I would never want anyone to edit it out but that scene of Lyla and Casey happily looking out at the New York City skyline with the Twin Towers in the distance really took my breath away, by the next scene between Hank, Bob and Kim, I felt oddly emotional, although I really liked that scene. In today's soaps Bob and Kim wouldn't even know who Hank was and vice-versa. The scene between Barbara and Hal was poignant too.

Unpopular opinion but I liked Pam. I think Robin Morse was earnest in her portrayal. I think the character suffered from being trapped between Lily and Meg. Maybe due to the writer's strike, I think the character wasn't fully formed enough to be legitimate rival to Lily and she sort of got trapped into the role of loyal friend to Meg, which enriched Meg's character but did virtually nothing for Pam.

I remember thinking that the Kirk and Ellie wedding was so tacky. I tried to watch it a few years ago and could not get through it. It is that bad to me. For whatever reason, I am prone to believe that someone thought that Kirk and Ellie would be some kind of modern, stylish couple yet until the bitter end it seemed like a fairly superficial romance. I chalk it up to the '90s. Tbh, Kirk and Ellie sounds like a suggestion from some executive at P&G to 'sex things up a bit'.

Haven't had a chance to listen but I heard that this podcast is very revealing.

The one thing that the character had going for her was Renee Props, who was cute and a walking time capsule for the '90s. The only interest I had in Ellie was during the Brock Lombard story. I have read on this board that IRL the actors who portrayed Brock and Emily didn't get along, but had Brock survived and remained on the canvas, I think there was good enough chemistry for a reunion between Brock and Ellie to make sense.

Thanks @DRW50 although the period of the strike and the next few months that followed were hit and miss for me, (Ellie's insatiable thirst for Iva's Oakdale exes bothered me--what saved it was the fact that Sierra swooped in and gathered Craig, lol) yet even the strike and post-strike stories are far superior to anything offered by the remaining soaps.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
This is sort of connected to the articles that @Faulkner posted in the RIP thread but S. Korea has a history of vicious online harassment. In this article, one person says he now understands why some K-Pop stars resort to suicide.

How do you solve a problem like Kagame? During his presidency, Rwanda has made incredible strides in healthcare, education and technology. Its handling of the coronavirus has put richer countries to shame, but even citizens have complained of draconian measures being taken and Kagame has been in office for 20 years! The twists and turns of this saga with Rusesbagina (who unfortunately gave Kagame a motive by being aligned with a group that has an armed wing) seems like an autocrat who is determined to stamp out any hint of dissent by completely quashing it, so that he can maintain power. I will never forget when President Obama spoke at a university in Addis Ababa and he questioned why anybody would want to stay in office for 20,30 years? He made the very good and memorable point that if you have been in leadership of a country and believe that only you can be in charge or that country's government/system will collapse, you haven't been effective as a leader. A good leader paves the way for new, fresh ideas and nurtures new leaders who can help the country's people advance even further. There was a lot of hearty applause but I sensed a lot nervous shifting in seats.

Players letting out primal screams in a nearly empty stadium seems like a weird flex but in nine (is it nine?) previous matches Diego hadn't beaten Nadal so perhaps Diego was just really feeling the moment. It's likely he didn't even care about what was going on with Nadal on the other side of the net.

Something else to provide a moment of respite. Although I didn't watch the town hall, I read a lot about this particular exchange and was curious about the woman who asked the question. A follow-up:

What I've noticed from these reunions is that Marland seemed to have wanted actors to maintain a link with the show, even if only for brief story arcs. I really enjoyed the flow of conversation, and then, well... Alan should try to make it clear that drop-in appearances should be limited to five minutes, not the rest of the show, lol. When Melanie said she was the worst actor in the beginning, I was like, "Gurl, you weren't even the worst actress in that role!" 😄😭😂.

Well sh*t, now I don't feel as bad as I did when I read about Vee's loss- at least her 40 year old behind kept Vika out there for 2 hours and, from the look of the score, kept the match competitive. Sofia, the new Australian Open champ got her as$ double bagelled! Haven't the lights gone out at the Italian Open before? I seem to remember this happening years ago. They just got lights for night-time play, like, a decade ago.

Maybe you can ask Alan to open up comments early for those of us who want to pose a question, make a comment in advance because we can't make it to the livestream on time. I'm not on Facebook. Maybe I could even type it here tomorrow before I leave and someone could copy and paste it but you know I can go on and on and I don't want to give anyone extra work to do, especially since most people will have questions of their own. If Alan could open up the comments section, even an hour before the livestream, that would be ideal. My appointment is exactly at 2p.m. and I doubt I'll be out of there before and home before 3.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Some really good observations, the one about the deep love that Sharon and Nick had for Cassie offers some food for thought. When I think about it, I think it might have been because Cassie was the child that they had to fight for after choosing to be her parents. Noah was kind of a surprise that almost everyone blamed Sharon for- presumably to trap Nick into committing to fatherhood and family prematurely (how ironic, considering the role that Nick would devote himself the most to is that of a father). Even Faith, who was yanked away from Sharon at birth, courtesy of Adam, referred to herself as a "love-child", she was unplanned. Sharon and Nick very much decided to fight for the chance to be Cassie's parents. Judging from the livestream that all three actors did awhile back when they discussed those hospital scenes, J.M. knows that this was his best work. And same about "Phick" on All Of It!
