I forgot to say this until I saw that Susan mentioned the show in her interview, but that Celebrity Autobiography Broadway play closed this month, before Susan could appear in it. The reviews were scathing and the ticket sales were poor.

Someone put these two June 1986 episodes on Youtube about a week ago. I looked on Archive and Youtube and didn't see that they were already available but I may have missed them. If so my apologies.

Sorry if I missed anyone.

I also saw a bit of an October 1986 episode that was uploaded almost a year ago. I can't remember if it was posted before or not.

1986 All My Children and commercials aired mid Oct partial episode

They really did change everything about Skye with the recast, from the accent to the "kooky" wardrobe. I am not sure what they were thinking with the original concept of the character.

Celebrity Autobiography had a couple strikes against it. A, it was the second time that specific show had been on Broadway, and apparently they didn't update the material. B, over the last few years, audiences have grown less tolerant of actors reading on stage, especially at Broadway prices.

Thanks for the tag for the 1986 episodes!

Yeah, there have been a couple of shows like this in the past little while on Broadway, and I think the thinking is people will pay Broadway prices just to see the famous people on stage--which isn't really feasible right now... There were the two "plays" All In and All Out which were just a rotating group of celebrities reading Simon Rich stories, I think they finished their intended run, but I know several friends who actually felt pretty put off by what they were getting for their money. (I am curious what autobiography Susan Lucci would have read from?)

Thanks for that! Wow I thought I had some idea of 1986 AMC (and had seen episodes before) but several people here and several storylines are pretty unfamiliar to me, and if I knew Skye was a jazz singer I certainly had forgotten :O Although I have seen bits of this Skye when she slept with Tad (cheating on Hillary and providing Michael E Knight's first attempt to break away from AMC--I think that's when he did that angel comedy.)

Interesting to see the credits (love when we get full credits :P ) Art Wallace and Gillian Spencer are listed as story consultants--Wallace being another major Dark Shadows writer working on an Agnes Nixon soap...

I knew that Erica and Tom eventually made some type of peace but I was surprised at how well they get along here and how much fun Tom is having with her, how he tries to support her, etc. Maybe Richard Shoberg was just having fun, I don't know. Usually the character is so tense.

She said she was going to be reading from Liz Taylor's memoir at the same time as someone else would be reading Debbie Reynolds and someone else would be reading Eddie Fisher. She would also be reading Hedy Lamarr.

(at one point poor Michele Lee, who seemed a little out of it, misheard and thought she was reading a Mario Cantone memoir - Susan said no, although that would have been great)

Ooh that's a good combo! I did just finish the interview (which I liked more than I expected to--some good little tidbits. And yes, I was amused when Susan had no idea what Michele was talking about with soap opera cue cards that weren't the script but would remind you where you were in the script??)

@slick jones I'm posting this here, rather than clutter up the Soap Hoppers thread. Hopefully you can pass it on to Robert Heitman's grandson. Unfortunately, at this point I can't locate the rest of the article but will keep trying.

Sunday Journal-News Rockland County Sun Feb 19 1984

‘Doctor’ is always on call By JOHN DALMAS

When actor Robert Heitman is in a room full of doctors and someone walks in wanting a doctor, they invariably go up to Heitman first. “You conform to a pre-conceived look, a three piece-suit look’ that convinces people you’re the type,” said the 48-year-old Piermont resident, who has never been within a mile of a medical school, yet portrays an obstetrician on two current soap operas on television. For five years Heitman has been Dr. Stan Clader on ABC’s “All My Children.” Then, nine months ago, he joined “As the World Turns” on CBS as Dr. George Erhlich “I’m delivering babies in two hospitals on two channels. All I need is NBC to call, and they can develop a story of a traveling doctor who makes network house calls,” quipped the six-foot-tall former paratrooper and onetime vice-president of his father’s construction firm who gave up the family business 14 years ago to become an actor full time.

Playing what are known as “recurring” roles on both soaps, “whenever the story line calls for the good doctor to come and deliver another baby,” Heitman spends his time in between appearances auditioning for television commercials, his main source of income, he said. “Most of what I do are ‘voice overs,’ where you hear my voice but don’t see me.” He mentioned two commercials currently on television where he can be heard, for Seagram’s Mixers and Bausch & Lomb. Though lending only his voice to television is nott exactly what he had in mind when he quit his father’s business, Heitman is doing what he always wanted to do, he said. “All through high school and the army I had the desire to be in the theater. It was always around the house when I was growing up. My mother was a concert pianist and sang, and my aunt and uncle were in the business. But when it came time to go to college (he went to MIT) it was the 1950s, and in those days you were going to be a doctor, lawyer or engineer. Nothing else was even considered.

Hte first real taste of what it would be like to be a successful actor, he said, came when he was stationed with the army in France. "I was stationed with a support group in Orleans when the Army put on an all European play festival and contest. Our unit did 'Death of a Salesman' (he was Biff) and we won."

Joining his father's business anyway after his discharges (he had gotten a divorce while overseas, but had 3 children to support), Heitman remarried and settled down to suburban living in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.

But the itch to act would not go away, and after a year performing with the Bergen County Players, a community theater group in Oradell, Heitman told his father he was leaving the business. He has never regretted that decision. Heitman said, even though he was forced to sell the house in Woodcliff Lake and move into his grandmother's home in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens “It was a struggle. I thought I was going to take Broadway by storm, but there were some lean years.” A stroke of luck, when his first television commercial (for Primateen Mist), lasted six-and-ahalf years, helped him stay the course. “It took a while, but gradually one thing led to another,” he said.

Ten years ago, he made his first appearance on a soap, playing a neurosurgeon briefly on All My Children. "Then I played a businessman named Bill Mendell on Search For Tomorrow. That lasted a year and a half" He also appeared in an off Broadway production of 'The Glass Menagerie' (he was the gentleman caller)....

Amazing - thank you!!! I'm heading off today for a long holiday, so only have time to zip through a bit, and can't wait to watch more later... I wonder if this was part of that storyline where Erica and Brooke crash land on an island? They were mentioning a private jet and then the ending with those foreigners was interesting. I liked the music at the end haha.

Thanks again!
