So will AMC get a ratings bump from Zarf?

Will AMC suddenly get a bump in the ratings due to all the press coverage? It must be a slow entertainment news week, but the BBC, Drudge Report, the New York Times, and many other mainstream news outlets have picked up the story. Even late-night comedians are making jokes about it. AMC is really struggling in the ratings obviously, but will the buzz make lapsed viewers check in to see what all the fuss is about?

So will the show get a bump: Yea or Nay? I say Nay.

I think it will. Given the huge media attention it's getting that's enough to peak people's curiousity

While part of me wants AMC to rebound in the ratings since it's been 'my show' since 1982 (I was a baby when I started watching, okay?)--I'd rather it be for storylines dealing with characters we know and care about and not some Zarf person. Even if this SL is handled beautifully--and let's face it, with the current PTB, it's unlikely--I will have a hard time enjoying any of the new stories with the knowledge that good characters with tons of potential like Brooke, David, Opal and especially SIMONE have been forced out.

I'm sure Frons is creaming in his jeans with all of this press. AMC has probably been getting more non-soap press than any other soap lately, with Julia Barr leaving, the serial killer storyline, and now the Zarf story. My HOPE is that the ratings will rebound and they will have more advertising $$$ for vets and Julia Barr can come back...the catfights between Brooke and Erica this week show how enjoyable this show could be if they'd emphasize the Brooke and Erica rivalry.

I still bet McTavish and Carruthers were on the way out and they presented Frons with the combo of the serial killer and transgender SL's as a last ditch effort to bring the ratings up. Which means if the ratings DO increase, we're likely to never get rid of them.

No.

Look at the little effect Luke and Laura had on GH's ratings. And they are actually tied to this history of the show, they are the most famous daytime couple ever. This isn't going to do anything for AMC, at least in the short-term. Maybe it will build gradually.Maybe.

But then there are Vincent and Julia Barr fans leaving AMC for good, it might just off-set them rather than create a bump.

What if Zarf *IS* the killer?

What if he kills women because his desire to be one is "that strong"?

Don't underestimate McTavish.

She did write Marian Crane on GL, didn't she?

It might bring a ratings increase.

But they'll tune out once they realize how currently awful the rest of the show is.

I doubt, I will not be turning in for this STUNT!!

Yeah right, if AMC gets a ratings bump I know that the entire Nielsen Panel has lost their god damned mind. Who gives a flying frick about this character? It's another NEW character. The show is already overridden with frickin newbies. That's part of the reason why the show has crapped out.

Oh, and if this storyline was being handled by a more capable writer then it may be good. But we all know Megan is good for promising great and delivering [!@#$%^&*].

I'm definitely one of those Vincent fans leaving for the lush, greener pastures of CBSD, Y&R and his brand-new David! :) ABCD and AMC are a pathetic joke.

If AMC does get a boost from this Zarf storyline, I don't think it will last long. I don't think it will take the new viewers very long to realize how horrible the writing is on the show. If McT was fired today and a new writer was coming to the show, I would go back to watching AMC. And I might even be excited about this storyline. But it just to complicated an issue for McT to write well. I can't even think of the last storyline that has been well-written the last couple of years. She needs to go. I wouldn't be surprised if she pitched this storyline to save her butt. And Frons fell for it.

It will be interesting to see if there is some backlash from this storyline also. This is a subject that may turn off the more conservative viewers. Parents may not want their teenagers to watch it. Who knows. And I haven't seen any discussion about this storyline on any of the Y&R boards that I visit. I have looked on some of the OLTL boards and haven't found anything about it. I know AMC is being mentioned a lot in the press and on the web on the news sites but I haven't seen that much interest or reaction to it except on certain AMC boards. So time will tell if the PR helped boost AMC or not.
