Bwahahaha

I've figured it out! I know where the video files are that are d/l to my computer! Disregard my earlier statements and keep it FREE baby! I'm *so* downloading everything I can get my hands on this weekend so I can keep these soaps for posterity in my soap opera collection. :)

You must reveal your secret!

I tried this and it didn't work...I couldn't find the video files.

In your "My Documents" folder, there should be the folder "My Deliveries". In that folder is the folder "kdx". There is a hidden folder inside "kdx". That's where everything is. To view hidden files/folders, go to "tools" in the top navbar. Under "tools", go to "folder options" and then set it to view hidden files/folders. The hidden "tempcache" folder should now be viewable. Inside "tempcache" are the video files, but the names are odd, but that's what they are. They're Windows Media files. If you open them, your d/l episodes will play in Windows Media Player.

Well, I can't see them b/c of my craptastic computer. I don't even want to try b/c my computer will most likely crash and I'll get in huge trouble w/ the computer-people at work. I might be able to watch them once I'm back in school though.

Nevermind. I'll just use my mom's laptop! :D

I'm glad that they're showing AW. I miss that show so much. :( I guess I can still see it on SOAPnet, which is fine. But it does suck that they can't show vintage GL and ATWT. I think that would be really beat to see, since there are a lot of characters still around now (mostly from ATWT, but a few from GL too). The vintage episodes were always very popular when CBS showed them during the holidays. I still have a tape of the ATWT and B&B episodes that they showed one time. (I think it was for New Year's).

BTW, you can't watch them if you have a Mac. At least, that's the message I got when I tried it on my laptop.

I agree Matt, I would definitely pay to watch these and get to save them. It's great that they're free and all, but who knows how long this will last? PGP are lucky bastards that they have all this amazing stuff. I hope they realize that.

What I like about the AW episodes is that they're *not* what's on SoapNet --- they're 7 years older. Way back when, AW went through mega changes (almost yearly) between the period on the P&G Channel and the period on SoapNet. Nearly all of the characters/actors in the 1980s eps were gone before the SoapNet eps. 1980s AW is still very similar to the classic 70s eps in that the Matthews family is still all there (Jim, Liz, Russ, Pat, etc.) and hadn't been written off. Mac & Rachel are still there. Iris had just left for Texas. None of the key late-80s/90s characters had been introduced (Loves, Hudsons, McKinnons, Felicia, Cass, etc.). In the earliest aol ep, Rachel & Mitch are discussing her secret pregnancy --- that child would be Matt Cory. Amanda is still a baby. Cecile is still Susan Keith (best known as Shana from Loving). The Cory mansion is still in the 1970s configuration and hadn't been changed over to its later design. The classic multi-colored rings opening is there. It's an entirely different feel for the show as compared to what's currently on SoapNet (be that either good or bad), so while it IS AW, it's a completely different show (in some regards).

Also, P&G's timing of the AW/Texas eps is a stroke of genious. The earliest AW ep is the one from the Friday before the Monday Texas premiere (and the last 90 minute ep, at nearly an hour of story time, it's taking an eternity to d/l) and both the Texas/AW runs are synched up on aol so that the eps shown are the concurrent runs on NBC. You're watching HALF of the NBC line-up on the air at the time (the only thing missing is 1980's Days and The Doctors). Watch AW2082 followed by Texas#1 and you're watching *exactly* what aired on NBC from 2pm - 4pm on 8/4/80 (minus commercials, of course). That's kind of a neat feeling, IMO.

Thats interesting about AW Matt! I'm not crazy about the show on SOAPnet, but I'm willing to give it a chance since it's basically a new set of characters. Of course my computer will only let me hear whats happening, but I look at it like a radio soap. :D

BTW, why did Iris leave Texas? I thought she was the star of the show, but I see on IMDB that she left after the first season. Did they bring in someone to replace her or recast? Why doesn't the actress who played work now? I've seen some episodes of GL with her and she is everything everyone says she is!

I also liked the other Iris when she appeared as Lisa on ATWT.

From everything I've read, Beverlee McKinsey (Iris) was ready to move on from AW in 1980, but Paul Rauch (EP of both AW and Texas) convinced her to move over to the spin-off (and the "and starring..." credit). I think she only signed on for a year and then left when that year was up. She later went on to GL as Alexandra Spaulding for 8 years and then left that role, infamously, by taking her scheduled 6 week vacation and then alerting JFP (EP of GL at the time) that, per her contract that JFP apparently hadn't read, she was giving her 6 week notice that she was leaving the show. From what I've read, McKinsey had a period of a few years where she wasn't well (to the point where she had a kindey transplant). Her only other soap role after GL was a guest appearance on GH (where her son Scott is/was a director). I've heard that she was contacted by AW for a special appearance in the final episode, but she declined because her health had affected her appearance and she wanted AW fans to remember her as she was. I hear she'd in pretty good health, now, but has retired from acting alltogether and is hardly ever (i.e. *never*) seen out or gives interviews.

Thanks for that Matt! :) She sounds like a Daytime Legend. LOVE anyone willing to stick it to that evil demon Jill Farren Phelps! :D

Does anyone know if they will be putting Search for Tomorrow episodes on the channel?

  • Member

Yes. They will be putting SFT on the channel. I suppose they will cycle it in later.

I watched the first 17 episodes of "Texas". I've seen episodes of the show from towards the end of the series, and the show truly started out a completely different show than what it ended as, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Carla Borelli was amazing. It's too bad her soap career has been so limited. Reena was one of the only spark in the first week or two. Blackmailing her mama the overwrought Vicky Bellman so she could stay in Houston instead of returning to Bay City with Kevin, flirting with old flame Justin Marshall, and sparring with ranch hand Max Decker over horses.

A lot of nice relationships. Max Decker pining after his best friend's 'widow' Ginny Marshall, while Ginny is horsing around, literally, with Ryan Conners. Justin Marshall and Reena's cousin Sam Walker are a fun bickering couple. Lisby Larson's Paige breathes life into ex-footballer Clipper Curtis who is involved in some ridiculous Middle Eastern shenangians which make James Lipton Baraq story on "Capitol" look like must see tv. The Marshalls and the Deckers are very interesting families who interact well, well those that do interact.

The first weeks are hard to watch with all the stuff revolving around the Iris/Alex reconnection which is boring and a waste of Beverly McKinsey's talent. At least someone grounded it by having the past all gone done in Iris' beloved St. Tropez. Alex Wheeler is kinda boring and all the shenangians at the Top of the World complex seem boring, except when Reena's private eye catches Vicky and Alex kissing. Yum. I love Elizabeth Ashley and Carla Borelli, there was a reason they were survivors.

Dawn and Dennis are also typical young love, but they are nothing to write home about. There was stuff involving Dawn's father's diary but other than that they are just kinda a necessity for Dennis to hate the father he doesn't know he has, Alex. The love triangle between Kevin Cook/Courtney Marshall/Bart Walker is also kinda boring, but I would love to see Reena fight for her property after a scorn Bart let it slip to his cousin that KEvin had other motives for staying in Houston.

Other than that, I would like to see more because it was improving.
