I think the character works because the writers know who he is even if deVry doesn't, and I think he's the kind of noxious boor Alexis - who's always wanted this type of man - would end up with, and that they do have chemistry. He's an antagonist who works. That being said, yeah, this is all getting very stale. You want a blockbuster September this year? Have Alexis and Julian get married and have the mob crash the wedding or reception. Bye bye Julian and a lot of other people. Wipe the mob canvas out in a big way. But at this point, I am content with Ava going either despite me wanting Maura to keep a job in daytime (SN: DAYS or B&B, pick her up if this occurs). Shawn, however, can live.
