The most nonsensical part is when I see fans going on about how of course he was bisexual and it was so brave and honest of the show to just never discuss his sexuality. You know, aside from when he was nailing sisters...

I'm sorry. I know what it's like to lose your favorite characters.

I'm with @DRW50 in that I don't want Janine back either. All her stories ended in doom and gloom as if Janine couldn't contribute anything else. I would prefer for Janine to return only under a writer that isn't gonna have her remain as a constant black widow on the Square.

@TimWil, do you honestly believe that Michael French would return again? Without Carole or Bianca would there be a reason for him to return?

Thanks @DRW50.

I would like to see Janine again but I don't think she should be brought back, there's no reason for her to return to the Square. I don't think Charlie Brooks would agree to it anyway.

Not sure how Whitney and the Carters as well as Kim, Sonia and Robbie have outlived

Max is a joke now though.

The EP's on EE always seem really arrogant with their decisions. They seem to take pleasure out of axing big characters. This kind of thing wouldn't happen at Coronation St as far as I can tell.

But with Coronation Street, it should happen. They have a strong handful of characters that need to be rested, which is what I think this exit is. If John Yorke can see the Branning sisters need a break, someone who was always a major champion of the Branning family (hence my earlier question) I think it could only mean that he is looking at the show objectively.

As for Janine, I only started with Kirkwood so I found her story to always be consistently well written until her exit under DTC. I do agree to a fear that she could be ruined under a future regime, but I loved everything they did with her since I started watching.

I'm actually quite happy with those two getting the axe as it's what I've been hoping for all year long sitting through their go nowhere scenes, and I think Lauren is a good character and actress but when I see those two, I don't really see their purpose for the future. If Ronnie & Roxy could be dumped like that, two sisters that are far inferior, spending their time being bored, boring, sharing men, and being unpleasant no less, could go. Steven was the only thing that breathed life in their material, and I'm quite unhappy with what they've done with him but I'm a month behind and it's such a chore to watch the show. I was shocked they did a Mick/Linda episode. Those two need to go as well, and I wasn't thrilled to see Whitney return, she's sleep inducing. Much like the Branning sisters, there was definitely something in her before but it's gone. I wouldn't mind Bianca coming back as I do miss her but I don't know how popular her last stint chasing after Liam was.

Janine was ruined by Kirkwood IMO. Setting her up with that awful Michael Moon is what made me stop watching for years, they'd ruined my favourite character. Then making her kill Michael (that is what happened, right?).

I do agree there needs to be more people axed on Coronation St, but the right ones. Coronation St wouldn't axe its best characters over the most mediocre ones. What are Kim, Vincent, Robbie, Sonia, Carmel, Kush etc still doing there? Is it because they're bland and boring so easier to write for?

Janine's in the small club of characters I would actually define as "iconic." I think EastEnders needs a good troublemaker and she serves that function extremely well.

I'm not too sure about this casting development:

I guess that tweet somewhat confirms suspicions.

At this point, I feel like they might as well get rid of them. As aforementioned, the writing is on the wall with Max. I don't see Jake Wood being spared either. With Jane being kept alive, Max is gonna have to be punished.

I think Jack will be the only Branning to remain, and he's always been a Mitchell to me seeing as he was more in their orbit than he was with his family. You only saw him with the Brannings when he was scolding Max.

If EE is gonna clean house then I say go all out. Get rid of the Taylors and Carters too. Some of the Mitchells (Phil) need to go too.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
