https://www.instagram.com/p/DYAtlcgkgfi/ janefonda MY IMMEDIATE THOUGHTS ABOUT TED He swept into my life, a gloriously handsome, deeply romantic, swashbuckling pirate and I’ve never been the same. He needed me. No one had ever let me know they needed me, and this wasn’t your average human being that needed me, this was the creator of CNN, and Turner Classic Movies, who had won the America’s Cup as the world’s greatest sailor. He had a big life, a brilliant mind and a soaring sense of humor. He could also take care of me. That was new as well. To be needed and cared for simultaneously is transformative. Ted Turner helped me believe in myself. He gave me confidence. I think I did the same for him, but that’s what women are raised to do. Men like Ted aren’t supposed to express need and vulnerability. That was Ted’s greatest strength, I believe. He also taught me more than any other person or school classes, mostly about nature and wildlife, hunting and fishing (hunters and fishermen who follow the law are the best environmentalists), but also about business and strategy. Ted was supremely strategic. It was likely innate, but he studied the Classics in college, knew about the Peleponesian War inside and out and the strategies used by Alexander the Great and even Genghis Khan. And sailing big boats as he did further honed those strategic talents which he then brought into his businesses to much success. He could see around corners for sure. Next to Katharine Hepburn, Ted was the most competitive person I have ever met and that was fascinating to witness. Whether it was who’d made the most ski runs at the end of the day, to acres of land owned (stewarded is the more fitting word for his relationship to land), who had the most billions, how many countries he’d made love to his prior lover in and could I match that, it was challenging. Ted was challenging, but I’ve always been up for a challenge, and with Ted it was almost always worth it. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS BELOW -- (from the comments) janefonda As our friend, Ron Olson, said, “Ted was a great teacher, often by example. He challenged us to think big (he once asked me to draft a resolution for the UN and the US Congress to ban all nuclear weapons; I did) and act small (for the twenty years since meeting Ted, I too, pick up trash on my walks).” I loved Ted with all my heart. I see him in heaven now with all the wildlife he helped bring back from extinction – the black footed ferrets, the prairie dogs, Big Horned sheep, Mexican Gray Wolf, the Yellowstone wolf pack, bison, the red cockaded woodpecker and so many more, they’re all gathered at the pearly gates applauding and thanking him for saving their species. Five children survive him, five talented, complex kids who I had the privilege of becoming stepmother to. I had four stepmothers growing up and I know how important stepmothers can be, so we all did our best to build an extended, rag tag family, and I love them to this day. If it was complicated to be married to him, think how complicated it was being his child. And they are all doing fine. Rest in Peace, dearest Ted. You are loved and you will be remembered.

Thanks. Honestly all I remember is him commuting to Y&R from Nashville, because I was watching Y&R then and not GH. I wrongly assumed the reason why he left GH.

GH: May 2026 Discussion Thread
Burton lived in Nashville for several years. There was some sort of difficulty with the tptb at GH being unwilling to adapt to that as much as he needed? so then he was cast on Y&R. Y&R worked around his commute time. At some point GH was willing to take him back, but I don't know the circumstances. He was at GH until the vax thing, then went to DAYS. Somewhere in there he moved to California, but I don't know when; nor do I know when he returned to Nashville.

And his daughter's name was autocorrected to be the non-capitalized regular word. I know it's a regular word but why didn't he manually correct that?

Ted Turner was the best! I followed his career from the beginnings. I remember when he was a sailor and won the America's Cup sailing race. Later, he founded the original CNN which was unbiased and international and you know, actual NEWS. I know he regretted selling/merging his empire into AOL/Warner. After he left, CNN became a stupid shadow of its original. (of course CNN doesn't admit that in its obituary!). I loved Ted Turner's conservationist/ecological mindset. One of the stations/networks he owned,TBS, broadcast annual Audubon Society specials One year the advertisers dropped out of the Audubon special due to pressure from loggers and ranchers. Ted Turner said fine, I'll just air it on TBS without commercials. I have never forgotten this. He did a lot for international relations and donated to the U.N. And Captain Planet!!! I thought he was one of the most spiritual atheists! (In my opinion, true spirituality is upliftment of others, caring about the Planet, and having a wise perspective, regardless of whatever belief/unbelief you may have)

Brown A special citation is awarded to Miami Herald reporter Julie K. Her Perversion of Justice series, published nearly a decade ago, revealed how prosecutors shielded Epstein from federal sex trafficking charges when he was first accused of abusing young women. Remember when Nick Fallon started to rape Gabi outside in the woods, and she reached out for a rock and bashed him in the head with the rock in self-defense, not intending to kill him at that time, just to make him stop. Kate and Sami arrived and unscientifically determined that Nick was "dead". Sami and Kate convinced Gabi that they should dispose of the body. Gabi was acting in self-defense, so I don't remember why they didn't call the police.. The three women dragged Nick's body through the woods to the river and threw him in the river. They had some sort of elaborate scheme in which they had Nick's phone and used it to text the Hortons to say he was out of town. But Nick wasn't actually dead, just unconscious, and he was secretly rescued from the river by some guy Percy Ruggles. Ruggles was out birdwatching with his camera, and had witnessed the ladies throwing Nick in the river, and took photos. The photos were used to blackmail the ladies at some point. Meanwhile, Nick stayed in hiding for a long while and then made a dramatic return reveal. From this storyline came the phrase "river-dead". So now Kristen bashes Sophia in the head with a rock and has her thrown into the river. Is Sophia "river-dead" or really most sincerely dead?- DAYS: May 2026 Discussion Thread
I completely disagree. Using a child to snare a lover is a bad outdated trope for women that I haven't found entertaining in decades. I thought it was wonderful that they went with a "young woman choosing not to be a mother at this time" - it truly was her choice! And then she stood by her choice, and dropped the child at the firehouse, which was the most responsible thing she could have done under the circumstances. I thought it was a great storyline, and affirms that woman can choose motherhood, abortion, or releasing the child to adoption, and when nobody backed her, she did what she could. Rachel Boyd did interviews in which she said she had spent a lot of time researching what it would be like to give birth alone, and how to get into character for those birth scenes. She did okay with that, but was flat with everything else. I have no idea what she submitted for her audition tape but I wonder if they gave her an birthing script to practice for her audition? Otherwise I don't know why they cast her. And of course there's the 10-month tape-to-air gap that makes adjustments difficult. But contracts are for the benefit of the show. not the actor. A one-year-contract is actually four 13-week contracts, and a show can release you at the end of any 13-week period. So why did they keep her? Agree with both of you on that. Yeah it seems they suddenly decided to switch who she was. At first she was the soap teen trying to disrupt her love interest's current relationship, by messing with Holly. Seems like they decided to make her "Jan Spears", and that didn't work -- I think it didn't work due to both writing and acting. The initial concept may have been good in theory but the writing was all over the place. And yeah I completely agree that making Sophia a full-on psycho didn't work at all! That was just awful. It especially upset me that the writers decided to give Sophia her no redeeming qualities. I was cheering her on when she fought to give up her child and was strong in her decision -- she was still a misguided teen, although of legal age, but she did the best she could. A good story. It feels (to me) that the show abruptly decided to have a psycho character. They should have sent Sophia out of town, and then created a completely new character as the psychotic person. Jan Spears was wild and amoral but Heather Lindell had layers in her characterization of Jan Spears.- Y&R: May 2026 Spoilers

I have experienced this for the past month or longer. What I figured out was that the forum software is automatically programmed to italicize anything between two asterisks, and simultaneously removing the asterisk punctuation marks. Even if the two asterisks are in separate sentences or paragraphs, it automatically assumes you are trying to italicize things. @Errol is there any way to make it stop doing that? As members posting episode counts usually use an asterisk at the beginning of any line that has the same rank as the actor in the above-line. The only way I get around this currently, is do this (must be done in this order) first post the word/phrases I want to emphasize-but-not-italicize. Then I put three spaces before and after the word. Then I tack on "space, asterisk" AFTER the word/phrase I want to emphasize-but-not-italicize. Then (and only then) I put "asterisk, space" BEFORE the word/phrase I want to emphasize-but-not-italicize. Gotta do the AFTER, and then the BEFORE. So the result is me emphasizing-but-not-italicizing the phrase "testing123" as follows: * testing123 * HOWEVER, that STILL doesn't work if I have another asterisk elsewhere (anywhere) within my same post. Because then it italicizes the whole segment of my post between asterisks.- All My Children Tribute Thread
