As lackluster and overused as this is, I find that after watching the "classic" from 2014, RC Cates' compositions have improved melodically in recent years as opposed to the JFP trashcan of cues they started using in 2013. Still lacks the punch of the Allocco-Kurtz-Davidson cues from 1984-2002.

On the note of Alloco-Kurtz cues, I really didn't care for the compositions from the MAB era. They made scenes sound super campy and this one in particular below at the end of the scene is one I could never stand.

Constant writer turnover can really destroy the foundations of a soap. Bad enough to have one horrid writer dismantle all that had preceded. Of course, it’s good that some things are forgotten, a la Eddie Winslow Winters.

Wonder how he felt about the scene of John punching the living daylights out of Victor?

TLW quoted MAB:

What a mess. Right after that Tyra debacle too. They even brought on Nate to do nothing at all, while Devon dated Tatyana Ali for six years and she only appeared like five episodes a year.

I'm basically over blaming Braeden for all of the problems the show has had with how Victor is written, but sometimes I do wonder (and this is going to sound terrible and I apologize in advance) when the time comes and Braeden is gone, how many actors are gonna come forward and admit things constantly had to be changed in the script because he didn't want Victor to lose, in any way.....including allowing other characters to physically attack him more then they did...

I'm at least thankful Bill Bell got the final say in this scene with Cole!

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
    • She’s INCREDIBLE. I’m so glad you enjoyed this my friend.
