But Roger wasn't that vile. He had redeeming qualities about him.

Roger was a rapist. I think he was more like Todd Manning. Neither were ever redeemed in my book.

I've always seen Adam--or wanted to see him--as Y&R's Mason Capwell, the brilliant, damaged, bitter, needy, sarcastic, self-destructive black-sheep son who lashes out in sometimes mean, sometimes pathetic, but always entertaining ways. Mason was a bastard, but we loved him. That was due to some excellent writing (the Dobsons, Patrick Mulcahey) and acting (Lane Davies). I'm not sure Y&R has the talent to render such an interesting, complicated character in Adam.

I loved Mason Capwell. And C.C. But I think there was something about the performers in those days and the freedom they were allowed to create that is missing.

Loving Tognoni as Phyllis! The scene where Phyllis confronts Jack about sleeping (and moving in) with Kelly while she was in a coma were nothing short of wonderful. Now if only the rest of the show could follow suit.

The thing people forget is the entire show wasn't written from Roger's point of view. Other characters were not compromised to make Roger work. He also had his original run, then was gone for nearly a decade when he came back.

Soaps have had many successful anti-heroes. But they used to ground them and other characters were given a point of view.

Adam has done so many terrible things. It's hard to root for him at this point.

Run Sharon Run! That's the guy that ripped your baby out and gave it to Ashley! Stick with Nick.

I'm loving Hartley as Adam, but I don't want to see Adam anywhere near Sharon. There are way too many other people on canvas he should and could be with.

GT is great as Phyllis...Michelle who?

Now if they could lose some of the dead weight:Noah, Victoria, Dullan, Avery, Cane, Sage, Kevin, Abby, Grandpa Billy.....

I'd like to see SSH drop by to support Lauren along with Jill, now that the cancer has been revealed. After Kyle's recast, it would be nice to see an adult Scotty arrive to fall for Mariah.

I watched it three times. GT was spellbinding, and PB was effective for the first time in awhile. He's turned into a wimpy, dewy-eyed replica of Jack Abbott of late, but he brought it yesterday. I still don't want to see him paired with Phyllis, though.

Roger was a rapist. I think he was more like Todd Manning. Neither were ever redeemed in my book.

To each his/her own, but beside the crime they committed, they were different. Todd was a sociopath. Roger was a schemer that liked to capitalize on incidents that would put him in power positions in the workplace.

And I didn't get to see GL during Roger's original run as I wasn't born till '88. I did (as a child) get to watch him throughout the 90s, and I think he repented for his actions numerous times. Holly forgiving him made it easier for me accept and love him.

I still don't put it down to just great writing and acting. It was a different time period with socially acceptable mores that are no longer socially acceptable today. There was a time when people believed that married women could not be raped by their husbands. That thinking has changed in most of society. Today on the other hand, anyone who believes that a married woman can't be raped is seen as believing in a very outdated and wrongheaded mode of thinking.

Another example, once upon a time blackface and minstrel shows were acceptable to a certain segment of the population. Today you'd be hard pressed to hear anyone proclaim that they want to follow in Al Jolson's career footsteps.

D.W. Griffith's Birth of A Nation was once acclaimed as a great cinematic highpoint. A movie where the Klan is portrayed as the heroes of the day? That would not pass muster today.

I know when I go back to viewing the classic Guiding Light episodes, the very last episode I would ever chose to watch would be Roger Thorpe raping two women. Perhaps people back then could ignore what happened but I know for me, today, as a thinking viewer, I would not be able to look past what a character had done if it was that heinous.

Seeing as you put it that way, I could understand it. But for me personally, I loved Roger b/c of MZ and Nancy Curlee and her writing team.

I enjoyed yesterday's show. SC looked beautiful, I'm on the fence about pairing her up with Adam. I liked their interaction at Crimson Lights, and Noah's reaction to it lol. I feel RA could work if they'd invest in his story.

Loved Ashley as always. I'm interested in what she'll do now that the mole has been discovered. The writers didn't need to come up with a ridiculous story to work espionage into it though.

Ashley's discovery, Adam/Victor and Nick/Sage (I hate that name) will have me recording Mondays show for sure. I know that there are a lot of problems with the show, but I'm enjoying watching some of it. The other parts I FF through.

So, I was watching with a friend yesterday evening. The characters that he attracted his attention were Noah, Adam and Sharon. He has no idea the story but when one of these were on screen, he was asking what's up with them. That's a perspective from someone with no history with Y&R. Victor (weird and old). Lol

IMO, Hunter King should've stayed a blonde; this hair color doesn't do her any favors.

Also, I wish they'd give Summer a better personality.

Anything would be better than the whiny brat that she comes off as. The red really doesn't work for her. I doubt they could get rid of King after the Muhney incident, so we'll be stuck with her for a while. For a rich girl with a good lookin' hubby, you'd think she'd at least smile once in a while!

How have the soap critics responded to GT and JH in their new roles? I don't read many of them. I do know that Michael Logan (TV Guide) has his head way up Michelle Stafford's ass. Has he (or anyone) commented on Gina's Phyllis?

I haven't paid that much attention but I've seen tweets praising both recasts. (Jamey & CBS SID) The reaction has mostly been positive unlike the situation with Billy.

Logan has been up Stafford's ass for years and continues to pimp her web series that only two people care about. Not surprised he's spewing some bias.

Also, Tognoni has been far more successful on Y&R than Stafford has been on GH. Anyone who disputes this doesn't exist to me as far as I'm concerned.

Stafford has taken her worst acting tics from Y&R and amplified them by a million on GH. She doesn't fit that show, but has the soap press machine and terrible regime at GH covering her ass at every move.

Logan tweeted last night he still doesn't like " NuPhyllis" even after Thursdays show and twitter ripped his ass a new one.

She's doing great as far as I'm concerned. Logan's opinion doesn't mean any more to me than any other fan, tbh. Less than most of the people on SON because I don't seek out Logan's opinion.
