  1. Sometimes I wonder if casting KMH was an attempt to make Emily more identifiable as a Stewart by making her blonde but I agree that the two representations don't resemble each other at all. Smith's Emily was clearly raised by Susan but you still had Ellen and Betsy on the canvas, so there were reminders of Emily's link to the Stewarts.
  2. Okay. Perhaps the Japanese people I've known, I've met mainly through school or career but those that I've interacted with, I have found to be quite well-spoken, if reserved, at times. When Naomi came on the scene she was very young and probably not all that sure of herself. I just regard her as a young woman finding herself and identity is inextricably linked to that process of growth. I guess I just tend to be sensitive to the declarations of surprise that someone being well-spoken as it often feels like an 'othering' of a person. I know you don't mean it that way. I've been on the receiving end of this compliment, only it did not feel like one. In the West Indies it's common to encounter people who are both black and Asian, I have a few cousins and Aunts who are, the cross-currents of culture seems more common to me. The joys of being from an immigrant background, I guess.
  3. It's being Japanese. Sometimes I wonder whether people have any Japanese friends or even friendly acquaintances that they interact with often. I have and it's not so unusual, it's a common cultural attribute. Honestly, I'm tired already. After he barely missed the head of one linesman years ago, he claimed that he would reflect..blah blah blah. After the Adria Tour debacle...same basic statement and yet...nothing changes. I heard Mcenroe say that he made a rookie mistake. But Djokovic is no rookie. I am loathe to draw Kyrgios into the debacle as I think that these comparisons make little sense but we all know that Nick has no earthly desire to be regarded as any type of elder statesman, Novak clearly does and this is certainly a strange way to go about it.
  4. There is no such language as Haitian. There's Kreyol and there's French. The commentary has been abysmal in the handful of matches that I have seen. With the lack of crowds, I'd hoped that at least there would be less chatter and I'd get to hear the sounds of on court play but the incessant chatter made viewing all but completely unbearable. Last night's 2nd women's match was one of the few exceptions.
  5. 😂 Sometimes a picture truly speaks a thousand words! This may not answer your question but when I watched one of the reunion live streams, Hillary Bailey Smith spoke of the reason for her character's miscarriage storyline as being due to the difficulties of working with children in a continuing daytime drama. HBS' character Margo was finally allowed to carry a child to term but the actress used her own child on the soap.
  6. Ugh, I have an appointment so I won't be able to watch live but I will definitely watch when I return.
  7. Ming-Na Wen discussed her cameo in the live-action version of Mulan.
  8. The word "sterile" is trending because people are lambasting Melania's makeover of the White House gardens. Part of my thinks that her taste is about as bad and awful as her husband's but the other part of me also thinks that she may be purposefully riling up people to get angry, hoping her sojourn in the White House will come to an end soon.
  9. I know I don't venture into this thread much but I do appreciate the efforts that @Brolden has been making to try to document and preserve aspects of this show's history. It's a shame that there are certain forces making those efforts more difficult. If only, it were P&G creating a channel for their soaps but we know they do not care and it is likely other individuals who want to be one of the few channel(s) on YouTube, not wanting to make space for another channel because that new channel has the audacity to have a few episodes that may have already been posted previously on YouTube.
  10. Somewhat surprised that live animals are transported via USPS in the year 2020 but here is another example of members of Trump's "base" that are shocked and/or disheartened to discover that his terrible policies don't only affected libs, minorities and Democrats. Here is a link to the same article, if you don't want to go through the usual workarounds to bypass any paywalls. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/the-chick-s-in-the-mail-rural-america-faces-new-worries-with-postal-crisis/ar-BB18dGV1
  11. Disturbing. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/22/us/school-reopenings-coronavirus-reporting.html
  12. Was watching an episode from '85 and the scenes between Jay and Spree made me realize that Spree sort of reminds me of Didi Conn--the short dark hair, there's even something about the timbre of the voice that is reminiscent of Conn, though their voices don't sound alike.
  13. There once was a time that the possible poisoning of Russia's biggest opposition figure (and his subsequent flight to another country for treatment) would have been big news but not in 2020. I'm a tea drinker but if I ever find myself anywhere near Russia, tea wouldn't be going anywhere near my lips.
  14. 6 minutes? I thought it was 90 seconds. Isn't that what some people were squawking about?
  15. Me, at that Phillip Michael Thomas throwback:
  16. Thanks for posting these speeches in their entirely, @janea4old. Well, well, well, ahead of 'Indictment Fridays', Bannon gets taken into custody for fundraising fraud by, wait for it...U.S. Postal Service agents.
  17. Both Alfre Woodard and Taraji P. Henson did narration. I noticed their voices right away. Last night was a night of powerful speeches and testimony. I appreciate how Kamala Harris kept including Black, Latino, Asian and Indigenous communities, Indigenous tends to get left out of the discussion and sometimes Asian communities as well.
  18. THIS! Million times THIS!!
  19. I do like the aspect of Lucinda and John reconciling but Lucinda giving over the reins to Worldwide to Lily just doesn't quite ring true to the character. I agree with @Mitchthough that realistically, there would be a back and forth on who is running the company. I could see Lucinda, not meaning to undermine Lily but doing it nonetheless, until a struggle ensues over the direction of the company. Honestly, the show should've kept Lucinda's eldest grandchild alive so that he could be groomed to take over (even as Lily runs the company), that would've caused some friction, but alas.
