The impending implosion of CBS Daytime

Why would The Price is Right be going anywhere?

I'm sorry, but I think they'll find a new host. Hopefully not that dreadful and untalented Ryan Seacrest, but someone in their mid 40's to 50's. I dunno - someone like Alan Thicke? While I like Bob Barker, I think the concept of the show is good enough to keep on going without him.

I dont see NBC giving up on PSNS just get. It's got a cult following and it could be a great hit if they retooled it. They could easily just do what UK soap Family Affairs did and wipe out all the dead wood in the cast and bring on fresh new faces and new stories. The ratings rose when Paul Marquess took over, and sure it has ended now, but that was only because the channel that showed (Five, which is only around 8 years old) it was still not happy with the show and wanted to spend their drama budget on mini series' and comedies made in the UK, as they usually show US imports. The quality went up in the last few years and it was beating the big shows like EastEnders and Coronation Street for the best storyline and best dramatic performance awards at the soap awards. If someone had the guts to come into Passions and wipe out all the dead wood and streamlined it, perhaps going into a telenovela format, and it could REALLY be great.

I don't believe the whole "Brad Bell's new soap is going to NBC" thing. Why would Bell be in talks with NBC?

I'm not believing ANYTHING until I see an officail press release from NBC.

:)

Who gives a [!@#$%^&*] what YOU believe?

I mean seriously.

We all just stop chatting because YOU don't believe something?

You act like only your predictions of GL and ATWT being cancelled are believable.

PHOOEY.

Well, low-budget gay pornography is more expensive to produce than GL. LOL. But I love both of them on their own merits.

PASSIONS has to go! I think the simple fact that NBC tried to clone it into New England's answer to BEACH or SB is where they really fucked up. Nothing is better than the original.

And Brad Bell creating and producing a show for the NBC Lineup fascinates me. Would this be a Bell-Phillip Production with NBC owning a stake in it, or would it be a part of a new production company Brad Bell starts on his own(i.e. Reilly's Outpost Farms).

Before he died--Bill Bell had been in talks to create a new soap for NBC called "What's Done In the Dark", along with Ken Corday.

Later on, Ken Corday wanted to do a high school spin off of DAYS on his own, but it didn't fly.

Brad Bell picked up his dad's old idea for "What's Done In the Dark" and developed it without Corday, but CBS turned it down saying they don't have room right now. NBC offered like twice what CBS offered for the bible idea and so it's been on the drawing board at NBC more seriously than Corday's DAYS spin off.

NBC is considering a complete overhaul of "PASSIONS", but then again, if James Reilly won't cooperate by stepping down, they may just cancel it and go with the Bell soap, which more than likely would be more compatible with DAYS and would get higher ratings than "PASSIONS" is getting right now. NBC would own it.

If DAYS makes it to a 3.0 or higher and holds steadily, and PASSIONS remains lower than 2.2, then you can be sure the Bell soap ("What's Done In the Dark") will be brought in and heavily promoted.

After reading the post from EricaKane4Life about Brad Bell possibly creating a new soap for NBC and Passions being revamped or cancelled I was floored.

What is with you people??? You take SPECULATION and GOSSIP that seriously???

NO ONE...can possibly know what is going to happen in the future.

We are SPECULATING.

But I happen to have more connections to more of the "options" that are actually being

discussed and bandied about in daytime.

For all I know, NBC could make a spin off from PASSIONS.

This is just a discussion board, kids. It's not that sserious.

LOL. I HEART YOU!

THANKS. I appreciate it. :P

Fascinating...

Although I hope they change the title. That seems more suited for a late-night soap.

I want to believe DAYS can get a 3.0, but I'm not sure if that will happen with its re-airing on SOAPnet and what not. If NBC wants to see DAYS at a 3.0, they need to promote the hell out of it.

EK4L, weren't you almost banned a while ago for causing an uproar with the whole [s.W.S.N.B.N.] controversy.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you know all this stuff before anyone else does. And some of the things you say sound like you just pulled them out of your ass.

Do I believe that my predictions are the bible, NO! I never said I did. I was just saying what I was thinking, just like everyone else. I'm entitled to that.

No one should just stop chatting because I said what I don't believe. That's the great thing about a message board. Everyone has their own opinion and is allowed to say whatever they want, even you. You're allowed to go around and deliver all of this bullsh!t that you call backstage gossip as much as you want and I'm allowed to critique it. :)

Later on, Ken Corday wanted to do a high school spin off of DAYS, but it didn't fly.

That's kind of old news. I'm hoping you weren't trying to give us recent gossip about that topic.

Just keep delivering you're bull and we'll keep listening :D

You know, I can do it too.

-I'm getting word that Agnes Nixon is coming out of retirement and returning to AMC to fix the mess that McTavish made. Burton Armus was just a red-herring. You should expect a release of this information very soon.

-CBS is so satisfied with LML's work that they are giving her all decision making rights. Word behind the scenes is that she is firign all of hte old Y&R writers and bringing her friends to write with her. Expect to see a whole new Y&R soon.

-P&G wants Hogan to pull double duty and return to ATWT as a storyline consultant while working at DAYS.

-Word backstage is that Higley and Valentini got into a huge uproar last week over a creative idea and Higley's job is on the line.

HAHAHAHA, I see why you do it EK4L, it's really fun to make up sh!t! :P

There's really no need for all this argument, people. It's descending into crap arguments like this that get threads closed. Which is a shame as it's quite an interesting discussion topic apart from that.

Am I missing something here? I just don't see them getting rid of an established soap that does so well in demos? Passions is currently doing better in those demos they they were from 99-02.

Season to date

Teens 12-17 - #1 Soap

Men 18-24 - #1 Soap

Women 12-24 - #1 Soap

Women 18-24 - #1 Soap

Women 18-34 - #2 Soap (Only behind DAYS)

Women 18-49 - #7 Soap (Ahead of GL and ATWT)

PSNS also gets a 5 share in households, only 3 behind DAYS/GH/AMC/ATWT/OLTL, and 2 behind GL

IMO, As long as DAYS is on the air PSNS will also be.

I just don't see NBC (which is demo crazy) getting rid of a soap that gets superb younger demos. Passions is currently doing better in those demos they they were from 99-02

THANK YOU RICK! What I said from the beginning. PSNS isn't going anywhere as long as there are teenage girls roaming around the planet.

Don't act surprised by any reactions or responses you receive when you SPECULATE or GOSSIP about shows that people are passionate about. It's rich how you chose to quote only part of my post. While I'm more than aware this is a message board, you can't honestly not expect some backlash by the things you post.

There was a time that I looked forward to your "inside" information. Now, you come off as somewhat pompous and disrespectful to those that may have a different view from what you consider "inside" info.

DrewH, most of the things he has said have been true, some even backed up by posts from Errol, who runs the site and has no connection to EK4L. Of course not everything he says is going to be correct, but thats because it's still in the development stage and things change. But if you go back into the past you'll see more truth than false when it comes to his scoops.

I still say they should give up on Passions. The show is considered such a joke, I just don't see it working. Plus JER will NEVER step down and since he co-owns the show they can't force him. He is one of the worst writers in the history of soaps and thats not going to help any show.

NBC needs to save their money on a retool and just cancel the garbage. Much better soaps weren't given as much a shot as Passions has.

Oh, I'm aware of this. I remember when the whole Hogan Sheffer/DAYS negotiations were starting last summer. EK4L was our "insider" for all the gossip, but then I find out that a lot of the stuff posted on here had already been posted on other sites. So it makes you wonder...

No offense, but why are these numbers great Rick?

The WOMEN 18-49 are the most important to advertisers anyway! Who gives a crap about the rest of those numbers?! Maybe Nickolodeon, Disney, and Noggin.

NBC is trying to make anything look like an accomplishment. A real feat would be doing #1 in all those areas. Not just #1 in the shitty, don't give a [!@#$%^&*] demos, but the all important 18-49.
