Many thanks for guiding me in the direction of those episodes, YRfan23, especially the Kansas ones.  Never thought I'd see them again.  Thanks also for the kind words on the review.  Glad I could help.  I was told by someone that TPTB cleaned house of those old music cues years ago, and they were bought by an interested party, who remains a mystery.  I just wish I could figure out what the name of the old western movie is, where SOME old the old cues came from...  Oh, well.

Certainly not unpopular here. But I would say EB and MTS were both better and more consistent in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, like Y&R itself. Never rated JM highly, even when he had good direction, although he’s had enough strong moments to make me think he’s capable of more if he actually cared.

But even Heather Tom has gotten lazy and predictable over at B&B, so who knows how she’d be if she stayed and had to deal with this level of production. She’s certainly not thriving under Bradley’s pen.

It took what, 2-3 years for that video Ashley shot for it finally to be exposed completely?

The whole Sharon/Diego/Victoria stuff with Nick & Grace shacking up provided some great fodder at the time for the Newmans.

Surprised they cut out the Raul and Mac scenes when they were present when they had reaired this back on Thanksgiving 2012.

I didn't bother to watch today as I remember the original airing and this episode was also rebroadcast before. Looking forward to the 1990s episodes next week.

I agree. I adored EB during the whole Kansas arc. It took him out of his element, and it made him reach to different depths as an actor. JM, well, he's awesome with kids. There's that. He was pretty good when Nick lost his memory.

I don't watch B&B, so I'm sorry to hear that.

For AH, I just don't think she's Victoria. I realize she's been in the role longer than HT now, but this isn't how the character should've evolved. For what it's worth, I did like her on Loving.

Yes, AH was fabulous on Loving. But she was so anemic on AMC and just got more lackluster on Y&R. I know a lot of us watch AH play scenes as Victoria and wonder how HT would play it. I do it all the time. But then I remember how the show was changing Victoria even before she left and how HT is currently playing Katie on B&B. She would have more energy and fire than AH, no doubt, but I think we’d still be disappointed at the portrayal.

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.  These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name).  I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
