Paramount/Skydance/CBS merged 2025; might acquire Warner/Discovery/HBO/CNN in 2026
I subscribed to the original "CBS All Access" years ago, which later changed its name to "ParamountPlus" -- just to watch Star Trek. I still have it for Star Trek and BTG. Some of the more recent Star Trek series are only streaming so that's more vital for me. The irony is that Star Trek is the ultimate DEI franchise, the literal motto (from Vulcan) is "infinite diversity in infinite combinations". When I'm upset about the news, in the middle of the night, I can log into ParamountPlus and watch an old Star Trek rerun from any of their series (almost all of the past 60 years are online there). Something to restore my faith in sentient life.

I think it's everything .. CBS kissing up to Tr*mp and paying him a bribe for the Skydance merger, and then firing Stephen Colbert, and not airing the 60 Minutes report, etc -- all of it. A lot of people kept Paramount subscriptions until Colbert's final episode on May 21, 2026. Some are more vocal now that Colbert is done, perhaps unaware of the rest of it?

Paramount/Skydance/CBS merged 2025; might acquire Warner/Discovery/HBO/CNN in 2026
Meanwhile, Bari Weiss (head of CBS News) has just "restructured" 60 minutes. She fired Sharyn Alfonsi, the correspondent who had the story that CBS killed on the concentration camp ( "detention center" ). Weiss also fired more staff from 60 Minutes, including correspondent Cecilia Vega, and EP Tanya Simon. (Tanya Simon is daughter of former correspondent Bob Simon). CBS/Paramount updates regarding "60 Minutes". Anderson Cooper leaves 60 minutes (remaining with CNN). This is his lovely sign-off. . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD0hGj-ioFU

Problem viewing posted Youtube videos
The problem seems to be only with embedded youtubes. Embedded Vimeo videos display without problems. Example of vimeo on Madonna thread that displays fine (link to post) Edit to add: I mentioned above all of the Windows browsers in which I cannot see youtubes, plus my phone version. On ALL of those browsers plus my phone, I * can * see Vimeo.

article with more images of the protests outside Delaney Hall "detention center" (concentration camp) in Newark NJ https://www.amny.com/news/delaney-hall-ice-agents-beat-protesters-05282026/ "Things almost turned deadly when one protester threw an object at an ICE agent, sending the enraged agent chasing after those in front of him. The agent tossed one man into the wheel of a moving truck — the gigantic wheel passing over his leg. In another instance, a different ICE agent beat a man with a baton between the wheels of the gigantic truck, narrowly missing him being crushed completely."

We're not providing luxury housing. What we're doing is providing a sanitary place for them to be detained. We're detaining murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug dealers. We're meeting the calorie standard." some reply comments to the above: https://bsky.app/profile/marisakabas.bsky.social/post/3mmwagwwc7k27 Marisa Kabas @marisakabas.bsky.social This “calorie standard” language is sinister as f**ck. BTG: May 2026 Discussion Thread
Errol just announced that the blog section is being removed on June 1st. same. I have enjoyed reading these ideas. Also in the past 16 months of BTG episode discussions (and in years of episode discussion threads for other soaps), many posters have occasionally offered storyline ideas and I found them interesting. I don't always like everyone's ideas but I like that members have ideas!

Sisters Discussion Thread
Recent discussion (May 2026) on GH thread about how surrogacy storylines don't work in soaps. I instantly thought of Sisters where the surrogacy storyline was well-written. Pregnant Georgie, as the gestational surrogate for Frankie, was in an auto accident but she was okay and Frankie's baby survived. The "drama" years later was written in that... when there was a fight amongst legal parents Frankie and Mitch, the judge ordered that the gestational surrogate Georgie have temporary custody until the issue was resolved with the parent -- and then Georgie began to become concerned and reluctant to let go, but she did let go.

So then the show thought they were clever to make Trey the bio/foster/adopted offspring of several families: bio from Choi and Greene fostered by Hernandez (legally fostered by Rafe, practically fostered by Javi) adopted by Price and DiMera/Brady The idea was good theoretically; but, from the scenes I actually watched, the writing has been poor and some of the acting was bad.

Thank you!

DAYS: May 2026 Discussion Thread
Wait, are you saying that Aaron is really Trey's bio-dad? We had suspected it but was it ever proven? I thought the show had maintained it was Tate. I feel stupid asking this, but to my defense the show has seemed stupid so I tuned out for a lot and missed some key recaps.

GH: May 2026 Discussion Thread
Thanks for the correction. I suspected I had the facts confused, and I did! I think I simply loathed Anna's enemies so much that I thought of her as someone from longer ago than she was. Faison was so gross and Obrecht's obsession with him was gross. Yeah that was awful.
-
GH: May 2026 Discussion Thread
(This is from my foggy memory, so I might have parts of this wrong)... What I remember is Obrecht started out as a villain rival to Anna Devane. But Anna didn't see her as a rival. Anna seemed (to me) to be disinterested. What I remember watching was Faison obsessed with Anna . . . and Obrecht obsessed with Faison. And Obrecht wanting to destroy Anna, whom Obrecht regarded as an obstacle to getting Faison -- that's how I perceived it decades ago, or something like that? Obrecht was a full-out villain in those days. Pretty sure she tried to kill Anna, but probably via something convoluted.
-
GH: May 2026 Discussion Thread
Her character was originally called "Obrecht" by other characters. I still can't get used to calling her Leisl. I guess it's like Sidwell. I don't think of him as "Jenz".

When Jimmy Carter died, they talked about how his foundation had completely eradicated a disease-carrying worm. That's the right use of time and money! https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2023/02/23/1158358366/jimmy-carter-took-on-the-awful-guinea-worm-when-no-one-else-would-and-he-triumph But now we have the horrible occupant of the White House spending billions on wars, grift, and personal golden monuments. How many diseases could the USA have cured/prevented with those funds?

The Politics Thread
The hundreds of thousands of deaths due to the defunding of US-AID - no medical assistance/supplies/science for countries in need, no medicines, no vaccines, no doctors, nothing. No funding. Many deaths. We don't hear about this because it's just another horror in the news drowned out by other horrors in the news. And now the latest is a new Ebola outbreak in Africa that's spreading rapidly and they have no help. Meanwhile, the ICE raids and deportations continue in the USA -- and we've deported people to African countries being impacted by Ebola.
