Kay Alden back at Y&R

Sally and Kay are switching roles from those they had in early 2000s.   In those days Sally wrote breakdowns and submitted character and story arcs to the head writers.  Now it will be reversed. We don't know if Kay will strictly collaborate/submit story ideas and will also write an outline per week.  But if they continue to rolls the title credits the way they have we may see Kay listed with the script writer on a particular day if she ends up writing breakdowns.

omg. I cannot believe I am reading this news. I've been so broken down by YEARS of CBS hiring the purposely wrong writers for this show, by YEARS of CBS trying to turn Y&R into some ABC hybrid, by being told that rehiring KA was a pipe dream we should all forget about... I simple cannot believe my eyes. I can't.

I'm not too worried about interference. They've let the last few regimes do some extremely bizarre things so I doubt they'll interfere too much. I'm very excited now that I know Kay is there. They need to clean up the writing staff and hopefully bring the show back to it's glory days. I just wonder how strange it's going to be, especially for Kay, going back to a show that was so consistent, but that has changed so drastically. Where do they even begin? There have been so many retcons and bizarre storylines that I honestly don't know where you start when it comes to repairing Y&R. I also am very curious on who is going to remain important character wise. The show needs a major revamp in terms of cast. I would name names, but don't want to hear it lol. I'll just enjoy this for now.

I'm curious on who they're going to axe and who they'll try to hone into the core.  On that note do either writer have experience repairing a show?  Doing so is a separate art.

What is the core of 'Y&R'?

So on the DC podcast Jamey dropped the hint that more Bill Bell era writers may be on the way back to Y&R. Could have been just a hint about Kay Alden, since the podcast was recorded before that news broke, but I'm guessing more than just Kay Alden is coming back.

I hate to sound negative but I think it's impossible to truly fix Y&R at this point, too much damage has been done. This doesn't mean Kay Alden can't make it watchable again, and I'm sure she will! I almost feel bad for her though because she is going to have so much pressure on her to return this show to its glory days. I can't expect her to work magic, it's not realistic.

Way, way too negative. A lot has already been fixed. If you don't see it, you're not really paying close enough attention. It's already watchable again, and the show is in better shape than it's been in YEARS.

The production has improved tremendously, the writing leaves a lot to be desired.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. The production has improved, the writing hasn't. It's still very much Chuck Pratts show and it's very obvious.

Meant to post this here, but her former colleagues are congratulating her on her Facebook page, and she acknowledges what a difficult job she has ahead (in a response back to Jim Houghton):

Jim Houghton Happy for you, Kay. You and Sally...just like old times! Have fun, above all -- have fun!

Kay Alden Nelson Thank you, Jim! We're both excited, but well aware we have a challenge ahead of us. But I think it will be fun!

Thanks for posting that. I hadn't thought to check her FB. Nice to see so many people thrilled for her, including Meg Bennett and Tracey Bergman (unless that's a fan account).

They sure do have a challenge ahead of them!

That is so heartening to see. Jim Houghton is a classy guy. I doubt he wants to return to writing in daytime, but Y&R would be lucky to have him.

Kay needs to unleash hell on LML and MAB!!! I would give anything to see a video of her calling one of them and basically asking them "what the hell they thought they were doing?!?!"

With the news, I hope this means we could potentially see Dina again. Always happy to get as much Marla Adams in my life as I can.

What I would pay to see Marla Adams and Eileen Davidson go head to head again... Always such visceral hatred from Ashley towards Dina - totally delicious <3
