Y&R to air classic episodes

Oh I'd absolutely show Neil and Dru's Japanese wedding. That wasn't boring IMO. I hope the overall choices are strong. I can't wait to see what they'll air for that.

It's a shame they can't do a week for Olivia because I'd love to see the episode where she confronts Keesha again.

That’s more a B&B problem. Y&R can do a wedding that’s interesting, but I watched B&B’s wedding week and it’s the typical boring ass wedding you expect. Ridge and Brooke’s first wedding spent a segment just of characters taking photos. I couldn’t believe how drama free it was lol.

Well well well looks like CBS has ended paying Victoria Rowell after all.

I kid. But I can't wait! I never got to see Neil/Dru/Malcolm/Olivia in their heyday. I agree with @Chris B, their Japanese wedding would be fantastic to see.

I agree. These two are what got me into Y&R. Katherine/Jill were always a stable of Y&R for me.

I agree, the choices could be more cohesive

Precisely. Alex Donnelly was sublime in the role. I also thought Maura West was horrible as Diane. She's a good actress, but she was not even close to being Diane. That was more of a Y&R castings mistake

This is the most of Y&R's past I've ever seen in a regular sustained experience. What a gift.

I hope the networks rethink their libraries over the course of what is set to be a very long year.

Maura was just wrooooong. Great actress but a dreadful miscast.

For some reason, Nikki’s line “...And doing things you weren’t supposed to do!” always makes me laugh. Seems like MTS flubbed her line but they let it slide because the scene was otherwise so amazing. Diane banging Nikki’s head into the table is just a level of camp that only a show as well-executed as Y&R could have pulled off.

Michelle and Alex would been gold together. (I heard they only shared one scene during their overlap?) They would have tried to one-up each other, which would have been fun to watch. Certainly, Alex was great with Melody.

I'm so glad I didn't start Y&R with three grown women fighting over a man's sperm. Icky.

Maura's casting was so boneheaded. They wanted her to be a "name" character but didn't want to put in the work so just threw Diane at her. She was 15 years too young and doesn't have the icy cool of Alex Donnelly, Maura is a vamp. That's what she plays and what she's good at. Diane wasn't that. Dumb dumb casting.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.
    • Of course!

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

I've never seen a trainwreck like this in my entire life. 5 pencils and 3 dolls?!!!!!!!!!!! (this little moment starts close to the 7th minute) WOW. THIS IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
    •   @jmgaw did not refer to Luke and Laura. Throughout 78 GH's ratings continued to rise as AW's fell. That turnaround was getting a lot of attention in the soap press with Scotty/Laura, Rick/Leslie/Monica etc . So the 90 min decision was a reaction to that. I guess the thinking was that 60 min expansion had worked so starting AW a half hour before might keep viewers from switching to GH at 3pm. I don't think anybody really thought it would work. The most sensible solution would have been to expand The Doctors and hope for a GH like turnaround, but for reasons unknown TD never went to an hour.
