I think the one thing OLTL could do that would significantly impact ratings would be to return Todd to the driven, CAPABLE schemer he once was, allowing him a complex but enjoyable revenge on Spencer, not just snark -- with Spencer's leaving the canvas after that (by significant, I mean a .1 or .2). Timing is off, but it would go along way towards making the canvas more recognizable But Higley WON'T write it (she Lurvs PS and Spencer), she doesn't appear to be going anywhere, and even if written, would TSJ play it?

Both shows need to stop the vet cast bleeding - and even if no one is ousted, I'm certain the cure will involve MORE budget cuts . There are some other departures coming at OLTL already along the rumor mill, and Bruno is shilling four candidates for a 'new male lead' for the show.

DAYS dip in the ratings is purely due to the fact that it was pre-empted in some areas, and in some areas they showed the previous day episode. Pure and simple. I wish people would stop making more out of it that it really is. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, and probably won't be the last.

Well just as much is being made about the pre-emption thing hurting Days, but the fact is if Days had more going on (and I am not saying it isn't good or that it hasn't improved) that the ratings would have not been that affected by the pre-emption.

AMC as bad as it is right now did have some excitement going on last week. The same thing that happened to Days happened to them. Some people saw the same show 2 days in a row. On Tuesday though AMC had a 2.3 and on Thursday (the day that some saw the same show from Wednesday) they held their own and garnered a 2.3 too. Overall their ratings went up for the week.

So in some ways Days has a reason to say why their ratings went down, but at the same time they don't either. As many have said they are not saying Days is bad - in fact they are saying Days is better but it is just not must see TV right now. If the stories were more exciting then I believe like AMC they would have been able to overcome the pre-emption or at least held their own.

That is just my opinion, and before someone attacks me please note that I said Days has gotten better. It is just not my cup of tea.

I'm not sure anything can save OLTL now. It certainly won't improve under today's ABCD. I don't even recognize Todd anymore. If any one couple is guaranteed to be a channel changer it is Jessica and Antonio unbelievable. I haven't watched in a long while, but what they did to Blair saddened me.

I'm glad Passions hit two million viewers again, but now that I'm completely disappointed with Passions yet again with the non-revelations during the PassionsTabloidTruth storyline, I'm sure the ratings will fall well below two million in the next couple of weeks. I'm officially on the oust JER or put Passions out of its misery bandwagon.

Here's an interesting tidbit of information though: even though the show has only 1,868,000 total viewers this season 46% of those viewers are in the prized demographic the advertisers love.

Those who are trying to say that DAYS ratings were NOT affected by the interruptions on Wednesday and the pre-emption/repeated episode on Thursday, need to have their head examined!!

Just look at how many people tuned out on those DAYS...HMM gee I wonder WHY!!

DAYS lost 400,000 viewers from Wed & Thurs...yet look at their Friday rating when the show finall was back on with an original episode and WITHOUT interruptions, they jumped nearly 700,000 viewers in ONE DAY and was the 3rd most watched soap that day.

The Thursday episode should have never been counted in DAYS averages...especially when it was pre-empted or repeated in almost all markets that day. Who the hell is going to keep watching an episode they already saw or who is going to sit through a show that has been interrupted, I know I don't!

Mitch, I understand the argument 100%, but that still doesn't explain why the same thing didn't happen to AMC. The same amount of people that got the same Days on Thursday got the same AMC on Thursday, but yet AMC's rating did not go down. They were not affected by it.

Using your analogy I guess AMC fans were just so dumb they watched the same show twice. At least certain households did.

I don't say that to be rude or anything - just the analogy does not hold. Both shows were dealing with the same thing. As I said Days has gotten lots better - better than it has been in years, but the stories are not enough to say make people sit and watch a show twice. AMC has been really bad for months now, but last week was pretty good on the show. This week they have even been doing pretty good. The show was exciting enough at that point that people did watch. Now I will give you that AMC lost a lot of viewers too, but they did not lose any households. Days lost a lot of households from Tuesday to Thursday. And although viewers are important advertisers look at households still.

AMC and DAYS ratings both suck, as does OLTL's. It's just comparing different types of rotten-apples. You can say advertisers look at the HH, but then you can say they look at the HH for the week vs. the day which is most likely true - in the end all you really get there is AMC/DAYS got the same lousy HH on the second week of sweeps. Many would argue that advertisers only really care about 18-49, DAYS gets the upper hand. 2.4 is bad for a weekly rating, as is 2.3. 2.5-2.6 was bad a few months ago, but unfortunately the soaps (save Y&R, a soap somehow having it's strongest numbers in years) are reaching new lows every few months.

Focusing on just Tuesday to Thursday would be like just focusing on Thursday to Friday.

Mitch is right and perhaps people were willing to sit through a repeat of AMC on Thursday. Who knows but Mitch is right-that day was a fluke.

Rugrat is right too that the numbers suck for everyone but Y&R.

As for Passions, that number is so not going to hold with what is coming. . The only good news for Passions is the holidays are coming and that is the only time of year lately where they actually do something worthwhile.

Phoenix, I agree with you 100% that the day was a fluke. My point and others point who brought it up is that it cannot be used as an excuse for ratings. If one show could overcome it then any other show could have been overcome or it. Or you have to start examining whether one set of fans is more loyal to their show, or are one set of fans dumber than the other set in that they did set through the same show twice, or could it be that the writing for that one particular episode was more interesting to make the viewers in that particular household tune in more. Who knows.

To totally disregard the issue, and just say that the day was a fluke and say that the ratings drop was totally due to it is to just spin the drop like the networks do. Especially when one show which to me is in far worse shape than the other one is was able to overcome the interuption and maintain their household numbers.

And as to Rugrat I agree and have said already in this thread the numbers stink for all except for Y&R.

And as to the other stuff about what the networks and sponsors look at I highly think needs to be done away with. Especially sweeps months need to be done away with. To have a certain number of months or times that the sponsors are going to examine shows only gives networks the incentive to air special programming at a certain time of the year. The sponsors and all should not even announce when they are going to look at the ratings and change it from time to time. You better believe then that the powers that be would maintain quality programming for all the whole year.
