Y&R: New Head Writer

He seemed to like turning characters psycho and putting them against my sweet Kendall, the bastard. We mustn't forget his last major story where he turned Aidan psycho & obsessed with Kendall, taking her on the run & pretending to have sex with a clone of her to make Zach jealous. OMG! Just awful.

This is something he DOES share with Ron Carlivati (who, otherwise, I do feel are bad in very different ways,) -- after a few months, when he doesn't know what to do with a character he makes them suddenly psycho (which often leads to their exit -- aww remember the days when characters with no story would just happily move to Seattle?) It kinda wokred for Annie mainly because of MCE (at least for me,) otherwise...

I thought Frank South was the showrunner for seasons 4 to sometime in season 6?

He may have been--I've read interviews and articles on it a long time back, but can no longer find them. But Pratt did have a LOT more story power as soon as Star's main involvement left.

When Broderick came back as an interim writer for the anniversary the change was so quickly apparent.

THAT MOMENT I will never forget. I remember the sun gazing on Maddison at fusion, and if I am remember correctly it was that odd episode were everyone was waking up at the same time and Erica went to BJ's when I was like "AMC IS BACK!"

When she returned I felt as any show, even GH or GL, could be fixed if under the right hands.

To fix Y&R just send all the useless characters on a plan and have it crush and burn in a mountain somewhere.

On Tuesdays episode start having all the characters come together for the memorial of the loss of the characters while having the characters ACT IN CHARACTER. Then use the memorial as a spring board for the new stories.

Ok, yeah, that idea needs work but I am sure the premise can be used to fix any soap

Darren Star essentially left as show runner right after Season 3 of Melrose I believe and that's when Pratt replaced him (he had written episodes before, and I may have the timeline wrong,) but, if you like Melrose, he did some fun stuff. Hell, I even enjoyed in a guilty way his Models Inc, Hell I even liked the very short lived Dynasty update, Titans. But they were trashy, primetime soaps and after that Pratt seemed to think daytime soaps should be written and even paced the same way which does NOT work (particularly for a show like AMC.) Despite primetime soaps taking much of their inspiration from daytime, and then upping the anti by 110%, they're such different beasts. (Didn't Pratt co-create Sunset Beach but never HW?)

Elements of his and Guza's GH were definitely pitched very much like his primetime soaps - so high-intensity, full of hair-pulling, catfights, and over the top bitches. I'll never forget the mess with Faith and Courtney, where they had some sort of major physical throwdown (one of several) and then Faith, randomly, kissed her with the 'kiss of death.' I can't find the clip now. I mean, who does this on daytime? Two hot blondes fighting and [!@#$%^&*], that was his sensibility. Poor Cynthia Preston and Faith were basically his primetime-styled blow-up dolls - nothing but sex-sex-sex and death. (I believe Faith was offed shortly before or after he was dismissed.) It was ludicrous, all it needed was some sax or rock guitar.

I loved that [!@#$%^&*] on '90s primetime and I think his work on MP, etc. is not without merit, but on GH? It was just so tacky.

I loved Melrose Place, so I can't hate on Pratt totally, but as you've rightly said, everything right about his work on MP will be wrong for Y&R, except if he makes Jill a crafty bitch...that might work. Special Guest Star: Jess Walton as Jill

Melrose is one of my favorite soaps of all time - I know that show by heart. But Melrose is not daytime.

Sony needs to fire JFP & Hire Wendy Riche

agree 100%

God, Melrose Place *puke*

She was somehow involved with the MTV show Laguna Beach, which became The Hills.

I remember hearing she was rumored to take over ATWT and I was thrilled.

I'm not certain Riche would thrive on daytime now. It has changed so much, and the poor woman already had to work for Frons. Let her keep her peace and quiet.

Melrose Place went downhill as soon as Pratt took over. Season 4 was passable, but it went down a cliff after that. I wouldn't say his primetime work makes me feel any better than his daytime stuff.

That's true. Season 4 started a dark/ugly trend that continued full force in Season 5. Everyone pretty much despised each other. They were hitting each other, slapping each other, sleeping with each other ... Jo and Jane both had shifts in character ...

titan1978, you are so right. Not only did she have to work for Frons, she had to put up with Guza! If she can thrive outside of daytime, God bless her!

Pratt kills off vets, he sure did on AMC....

I'm NOT talking about AMC or GH or Santa Barbara or Sunset Beach, I'm talking about Y&R
