I think there was a big update in 1991 that added characters like Olivia, Dru (although they may have been added the year before, i'm not sure), Neil, Victoria, Ryan and Flo. And then I think there wasn't another one until 1993 when they added Blade, Cole and Hope. So there definitely was an opportunity to put Sheila in the open, though for whatever reason they didn't.

Sheila’s omission from the opening credits is pretty prominent. I mean even Lisa Mansfield had been squeezed into the opening credits. Not sure why Brown was left out of the 1990 and 1991 opening updates as there was three versions of this Lauren opening where should would have fit in:

The Victor/Jack conversation in today's show had me thinking about a couple things from the past. While Victor can't normally stand Jack and Billy, he respected their father John Abbott. I don't know if Bill Bell ever explored this, but I wonder if Victor's respect of John Abbott was because of John's business acumen or that John was the good father that Victor didn't have and Victor tried to be.

Another thing I wonder if Bill Bell ever explored, Victor maybe being jealous of Jack for having a normal family life for most of his childhood, which Victor never had. Yes Dina abandoned her family, but Jack at least had John, Ashley, Traci, and Mamie, whereas Victor had nobody.

I don't actually agree with this. I don't believe Victor ever got bored with Nikki, I actually think the opposite is true and I wish they would address the elephant which is that Nikki is significantly younger than Victor and was constantly and consistently turning to younger men for comfort and sex. She would get tired of sitting in that ranch, fluffing flowers, see some young stud and get all hot for them - even her gynecologist (Josh) or the boring writer living in the horse stable (Cole).

Besides the affair with Ashley in 1985, the person who has done the vast majority of the cheating in the Nikki and Victor relationship was Nikki.

Just think about it, Nikki had an affair with Brad in 1999 because Victor was spending all his time at Newman and she wanted attention. She almost slept with Bobby in 2005 and then she DID cheat on Victor with David Chow...then again with Deacon all the way up to her affair with Arturo and in almost all those situations Nikki stepped out or had the affair before Victor slept with anyone else. Even when Victor did cheat, we never saw it. Him and that prison guard Alicia he supposedly had sex with was never shown, we never saw him in bed with Genevieve but saw Nikki and Jack in bed all the time even when Jack was in a wheelchair, we saw Nikki and Deacon in bed constantly, even saw her making out with Arturo on several occasions but never saw Victor even kiss that Helen lady.

I always consider Nikki the original Real Housewife - someone who had very little ambition or desire to work and loved the life that her much older husband provided but couldn't help herself when some young stud showed her an ounce of attention (especially when her husband worked all the time). EB would never allow it but there was a time when I wished they would just say Victor was her life partner and she loved him but he did not satisfy her sexually anymore because it seemed clear that is what the show was implying (especially during that Arturo and "open marriage" story).

I think Victor respected John Abbott, because he saw John as a legitimate businessman, and not a playboy and dilettante like "Smilin' Jack."

And I think you're right, @Vizion, that Nikki was the original "Real (and Really Bored) Housewife."

I think people are over thinking why Victor liked John. It's simple. John was a likeable guy, a good family man, a good person to be around, and he was a very strong and very ethical business man. So, why would Victor not like him? Jack was essentially the opposite (early on, at least).

    • I hate it too but people casualy posting it so openly is dumb as hell. Especially when it’s known that they are hunting them down.
    • Wasn't Taylor Miller still playing Nina during the period that Devon was on the show? She was also written out around the time Julia Barr left and Brooke was recast. I wonder if they brought her back because being the doomed non-Nina love interest to Cliff was something they didn't want to give to a woman they cared about, and they didn't want to create yet another Kennicott relation. Then having her for the Lynn Carson story also made sense because if there was intense viewer backlash, she could easily be written out.
    • I also like how they've set up all the pieces where they could do yet another "shocking Gio parentage reveal" in another year or so if they want to. Because it's not at all implausible that teenage BLQ would have sexually experimented with both Dante and Cody. So if they want another violin-smashing moment next year, just have Gio find out that Cody is his real bio-dad.
    • I agree, also am able to see various points of view. Lulu, Lois & I think the two of them are going to rival one another for the heat they are going to take.
    • When you think about it, someone who stayed on for as long as Devon must have some fans out there. She also had an alcohol issue. I saw a host of episodes with her and Cliff on YouTube. I wanna say that’s who Cliff was entertaining while Nina had the affair with Steve.  Do you believe she lasted so long because Brooke left and they kept recasting Nina?

    • Thanks again @Paul Raven  It shows you just what a unique and memorable performer Denise Alexander was that I can see her in these moments and hear her even though I've never watched any of the material. On paper it probably wasn't up to much, but I do wish I could see her playing it. Meanwhile, the Diana material continues to seem like one plate of ass after another...I was thinking she had finally been able to move on with the therapy breakthrough, but then we're right back with her believing Peter and Leslie are having an affair. I don't know how much further off the material is that made Valerie Starrett leave, but I can't blame her.  I see less and less of Jessie anywhere in this - is this when Emily's health troubles were starting to phase her out of story? Going a few summaries back, writing out Lee, Caroline, her son and his wife seems so rushed. It's a shame Marland, or whoever, killed off all of them (aside from Lee), as they might have given Lee some story down the line. Or maybe the daughter-in-law survived too - I can't remember.
    • Thanks!  I compiled the list and posted it for the 59th anniversary in November, but just made the updates now for the couple of new cast members we've had since then! Didn't realize until I did the update that Peyton is the first-ever contract actor born in Nevada, so that's another state off the 0 list!
    • What I love about this story is that I can empathize with both Lulu's point of view AND Lois's point of view. I can understand why Lulu thinks it's important for the truth to come out and why she feels a moral obligation to let Dante know he has a son. But these good intentions have gotten all mixed up with her hatred for BLQ, and so she's going about it like a self-righteous bully who hasn't thought through all the consequences of this reveal. And I can understand Lois's thought process keeping this secret. She couldn't bear to give her grandson away to strangers, and so she arranged an adoption that kept him in the family. From her perspective, it's worked out beautifully because as Gio grew up as a "Palmieri cousin", he got to know his father Dante, his mother Brook Lynn, and his grandfather Sonny. She just had the hubris to believe that she could play God and keep the secret forever.  Maybe it's just getting to see Cynthia Watros and Laura Wright in full-on catfight mode a few days ago, but the show is starting to remind me of Guiding Light in its heyday, where most of the drama comes from the interactions of long-running characters who are likeable in some ways but have enough fatal flaws that they create their own problems. That's a sharp contrast for the way GH has generally been written since the JFP era, where most of the drama comes from external threats: supervillians, Sweeps month disasters, the mob shootout of the week.
    • Wow, @JAS0N47, that list of states was impressive! And I never knew that James Read hailed from near me! (I was born and raised in a nearby city, about 15 minutes away!) (Liked him since he played Murphy Michaels on Remington Steele when I was a kid. As an older kid, I also loved him on North and South!)
