Kay Alden back at Y&R

It's been long time since I posted here. But I've been mostly away from soaps.. with a here and there return (like for DAYS' 50th last year, however I didn't stick around long)..

However, with the news of Kay Alden returning, I am really tempted to return. I LOVED her tenure at Y&R.

I know she's only a consultant now, but SSM is also a good writer, so Sally and Kay together might be really good.

Although, current state of Y&R from what I have seen seems terrible. I hate the recasts (Victoria, Phyllis, Billy... even though I think all three actors are great, I just don't see them as their YR characters)... but I am thinking of giving it a go..

Do we know when Sally and Kay's tenure begins?

Welcome back.

It had to be Mal Young who fought for them to return. Maybe the Bell family got in his ear they literslly were locked out of YR during JFP reign. Jills reign actually they were not involved at all with YR. Maria screwed it for them she kept badmouthing Steve and Angelica in the press. It was like she was a whining child after she got fired.

I did hear JFP was shocked about her firing from YR. Her ratings were very good and she won back to back emmys best show. Anyone hear any backstage gossip on why she was dismissed

What's hilarious is the JFP and everyone else has used Lauralee Bell much more than Maria ever did.

Lauralee didn't even seem to care when she was asked about her sister-in-law being fired a few years back in favour of JFP.

Meg Bennett also worked with Sally at Generations and has history with Y&R obviously (she's also Bob Guza's wife, but that's neither here nor there). She also still seems friendly with both Kay and Sally on Facebook.

I was thinking about her the other day and was going to post about it too. I wouldn't mind seeing her on Y&R as Julia again too.

I would love for Meg return as either a writer or Julia Newman or both. Julia is a character from the past that Y&R has swept under the rug that could have storyline potential. Jaime Lyn Bauer as Lorie and Marla Adams as Dina would also be a great characters to return.

I am hoping Y&R can get her away from Days...LOL and would love to see Susan Seaforth Hayes back too as Lauren's mother.

I would love to see Susan return as Joanna. I wish William Gray Espy could be convinced to return as the original Snapper. He can be used to introduce Jennifer Elizabeth Foster to the canvas. Maybe Jennifer would be a vixen like Raven was on Edge Of Night.

Eileen Davidson said she loved working with Rod Arrants who played her first husband Dr. Steven Lassiter. Maybe Rod could come back as Steve's twin. The twin could be interesting and mysterious like Rod's character of Travis on Search For Tomorrow. They could go off on adventures together and give Eileen some meaty material to play.

Eileen and Sally are close friends in real life, and Sally's always mentioned that she enjoyed writing for Ashley. It will be interesting to see if Ashley finally gets a story with any substance.

Its all just wait and see.

I'm not expecting an influx of past characters. Some viable new characters are just as important.

As boring as I found him,I could see a Cole Howard return as having some impact for Ashley and Victoria. Also JT.

Thomson will go or be demoted to scripts or breakdowns.  I could see Meg Bennett possibly coming back to write breakdowns.

I want to see all the writers fired with the exception of Janice Ferri Esser and Natalie Minardi Slater, who are both Bell era survivors (it still boggles my mind how they were able to survive every subsequent regime change). SSM and KA need to start fresh with a team who will execute their vision.

Weren't there rumors at one point that LLB was involved in pushing her out?

They actually almost didn't. Esser was fired Latham but rehired by MAB.

Welcome back.

Thanks!

Good to be back! I am thinking of watching last week's of Y&R today and see how I feel about it..

I have been reading through this thread and it's interesting to see everything that I missed during the years..

So, who's responsible for the shifts at this show? Angelica McDaniel has been at CBS for few years and never cared to revisit anyone from the past, and Steve Kent at Sony has been there for over 20 years, so he's worked with both the Bell and post-Bell regimes - he bought JFP in, and never seemed to have any intention of revisiting the Bell era.

The Bell's had their chance, but screwed it up by giving MAB power, and were rightfully silenced after that debacle.

Did Mal ask for people who had extensive history with the show? He's the only "new" person in this equation. Going back to his history on British soaps, well, when he oversaw EastEnders for the BBC at least, he did tend to hire EP's that had a substantial history with that show (Matthew Robinson, John Yorke, and Louise Berridge).

To be fair, the plan was to hire them prior to Pratt joining, but JFP pulled strings and went above Angelica's head.

I could handle return of one legacy character - Dina makes most sense - but, as I mentioned on Y&R thread, the show desperately needs male characters under 40. There plenty of male children in existing families who could fit that bill. We really don't need more older divas: both MTS & JW should get as much screentime as possible.
