Welcome to the boards.

I try to be a lot more cordial usually, but from time to time I get a little ornery when folks only seem to show up to remind us to be civil to people who are part of a system that would never return the civility and break every rule of engagement in the process. It gets more than a little tiresome.

I actually once heard someone telling people not to 'fat-shame' Trump when he called a woman "Miss Piggy" for months.

Civility is not supposed to be a one-way street.

He has his "chosen one," Ivanka.  The others...?  [!@#$%^&*] 'em.

Ironically, I think Barron is Trump's most handsome offspring, poised to look better than even Ivanka and Tiffany.

Tonight's debate was a whole lot more coherent and substantive (still some questions that the moderators failed to ask though), probably because there was about 1/2 of the candidates on the stage that were there previously.

Also some protesters interrupted Joe Biden just as he was answering one of his the final questions.

Thanks. I lurk here a lot because you all come up with really interesting links but I don't feel informed enough to post much. I've been on a media and news blackout because I'm so disheartened with the state of things. But some recent right wing f#ckwittery in Australia has got my blood boiling and I'm engaging again.

I would have made her come back down and mop up every bit of her "menstrual blood."  Then, I would have hauled her ass off to jail.

Ironically, I read an article today in The New Yorker -- yes, I read TNY, shut up -- about the effect the anti-vaccine movement is having on the rate of measles vaccinations in this country, particularly in areas where people are more susceptible to believing all the innuendo about their effects on children.  Basically, the article says, public health officials have to treat the movement the same way in which they treat the disease: as an actual disease that itself needs "vaccinations."

That means dividing anti-vaxxers into two categories: those who are "hardcore" and are resistant to any education on the subject (basically, the ones who make it necessary for the rest of us to be vaccinated, and promptly); and those who are "vaccine-resistant," that gray, in-between area, where they might be okay with giving their kids the shots, but who remain concerned nevertheless.

Frankly, public health officials have enough on their hands trying to keep measles (and other diseases) in containment status.  They have neither the time nor the resources to beat back all the loons who still believe vaccines contain dead baby parts and can cause autism.

This is blowing up, first because of NYT burying the lede in the story and poorly phrasing their headline (couching it as college hijinks and suggesting a strange penis in the face is 'harmless fun') before retracting it and apologizing, and now because the real story indicates more allegations against Kavanaugh:

God.  That POS B**** K******** is back in the news.  It's like watching a sequel to a movie you didn't like in the first place.  I wish he would just spare himself, his family and the rest of the country the agony and resign.

    • I dont understand the motivation behind it. Eva is her link to Ted and the Duprees and without her, she has nothing. It would have served better for Eva to be all fed up with her and leave the house on her own and Leslie try to make amends bc she needs her for this comeup she's been talking about. Eva can repair her relationship with Ted and maybe build something with the Duprees and cut her out
    • So good today Dante is overreacting blaming gio Hopefully Danny will come clean
    • Not mad at Leslie Locking Eva out, I think it's important for the audience to see her on her own for a while. Curious how scrappy and savvy she becomes on her own. Yeah, I am with you there. It feels a bit hollow; maybe if she was talking to Martin and Kat I would feel better about it. There must be more to this story. Daphnee and Ambyr owned this episode. Tugging my heart in every scene. Nicole process hurt and anger much differently than Dani though.
    • I also really enjoyed Eva's scenes with Kat today. They have an interesting chemistry. I thought it really did feel a bit like sisters at conflict. Especially with the way that Eva was trying to convince Kat to forgive Ted and them both coming to the conclusion that the man they thought was their father was different wasn't who they really thought he was initially. And the way that Eva broke down when Kat said that she was dead to her was emotional stuff. I really do think that in spite of their conflict/bickering Eva really would have loved to have gained a sister, along with a brother, father, etc... Also, I thought it was interesting how Eva kept saying that she loves Ted and Nicole. That and Leslie mentioning that Kat/Eva are almost twins really does make me wonder if Kat may really be her twin and Nicole's as well. I would gladly welcome that outcome, even if it takes a while for it to come out. At this point Leslie doesn't deserve Eva as a daughter as far as I'm concerned. And I would forward to a storyline where we found out that she's Nicole's second baby girl, and all the complex and ultimately happy feelings that would bring Nicole. Eva/Kat could still have a rivalry, especially if Nicole ended up doing some more bonding with Eva. And then we could get the rest of the family's reaction to that as well.

What you NOT gonna do to me!
    • Bravo to every single person responsible for today's episode. From the writer on down to Kraft services. Yall I'm getting emotional but I wish my granny was here to have seen this soap since she was the one to introduce me to this medium.

    • Everything is fraught with confusion. Why is Leslie pleading with the Duprees to accept Eva? She's not biological family so what is this? She's the product of an affair with their in-law so Leslie wants them to accept her? I'm getting GOOD TIMES vibes of Leslie and Eva minus the physical abuse.
    • Big fan of today's writing. In particular, I like EJ complexity, crying over Johnny and conspiring at the same is tough to pull off in the same episode, but it goes very far in explaining EJ's motives. I don't hate the idea of Cat and EJ, and I especially appreciate everyone trying to warn her, but she is sticking to the plan. Boy oh boy, when Brandon Beemer wears a shirt that matches his eyes, I get lost in the screen!
