  1. Not impressed. This is the last new primetime soap this season.
  2. @soapfan770 How was Jill hooking up w/ Victor not Jill-like? Jill was Y&R's original social climbing vixen, always on the lookout for a come up. Remember a decade earlier she kicked Andy to the curb when John Abbott returned to Genoa City. If I remember 1992 storylines correctly, Jill was interested in Blade but he was drawn to Ashley. Not long after was the Victor/Jill hookup. Fall 1992 Victor was all alone. His marriage to Ashley had ended and Nikki decided to stay married to Jack. Jill was a diversion, I'd say, but no real love on his part.
  3. This was when BD started to get OTT in her acting. I don't think EB took her seriously in that scene. OTOH I recently saw some summer 1989 scenes w/ EB and JW and it seemed Victor and Jill were intrigued by each other. I think those scenes planted the seed for the Victor/Jill hookup in the fall of 1992. Would Victor and Jill have worked as a 1990s business power couple?
  4. @ironlion Victor/Matt/Nikki/Ashley were listed in the "Brothers Fighting over a Girl" thread. Sibling quads in this thread are two brothers and two sisters. Another Y&R sibling quad: Neil/Malcolm/Olivia/Dru

  6. Remember these tweets that went viral? They pretty much tell us whom Y&R's main viewers are.
  7. I'm still waiting for EB's first episode to surface, and also Christmas 1981 where we first learn about Victor's childhood.
  8. CN allegedly had substance abuse issues that lead to the firing. Bill Bell strikes me as the type to have a zero tolerance policy at his shows. Remember JC went to rehab in the 1980s.
  9. @soapfan770 Thanks for the GC tour guide. Is that from the 25th anniversary book?
  10. @BetterForgotten I know it's the 1990s thread but keeping it real here, 60 Minutes and Murder She Wrote basically carried CBS from when Dallas fell out of the Top 10 until the start of Survivor and CSI. That's what 14 years, yikes.
  11. More like from the late 1980s, once Dallas fell out of the Top 10.
  12. Fox network firsts End the season in the Top 30: The Simpsons (28th, tied w/ Night Court and Doogie Howser, M.D.) in 1989/90 End the season in the Top 20: The X-Files (11th), King of the Hill (15th), The Simpsons (18th) in 1997/98 End the season in the Top 10: Joe Millionaire (3rd) and American Idol (Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th) in 2002/03 End the season at #1: American Idol - Tuesday in 2005/06

  14. Shows in the Top 10 by network. CBS: 60 Minutes, Murphy Brown, Designing Women, Murder She Wrote, Major Dad, CBS Sunday Movie, Touched by an Angel. Four of the seven shows in the Top 10 during the 1990s were broadcast on Sunday (60 Minutes, Murder She Wrote, CBS Sunday Movie, Touched by an Angel) and the remaining three were broadcast on Monday (Murphy Brown, Designing Women, Major Dad). ABC: Roseanne, America's Funniest Home Videos, Monday Night Football, Home Improvement, Full House, Coach, Room for Two, Grace Under Fire, NYPD Blue, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, The Practice. Eleven shows made the Top 10 during the 1990s (I counted Who Wants to be a Millionaire as one show). Disney completed their purchase of ABC in 1996 and in the early years of Disney's ownership, it seems like Monday Night Football and Home Improvement were the only solid hits until Who Wants to be a Millionaire premiered. NBC: Cheers, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls, Seinfeld, Frasier, ER, Friends, Caroline in the City, The Single Guy, Boston Common, Suddenly Susan, The Naked Truth, Fired Up, Veronica's Closet, Union Square, Jesse. Eighteen shows made the Top 10 during the 1990s and nine of them were short-lived time slot hits (Caroline in the City, The Single Guy, Boston Common, Suddenly Susan, The Naked Truth, Fired Up, Veronica's Closet, Union Square, Jesse) that benefitted from the Thursday night powerhouse trio of Friends, Seinfeld, ER. Sixteen of the 18 shows in the Top 10 during the 1990s were broadcast on Thursday (Cheers, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Seinfeld, Frasier, ER, Friends, Caroline in the City, The Single Guy, Boston Common, Suddenly Susan, The Naked Truth, Fired Up, Veronica's Closet, Union Square, Jesse) and the remaining two were broadcast on Saturday (The Golden Girls, Empty Nest).

  18. Since we've had threads on brothers fighting over a girl and sisters fighting over a guy, let's go to the next level. Two brothers and two sisters in a quadrangle. I'd say the gold standard of sibling quadrangles was Y&R's Lance/Lucas/Leslie/Lorie. That quad had the Le Morte d'Arthur influence and biblical allusions, plus Lance and Lucas's mother Vanessa in the background which took the quad to a whole other level.
  19. Today (January 14) marks 15 years since Darlene Conley passed away. RIP. OG Sally Spectra will forever live on in the hearts of B&B fans around the world.
  20. Great idea @Franko Y&R owns this thread: Snapper/Greg/Chris Lance/Lucas/Leslie/Lorie Jazz/Tyrone/Amy Victor/Matt/Nikki/Ashley Neil/Malcolm/Olivia/Dru
  21. I remember Mamie was addressed several times as Mrs. Johnson. I don't think we ever knew what Mamie and Lillie Belle's maiden name was.
  22. I think it was established that Mamie was a widow with no children when she came to work for the Abbott family. In a 1988 episode, it was mentioned that Mamie had worked for the Abbotts for 25 years.
  23. I hated that Ridge took advantage of a drunk Caroline, especially when you consider that less than a year earlier Caroline was raped.
  24. Mamie was de-aged too with the recast. Marguerite Ray was born in 1931, Veronica Redd was born in 1948.
  25. From what I've seen/read, the contrasts between Leslie (kind-hearted emotionally fragile heroine) and Lorie (jealous scheming vixen), and the relationship each had with their father Stuart was a big part of their dynamic.
