Did those shows archive his appearances on their shows? ATWT and GL are the two shows I am more familiar with which is why I cited them. My point though is that soaps were terrible about preservation. Even in the early 70s when even the lowest budget theater in the park had presence of mine to preserve performances. P&G’s efforts were particularly dire.

for sure, p&g in particular, were awful about archiving those early episodes — cheaper to tape over and not have to worry about space to store the tapes. laurie caso once told me that there were only about a dozen available.

was not aware of jones’s earlier soap appearances, but not surprised. the big deal about jones, micki grant on another world, and billy dee williams and cicely tyson on guiding light is that they were the first black actors to be put on contract.

of course, in 1962, rex ingram became the first black actor on contract. but the show, ‘the brighter day,’ was cancelled 2 weeks after his first episode. bad optics for sure, but the show had been moved from the late afternoon to late morning and the ratings were tanking, so it’s unlikely his appearance was a much of a factor.

A few moments from an episode near the end of 1977. Nothing standout here, other than a reminder of just how long Kim had that haircut, but still, it's nice to be reminded some stuff is still out there (apparently most of the episode was taped over - drat). And it's always nice to see Carol, and a brief glimpse of Michael Nader rocking a '70s ugly shirt that looks like someone painted a building onto it.

Does anyone know what set Kim and Carol are on?  I'm assuming it was probably Kim's house.  If so, then is this the same house she later lived in with Bob in the mid-1980s?  I've always been told the house we mid-80s fans always called the Hughes house (Kim and Bob's house) had previously been Kim's residence for years, and the Bob moved in with her when they got married.

Kim had an apartment in the 79 episodes when she was widowed.

I think the Kim/Bob house was a newer set. Where did she live when married to Nick?

And where was Bob living? After Jen's death I think he moved back in with Chris & Nancy so Nancy could look after Frannie.

But the Hughes house was dropped and Bob married Miranda. Maybe she & Bob lived in that house and Kim moved in?

Someone will know @vetsoapfan ?

Thanks @DRW50 for tagging me on this video. Watching a scene like this, it occurs to me that anyone who grew up on a steady diet of soaps exclusively from the past two decades might find that scene between Kim and Carol to be plodding but I like the pace of conversation and how realistic it sounds, the way an unscripted conversation might seem. You only need listen to what the characters are saying, how they relate to each other and soon you’ll be drawn in. Today’s soaps would only give this length of time to the characters if there were at least four in the room talking, likely about some bizarre scenario. Scenes in soaps today are barely two minutes unless they are intercutting with something else happening simultaneously, which is drawn straight from the movies.

When Bob and Kim got married in ‘85, I remember scenes when Bob was packing boxes and trying to get Tom (and maybe Frannie too?) to come and get some of his cherished childhood items (I guess the implication was that Bob would donate and/or junk the rest). I also remember Craig Montgomery coming in as Bob was hauling out the rest of his belongings as he sold the place to Craig. I think Bob even handed the key to Craig and said something like “Welcome home” to Craig.

The Hughes house was originally lived in by Nick and Kim..and was remolded (acknowledged on air...the staircase and the entryway where even Kim mentioned, "So someone can come in and close the doors to have a private conversation" a foreshadowing of many eavesdropping to be done only to be outdone by the Snyder eavesdropping porch, which ruined many a paternity secret.

    • Staci Greason was in Paris during this live tribute, which would have been in the middle of the night where she was. So Fairman arranged to pretape Greason earlier in the same day, and then spliced her part into the end of the video after the live feed, and it's all on the same youtube.
    • Agree to disagree. I like it. No doubt it's different. It's supposed to be. Is it dated? Yes, but then that's natural, it's from 1977. I think that reviewer needed to watch a few more episodes. It is clever but not precocious. The role reversal IMO works & well. The best thing I could advise anyone interested, is to try it for yourself, you can always quit it if you don't like it. As much of it as some of us were able to gain access to are up on the Internet Archive & also on my Rumble acct. If you need further directions, PM me.
    • This was really amazing to watch.   They said that a lot of stuff was filmed out-of-order, over a few weeks. John's memorial service was filmed a few days before Drake died, and then there was a prescheduled pause (the studio being dark for a haitus week).  So they got the news of his passing during the break. But some of the recent stuff at John's bedside (such as his death) was filmed after that hiatus break, so not long after Drake died.

I don't know how the actors got through it, especially Deidre. They said regarding episodes airing week of June 9th stuff, it will seem less dark to viewers, as there were some (relatively)  lighthearted moments. (not giving spoilers here).  But I guess Drake was still alive when those scenes were filmed, even though they knew he'd pass soon.
    • Thinking about where the current Cassadines are.  Alexis, Molly, Kristina, and Scout are currently active on canvas. Technically, Ace is on canvas, although we never see him. Jake is in school in Spain? Valentin and Charlotte are currently off-canvas, I think? I've lost track. I thought Valentin was in a prison somewhere, but then I remember reading something about Charlotte, and deciding if she'd live with Valentin or Lulu, but I don't remember what was decided.  I'm unclear on where Valentin is now. Nikolas is in prison. Did I miss anyone?
    • Thank you! Also, can't seem to find Oct thru December '73. I thought it was here at one time.

    • To me, he was her best romantic pairing!
    • In 1986, the writers had Zane shot twice in March and August when he died.  It’s like they didn’t know what to do with the character after they married him to Felicia.
    • Totally feel the same. Stacy’s fine, but this version of Kristen just exists for Brady’s storyline. No flashbacks, no real layers. Eileen always brought that extra spark - and her chemistry with Drake back in the day? So good. Definitely feels like a missed opportunity. Can you imagine Eileen’s Kristen walking in, all shaky, and just hugging Marlena? Both of them crying - like actual, messy, earned tears? That would’ve hit so much harder. Pure soap gold.
