to build the next generation because it's just stale at this point and that makes me sad.
    • For novelizations that were promoted as being "based on the actual scripts," the Soaps & Serials books were weakly written, missing major details, and didn't really adhere to the source material. I bought them all when the company lunched, but was quickly disappointed by what I was reading. I wasn't surprised when S&S folded. I sold all my copies on eBay.
    • Did they show Nina telling Ric about the Sasha secret, or did that happen off-camera? I was surprised at the curves they were having Emma show today in her bikini!
