Members Khan
DALLAS always wanted to be a modern-day Arthurian saga, and that promo does a very fine job of suggesting as much without overselling.

Members Khan
In retrospect, it was kind of silly to see someone like Angelica Nero in rough-and-tumble Texas. But, DYNASTY had overtaken DALLAS in the ratings, and so Philip Capice decided to inject more glamour into DALLAS. You know, J.R. was always hung up on who was a real Ewing and who wasn't, but I always thought the perfect storyline for him would have been for him to discover he wasn't a Ewing after all. Of course, such a story wouldn't have been entirely believable - for one, Miss Ellie never would've cheated on Jock - but I wonder how J.R. might have dealt with such a revelation.

Members Chris 2
That plot twist would have been too daytime for my tastes. JR being obsessed with who was a real Ewing was interesting. The NY Times, I think, did a story on Dallas when the revival first started. And they mentioned how weird the Ewings were in the original series - so worried about those who were “outsiders” or “not our kind of people” - like anyone would want to hang out in the dark ranch house and be stuck living with the Ewings.
Members kalbir
I think the shift started earlier than the dream season. 1982/83 Dallas got less modern day western and more corporate. Then 1984/85 Dallas got more glamorous.

Members SoapDope
It would have been nice if Bobby and Pam could have had their happy ending as the series finale. The shows would end like the show began with Bobby marrying that Barnes girl.
