Yeah, I wasn't sure, that's why I specifically said ATWT, not P&G in that initial post because I haven't seen many of the GL ones.

He had 1 actress on one of the GL reunions, I think that was it though, over how many months? That is why I say that he is simply out of his depth with some actors. It's his show and he's free to do as he chooses but I don't expect much from him and kind of side-eye him at the same time.

They need to leave Guyana alone though, I have friends from there.

I'd love to see Tamara Tunie on a reunion livestream but I seriously doubt Alan is up for that level of truth telling or that tea. Don't confuse character with actress, Tamara is not Jessica! Soap fans sometimes like to put words in people's mouths. I'd actually like to hear from Meg Ryan. She might actually have valid reasons for keeping a distance. Not everyone had the same experience. Alan would be out if his depth with most of the people mentioned. Why can't these guys produce the show and get a knowledgeable host like Roger Newcomb? Alan has had 0 Black actors from ATWT on his live streams and I have questions. Also, Meg Ryan directs and produces a fair amount of television these days so her perspective on the medium may have changed.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Were any mother figures left on GL by '95? Nessa was there but the show seemed more interested in promoting her as a "cougar". Lillian? Uh, no. I can't think of anyone at this point. Bringing back Susan would have been a good time to do so with that vacuum. All Michelle had was an odd assortment of would be surrogate mother types on the canvas anyway.

A few years ago, I referred to Trump as someone with Jim Jones proclivities but I sensed that people thought I was being tongue in cheek then. I was not. Trump has many disturbing similarities with Jones, down to the slavish cult members who view him as their sole means of salvation. With Mike Pompeo running off to Guyana to scout prospects (presumably oil), I am truly unnerved.

Y&R to air classic episodes
The earliest iteration of Grace was as a loyal friend to Sharon but someone who wanted more from life than what her very very hot friend Tony could provide in a relationship and life. When the role was recast with Gareis, Grace became an all-out grasper, an opportunist, as @Dion pointed out. An obsession, of sorts, began over Nick but I don't think you could label Grace as crazy, as she never tried to kill or physically harm anyone as Phyllis has done. One positive attribute that Grace still had was her capacity to care deeply about someone else, that someone being Cassie. I don't see Phyllis ever selflessly loving someone who she wasn't related to by blood, especially if that someone is a child birthed by Sharon that didn't carry Nick's DNA.

Clearly, Alan's definition of big announcement and my definition of big announcement are not the same. No offense.

I won't choose but I will say that Rhineheart fit seamlessly into the role. She was great!

When Tamara got the contract gig at Law & Order, why didn't the show ask Joanna Rhineheart to reprise the role of Jessica Griffin? I guess ATWT had no interest in the character.

I would never want anyone to edit it out but that scene of Lyla and Casey happily looking out at the New York City skyline with the Twin Towers in the distance really took my breath away, by the next scene between Hank, Bob and Kim, I felt oddly emotional, although I really liked that scene. In today's soaps Bob and Kim wouldn't even know who Hank was and vice-versa. The scene between Barbara and Hal was poignant too.

Unpopular opinion but I liked Pam. I think Robin Morse was earnest in her portrayal. I think the character suffered from being trapped between Lily and Meg. Maybe due to the writer's strike, I think the character wasn't fully formed enough to be legitimate rival to Lily and she sort of got trapped into the role of loyal friend to Meg, which enriched Meg's character but did virtually nothing for Pam.

I remember thinking that the Kirk and Ellie wedding was so tacky. I tried to watch it a few years ago and could not get through it. It is that bad to me. For whatever reason, I am prone to believe that someone thought that Kirk and Ellie would be some kind of modern, stylish couple yet until the bitter end it seemed like a fairly superficial romance. I chalk it up to the '90s. Tbh, Kirk and Ellie sounds like a suggestion from some executive at P&G to 'sex things up a bit'.

The one thing that the character had going for her was Renee Props, who was cute and a walking time capsule for the '90s. The only interest I had in Ellie was during the Brock Lombard story. I have read on this board that IRL the actors who portrayed Brock and Emily didn't get along, but had Brock survived and remained on the canvas, I think there was good enough chemistry for a reunion between Brock and Ellie to make sense.

Thanks @DRW50 although the period of the strike and the next few months that followed were hit and miss for me, (Ellie's insatiable thirst for Iva's Oakdale exes bothered me--what saved it was the fact that Sierra swooped in and gathered Craig, lol) yet even the strike and post-strike stories are far superior to anything offered by the remaining soaps.

This is sort of connected to the articles that @Faulkner posted in the RIP thread but S. Korea has a history of vicious online harassment. In this article, one person says he now understands why some K-Pop stars resort to suicide.

How do you solve a problem like Kagame? During his presidency, Rwanda has made incredible strides in healthcare, education and technology. Its handling of the coronavirus has put richer countries to shame, but even citizens have complained of draconian measures being taken and Kagame has been in office for 20 years! The twists and turns of this saga with Rusesbagina (who unfortunately gave Kagame a motive by being aligned with a group that has an armed wing) seems like an autocrat who is determined to stamp out any hint of dissent by completely quashing it, so that he can maintain power. I will never forget when President Obama spoke at a university in Addis Ababa and he questioned why anybody would want to stay in office for 20,30 years? He made the very good and memorable point that if you have been in leadership of a country and believe that only you can be in charge or that country's government/system will collapse, you haven't been effective as a leader. A good leader paves the way for new, fresh ideas and nurtures new leaders who can help the country's people advance even further. There was a lot of hearty applause but I sensed a lot nervous shifting in seats.

Players letting out primal screams in a nearly empty stadium seems like a weird flex but in nine (is it nine?) previous matches Diego hadn't beaten Nadal so perhaps Diego was just really feeling the moment. It's likely he didn't even care about what was going on with Nadal on the other side of the net.

Andy Kavovit's anecdote about P&G's "thanks" to him after he won the Daytime Emmy was so telling in how the corporation (dis)regarded its daytime dramas.

Something else to provide a moment of respite. Although I didn't watch the town hall, I read a lot about this particular exchange and was curious about the woman who asked the question. A follow-up:
