Sixteen years of an authoritarian regime overthrown by a landslide peaceful election. Rejoining the world community. Anthems of ethnic minorities played! I'm glad they play "Lift Every Voice and Sing" at football games in the USA. Waiting to hear it played in Congress.

When Hungary's new prime minister, Péter Magyar, was sworn in, they played the Hungarian national anthem in Parliament. And also the European Anthem (Beethoven's Ode to Joy). In addition to the EU anthem, Magyar requested that anthems of ethnic minorities be played. They played the anthem of the Székely people in Hungary, who primarily live in Romania. What's even more amazing is the honoring of the Roman community https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_the_Romani_people In Parliament today, they played the unofficial anthem of Hungary's Roma community. The playing of this last anthem in particular is an unprecedented gesture of respect toward the community of roughly 700,000 Roma in Hungary.

^ JD Vance went to Hungary to try to stop Magyar from being elected. FAIL. The people of Hungary elected Magyar via a landslide. Magyar is center-right but so much better than the prior authoritarian.

Hungary's new prime minister, Péter Magyar, has been sworn in. "I will not rule over Hungary - I will serve my country," Magyar said after he took the oath of office in parliament. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce3pqvvzgnko Greeting the people outside, he said: “Today, every freedom-loving person in the world wants to be a little Hungarian,” he said. “You have taught the country and the world that it is the most ordinary, flesh-and-blood people that can defeat the most vicious tyranny,” Magyar added to roaring applause. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/may/09/hungary-prime-minister-peter-magyar-sworn-in-viktor-oban

Legally that's called rape by fraud or rape by impersonation. Lulu's already been violated with stolen eggs/embryos, I don't need her to be violated again.

Y&R/DAYS: Temporary recast of veteran character
Glad this is temporary. "Due to a scheduling conflict, Walton — who lives in Oregon — was unable to travel to Los Angeles for an upcoming story arc, prompting the soap to call on Koslow." Wishing Jess Walton the best and hope to see her return soon.

The dismantling of the Voting Rights Act is intended to be terrifying -- they want to terrify everyone. How to stay calm while maintaining real anger, and still move forward? May 5, 2026: Sally Field is the guest on the View, again talking with Whoopi Goldberg about Soapdish. (youtube below). At the beginning of the youtube, there's a clip from the Soapdish film. At 2:36 of the youtube, Sally tells how the movie came about. She said that during the filming of Steel Magnolias in Natchitoches, Louisiana, she would watch soaps, such as General Hospital, Young and the Restless, "or whatever" on TV during her lunch breaks. Bobby Harling wrote the play and screenplay for Steel Magnolias, and he was on set during filming. He would laughingly ask Sally what happened today, and she'd tell him, "Well you wouldn't believe what happened". And he told her he was going to write something about that, and he did - and it was Soapdish. (Note, I'm summarizing, just watch and hear it in Sally's own words.). Another panelist from the View asked Whoopi and Sally questions about a 1991 Entertainment Weekly article about Soapdish, which claimed Sally thought it would be fun to play "a b!tch with a heart of gold" (This is quoting the words in the EW article), but Sally says she wouldn't have said that.- Y&R: May 2026 Discussion Thread
LOL, yeah. But Roger Howarth seems to stan Griffith. He recently said about Griffith (link) ". . .he has a really good understanding of the darker parts of humanity and how they intermesh with the classic soap villains. But he never loses sight of what motivates people and the human side to all humans."- Forced Logout of All Users

Steven Colbert interviews President Obama at the "Obama Presidential Center" (library, museum, park, etc) in Chicago. This was pre-filmed at the Obama Center, then that recording was played to the studio audience at Colbert's show, broadcast 5/5/2026, don't know the tape date. Obama answers some deep questions about the future of politics. (and also responds to some silly questions and gags from Colbert). Obama says the Center is not about him, it's about all of us -- and especially about the youth and future generations -- to inspire future leaders to make positive change. Obama says he is not that cool and that his staff and volunteers are cooler than he is. The center opens June 19, 2026 (Juneteenth). It's the entire May 5, 2025 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Except for the 10-minute opening monologue about current events that was done at Colbert's regular studio, the entire episode is at Obama's Center. You can watch the whole thing on cbs.com or paramountplus Here are all the pieces of the episode (excluding the monologue)- The Politics Thread
